Open Thread: Who Should Replace DeLay?

On Call readers: here's a thread for you to debate which GOPer should replace DeLay.

Names in the mix: Blunt, Boehner, Shadegg, Rogers, Cantor, Wamp, Pence.

Any others?

I think that Rep. Tom Reynolds, current Chairman of the NRCC would be the best guy for the job. Nobody has more political smarts than Reynolds. He's a rock-solid conservative and a great political strategist. He also has close ties to his friend and predecessor, Bill Paxon -- the man who played a key role in the election of every member of the Republican class of 1994 and 1996. That's a big part of the Conference and if Reynolds wants it, I think he might be able to get it done. The only knock on Reynolds right now is the potential concern that the NRCC needs stability through this November.

Hmm.

Who should replace Delay? I vote for Delay.

Other than a scandal manufactured by a partisan Texas prosecutor there is nothing as yet to show that Delay has done anything that at least 50% of Congress hasn't done themselves. Frankly Republicans are extremely quick to throw valuable members of the party under the bus for the most ludicrous reasons, this is why the Democrats do their utmost to fabricate scandals.

Because they know, absolutely know, that Republicans will complete the task of eliminating effective Republicans for them without any additional effort. And let me point out right now that while Republicans were yelling for Lott to be dumped Democrat Senator Robert Byrd, a former Kleagle of the KKK, was sitting back and similing his ass off.

And then, once the new "leaders" are put into place, we're left wondering what kind of idiot just got elected to the Republican leadership. Anybody remember Trent Lott? An off-hand remark at a man's 100th birthday party and completely unrelated to anything whatsoever is then twisted out of context. And Republicans jumped up in droves to help the Democrats out. And what happened then? We got *Frist*!!

Frist! A completely useless bag of fluff who couldn't accomplish a damn thing.

You throw Delay under the bus, then you accept responsibility for his replacement. We all know Delay can get the job done. I have no such confidence in whomever is next because the House Republicans of 2005 were utter shit.

Until Republicans learn how politics work they'll always be convenient lackeys of the Democratic Party.

John Linder. Maybe then we could actually get rid of the IRS.

Congressman Pence who is not tied to Abramoff and has consistently supported smaller government rather than corrupt pork-barreling.

Tom Tancredo. The GOP needs a kick in the pants. If not Tancredo, then John Linder.

Jeff Flake.

Delay should replace Delay. A man falsely accused could accurately be said to be weakened enough to step down, but when he is vindicated, he should be given back his position.

With the underwhelming backbones of most congressional GOP'ers, Delay should select whomever replaces him to avoid a Frist-like mediocrity and to give the position the force and direction it needs.

Promote Rep. Kay Granger from Majority Whip - she's a fellow Texan, has shown she can handle leadership responibilites, and having a woman in the post will be politically helpful nationwide as we GOP's go into the 2006 elections.

Pence...hands down.

A good dose of sunny optimism combined with a realistic vision for small government conservatism is the perfect ailment for the GOP scandal syndrome of late.

how about any Democrat... oh thats whats gonna happen in November....daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamnnnnnn !

I'd go for Cantor, if for no other reason that as the only Jewish GOP member of the House, if he replaced DeLay, he'd make the heads of all those Holocaust-denying Islamonazis in the Mideast explode.

Who should replace DeLay? The strongest.

*I'd* like to recall Armey!

Ron Paul or Marsha Blackburn

I vote for Jeff Flake. He's a hardcore, rock-solid fiscal conservative, young and incredibly smart (he was voted second-most libertarian House member after the hard-core Ron Paul).

Boehner. He has a long history of saying no to pork and has some history being a reformer. Although he is not overwelmed with charisma, he has as much as anyone else in the house currently and is one of the few congressmen that you can use the word "honest" to describe him and keep a straight face while doing so.

David Dreier -- he brings the calm, effective leadership to the role that the Party needs. Here's a guy who's experienced, great under pressure, good on TV, a good political strategist, and he can raise money. Finally, for a change, he's a nice guy who comes across as calm, rational, and reasonable in a debate or in person.

I heard Boehner today on Fox News. He said he considered an old saying (you could catch more bees with honey than you could with vinegar) to be a good motto in carrying out the remainder of Tom's service. I'd like to remind him that the President tried that early in his first term. It didn't work then and it certainly won't work now.
Marianne Wooten

Mike Pence. Republicans have lost their way as advocates of small-government conservatism. It might be nice to have a true two-party system again. Someone like Pence, focusing more on philosophy than fund-raising, might get us there.

David Dreier. So when the liberals/MSM tar him, we can accuse them of gay-bashing.

Otherwise, Pence or Flake. They're small-gov't reformers who are good on TV.

I have recently lost a good amount of weight using acai berry and colon cleanse pills and have created a blog documenting my use of it.
However, I would also like to try out the Wu-Yi weight loss teas and document my progress with that as well.
The problem is i have heard some bad things about these teas. Has anyone tried them? Did you suffer from any of the side effects?

female-orgasm-secrets-and-pleasure My penis isn’t the largest in the locker room. The
women out there don’t mistake me for Hollywood’s latest hot
celebrity. I’m not rich, or famous, I’m not a “playboy”,
and I’m not exactly what you’d call a genius, though I
wasn’t born yesterday either.
