Blunt Lands A Good Get
ShareRep. Tom Cole (OK) just announced that he will support Blunt. Cole is much more than just another Sophomore Member.
He served as chair of the OK GOP from '85 - '89 before becoming the exec dir of the NRCC in '91, and later the CoS of the RNC in '00. He now has his eyes set on taking over as Chair of the NRCC after the '06 cycle and has raised a lot of $$$ for his colleagues to aid his bid.
Bottom line: He is a pol who knows his way around Rayburn, Longworth and Cannon.
Oh, and incidentally, his seat was formerly held by J.C. Watts -- the same J.C. Watts who bested Boehner for Conf Chair in '98.

"As a member of the whip team, I have been working with Roy Blunt over the past three years and have been very impressed with his leadership style and his ability to get things done. Tough vote after tough vote, he has managed to pull our Conference together to pass very important legislation--the Budget Deficit Reduction Act, CAFTA, an energy bill, and the list goes on and on. Roy Blunt has shown a tremendous ability to pull together all geographic regions and diverse policy views of our Conference to enact meaningful legislation on the issues that count. I believe he will be a great leader for our Conference as we head into another important legislative year.
