I love Cynthia McKinny.Wonder if it was an accident.

McKinney never wears a "member" pin. The officers of the Capitol Police live in fear of her...she wants them to challenge her, so that she can file charges against them. Many a time I would walk past a police post on Capitol Hill and see a sign with her picture on it WARNING officers to remember her face and beware of her.

Rep. McKinney was not wearing her pin and failed to identify herself when asked to.. and although members of congress are not required to pass through security the must identify themselves when asked..She was never grabbed she was touched on the elbow after ignoring the officers calls in order to get her attention..

I don't care who her father was, she needs to be charged with assault, just like any regular citizen would be. No special treatment. Period.

Good for her. A chest punch is entirely appropriate for his apparent attack from behind. She simply let him know that his grabbing and touching were inappropriate, no matter who he was. He should have been more verbal if he didn't recognize her.

Didn't a gunman rush through a screening door in 1999 and kill 2 Police Officers. This lady takes "entitlement" to another level, she needs to be thrown out. If something happended in the Capitol, she would be the first to complain the Police didn't do their job.

So. What do you folks suggest? An officer does not recognize somebody who bypasses the normal security screening. He does not see a "pin" that would explain the failure to pass through normal security screening. He calls out, but he is ignored by the person who is bypassing normal security screening. If it was not Cynthia McKinney, but somebody seeking to do harm with a firearm, bomb, or some nerve agent, Cynthia McKinney along with possibly hundreds of others could be dead if the officer does not perform his duty by ascertaining the reason this person is bypassing normal security. Then you could mourn Cynthia McKinney's death, because an officer charged with protecting everyone in the building failed to perform that duty. The application of logic is absent from the posts of the people cheering for Ms. McKinney's rude treatment of an officer trying to do his duty. Put a lid on the emotion, and think about what you would do in a similar position if it was your job to maintain security in a building that would be an obvious terrorist target.

How does a capitol police officer not recognize one of the more infamous congresswomen? Me thinks he was some gop hardass giving her a hard time and she stepped up. He should be reprimanded if that is the case.

Capitol Police officers are very hardworking a knowledgeable people, who are responsible for recalling the faces of over 500 members of Congress. They are very well trained, and if he didn't recognize her, she should have simply noted that she was a Member and pointed out her pin, or said that she did not have it on. If she is to be a public official, she should act like one.

It is not the duty of the sworn security officer to "recognize" people so they can zip thru a security checkpoint. It is the duty of all to identify themselves, whether by name or by identification.

Why are members of congress allowed to bypass the security gates? They were put there for a purpose, everyone should have to pass through them. No one should be exempt! She needs to be dealt with accordingly!

I agree the officer should not have touched her. He should have used his Taser to get her attention.

If protocol is for her to wear a "pin" for identification then she should. By her not wearing it she is inviting trouble, she should think of why the security is there and who it is to protect. How much hell would she raise if a bad guy went past security and attempted to hurt her. While I agree she may be a VIP she should use her head for something other than a cell phone rest.

There are protocols to be followed to protect members of Congress as well as the public. They were put there for a reason....to know who is coming in / out.
