Its almost not "news" when the latest GOP standard bearer is brought down by criminal behavior. Allen is probably truthful in "wanting to "spend time with his family", however that didn't send him packing. Like Harriet Miers after her reality check, Allen is just looking for cover. Maybe like George Tenet, Allen will get the President's Medal of Freedon, which would keep him wrapped alternately in the flag and God until these larcenies are "handled". As for whether he might be 'queer', i sure hope not.

Allen was busted at the store Jan 2nd, the White House was called the same day, Harriet Miers (George's lawyer) talked to Allen the next day, and still Bush states on March 10th he "just heard of this yesterday". Please advise if Claude Allen did some illegal transactions with Target or elsewhere. I heard this on the radio today, 3/14/06. I remember seeing Claude Allen on a C-Span forum that dealt with caring for elderly parents. This was when he was with HHS. I thought at the time, "How surprising and refreshing that Bush would have such a high-level gay appointee"...come to find out he is a gay hater, married with children....hmmmmm...I imagine that his shoplifting is not unrelated to his attempt to live as a straight man in a gay man's body.

As I see it, Jesse Helms hired Claude Allen after I asked for Helms' assistance to redress a First Amendment violation in Raleigh, NC. Helms was heard on a local TV or Radio show--I forget which--saying how he had no qualms with Blacks.
