A New Explanation For "Macaca?"

What does Macaca really mean? Three Virginia Republicans confirmed to the Hotline that several Allen campaign aides and advisers are telling allies that the word was a made-up, off-the-cuff neologism that these aides occasionally used to refer to tracker S.R. Sidarth well before last Saturday's videotaped encounter.

According to two Republicans who heard the word used, "macaca" was a mash-up of "Mohawk," referring to Sidarth's distinctive hair, and "caca," Spanish slang for excrement, or "shit."

Said one Republican close to the campaign: "In other words, he was a shit-head, an annoyance." Allen, according to Republicans, heard members of his traveling entourage and Virginia Republicans use the phrase and picked it up.
It was the first word that came to his mind when he spied Sidarth at the weekend's event, according to Republicans who have been briefed on Allen's version of the event.

Opponents of Allen have said that Sidarth's hair was clearly styled as a mullet rather than as a Mohawk. Republicans are sending around a post by Chad Dotson, a Virginia prosecutor who blogs as "Commonwealth Conservative," which contains a photograph of Sidarth at an Allen event. Sidarth's hair appears to be shaved on the side and thick strands stretch over the top of his head from his neck to his temple. (Dotson is a Republican and unabashed Allen supporter.)

John Reid, Allen's Senate communications director, said in a statement: "I don't think George Allen would ever try to publicly embarrass or demean a young person even if that person was working on an opposing campaign. The Senator has apologized sincerely and repeatedly over the last two days to the young man and to the public in general. He has been speaking with members of Virginia's Indian Community to reiterate that apology and assure them he did not mean to be derogatory. At some point I don't know what else can be said. I am hopeful that everyone who has heard about this has also heard the Senator's apology."

Kristian Denny Todd, communications director for James Webb, said the new explanation rings hollow. "I don't know what's worse; calling this innocent 20-year-old a "shit head" or a racist slur that was debatable that it wasn't," she said. "This is a kid that had done George Allen no harm. The term was used to demean him. That's the bottom line." Todd said Webb "just wants to get beyond all this" and focus on issues.

"The Senator has apologized sincerely and repeatedly over the last two days to the young man and to the public in general."

Wrong. Allen has NOT picked up a phone and called to personally apologize to the young man, S.R. Sidarth.

You don't apologize to someone who have clearly offended through surrogates. You apologize directly.

And notice how the Allen campaign can't even get their story right about where "macaca" came from? I expect another "evolving" explanation to come by day's end. It's pitiful that a sitting U.S. Senator can't admit wrong and is grasping for straws to deflect blame from himself.

well, well, an interesting news piece. rest assured, senator Allen is real quick in uptake of new colorful words. And he's a sincere person too and clever enough to know that these kinds of stupid gaffes will return to haunt him in the not too distant near future (a future only one and a half year distant).

So... Allen's explanation is that in addressing an opponent who was the one non-white person in the room, Allen made up a word, on the spot, that just happened to be a racial slur?

Is there anyone outside of Allen's staunchest supporters who will buy this?

Forget the macaca thing for a second: how could anyone ever say something this stupid: "I don't think George Allen would ever try to publicly embarrass or demean a young person even if that person was working on an opposing campaign."

The one thing that is UNDENIABLE, is that George Allen tried to single out and embarrass that kid. not only do even Allens most ardent defenders acknowledge this, but this is the one thing Allen apologized for, and Reid even bizarrely acknowledges that right afterwards.

In addition, isn't it a little sad that it took nearly 5 days (since the Allen campaign was apparently scrambling to figure out how to deal with this almost immediately) to come up with the "ca-ca connection" as their latest version of the story?

"I wasn't calling him a monkey -- I was comparing him to shit"? After days to come up with an explanation, that's the best the Allen team has? That's supposed to be a defense?

Well voters, it's official! George Allen really *does* think his constituency is stupid enough to buy this story!

Yeah, Vinnie the Greek tried to explain himself too. The harder he tried the deeper the hole. Should just shelve the whole presidential ambitions thing at this point.

People are going out of their minds trying to take unreasonable offense at things which should slide off their backs. Political correctness and niceness are unreal, and harmful to all in the final analysis. If I were George Allen, to the complainers I would have said,"Too damned bad, if you don't like it don't listen or read about it."

i think macaca is female ape in portuguese

I don't know what you are talking about, but I live in Brazil and here Macaca is a female monkey.

BS.

1. Calling somebody "shithead" is not supposed to be demeaning?

2. That would then be "MOE-caca" not "MAH-caca."

3. You should publish a picture. His haircut looks pretty much like George Allen's.

4. By my count, this is at least the fourth distinct and incompatible explanation that the Allen campaign has offered. When you're getting everything thrown against the wall, backed up by anonymous sources trying to make it stick, that is a dead giveaway that you're probably listening to a lie.

5. Has anyone thought to ask George Allen if he still has a Confederate flag hanging in his living room?

I am a Republican in my views. But Allen should resign if not charged with racial incitement.

How is everyone missing the biggest part of this story?

GEORGE ALLEN SPEAKS FRENCH!!!

"Macaque" is a Belgian racial slur (in French), deriding North Africans. George Allen's mother is a French colonial from Tunisia. He obviously was pissed off at this guy and let his racism slip -- something we Republicans have been trained not to do -- over and over again -- in a public forum. He blew it twice actually, saying "Welcome to America," assuming this American was not American because of his skin color.

Come on, guys, it's rule No. 1 that we only use the code words when we talk in public about the "central issue." I'm pretty sure we can overcome this PR blunder with our guys in the editorial pages, radio and Fox. We need to seriously consider whether Allen should be allowed to be a presidential nominee if he can't keep his language in check.
Keep the faith. God will help us prevail.

rhesus monkey
n.
A brownish monkey (Macaca mulatta) of India, used extensively in biological and medical research.

macaca
n.
A derogatory French Tunisian term for a dark-skinned person.

Allen's mother is French Tunisian.

So, "welcome to America, shithead," is a defense? In what world?

I'm waiting for the punchline, the Allen campaign can't possibly be this dumb...

"No, no, you misunderstood us! We were really calling him SHITHEAD!"

And calling Sidarth a "Shithead" makes it even better?

Allen speaks French and is something of a Francophile. There's no way he doesn't know macaca is used in French as a racial slur against people of North African descent -- i.e., people whose skin is darker than his.

Allen may publicly, or even privately, deny that he is a racist, but when the subconscious slips through like that, it's usually much more telling of the persons core beliefs.

It's true 'caca' is 'shit' in Spanish, but it's used whenever one wants to refer to 'shit' in a very literal sense, a less sanitized version of 'poo'. You would never use it on a person as a replacement for 'shit' unless you wanted to really emphasize the scatological connotations. Are they sure they really want to spin that way?

What a pathetic excuse for a Senator. Virginia apparently likes this kind of thing...
There's nothing to apologize for -- the Senator clearly meant what he said.

"Macaca" is a version of the French "Macaque", commonly used by French speakers as a racial slur against the native populations of the Maghreb (Alegeria, Morocco, Tunisia) and Sub-Sahara Africa. It is an even more insulting slur than the n... word.

Allen's mother was a French-speaking Tunisian Jew. Allen speaks French.

Did the math yet? Allen deliberately used the term "macaca", just as he had heard his mother use the term "macaque" in reference to people whose skin is less than lily white.

Google "macaque, French, slur" and see what you get. While you are it, Google also "bougnoule" and "bicot", two other choice French racial slurs which I suspect George Felix knows all too well.

GEORGE ALLEN WHAT A MACACCA!!!!!!!!!!!

They're copying the Daily Show. Just last night they had a Rob Cordry piece with the word play of ma-caca and you-peepee. Quite funny, but isn't it amazing that the next day Allen picks up on the caca connection.

I've read George Allen's "apology" and it ain't one. An apology does not place blame on the victim for being offended; an apology accepts responsibility for the offense. And the term "macaca" was less offensive, to me at least, than Allen's use of the phrase "welcome to America", as if a dark skinned person could not already be a citizen. George Allen shows us who (and what) he truly is and I sincerely hope this puts to rest any nonsense of his being national leadership material.

Actually the Senator has not apologized. He has put the onus on the "target" -- if "he was offended".

Allen is a racist and a liar. Here are some questions:

- how come he could only think of one word "Macaca" when he though about this young kid? Why did not he refer to the kid as "that kid with the camera"?

- does a senator calling a young kid "shit-head" ok?

- Allen was clearly speaking in racist terms when he said to the kid.. "Welcome to America, welcome to Virginia". Why did he assume that the kid was not born here? It has to do with the kid's skin color.

Allen is not worthy of being a US senator.

I cannot stop laughing.....you guys are killing me... The late night commedians must read your comments..........OMG. The hits just keep on a coming!!!!!!!!!!!

I was really offended by Sen. Allen's recent unbelievable "macaca" comments. It reminded me of being a "Jungle Bunny" in third grade.

To vent, I made up some funny t-shirts and other stuff to celebrate the end of Allen's campaign (hopefully). I thought you might want to check it out.

I'm donating 30% of the profit to Allen's competitor, Democratic candidate Jim Webb.

==================
the GENUS of a Macaque monkey is: MACACA

Considering Allen's mother is from North Africa and "Macaque" is a racial slur, I'm not buying the Allen's explanation. Allen called a BROWN SKINNED AMERICAN a MONKEY... CASE CLOSED!

In related news, Michelle Malkin is a skink.

Click the URL to see what that means.

I'm horrified as American of Indian descent and humiliated as a Republican.

Vijay

I think the "Welcome to America" comment is just as offensive. Anyone that doesn't look waspish enough for him, isn't an American??

Mr. Sidarth is a citizen. What the hell did that comment mean??

So, if we believe him, he doesn't know his name, he (apparently) doesn't know his citizenship, yet he felt perfectly comfortable discussing both in a public forum?!?

And let's not forget his other comment--the one that was something like "Welcome to the real America." In the context of his visit to the more rural southwest region of Virginia, the only thing missing was his white hood.

Here's the bottom line: Someone needs to publicly challenge Allen to swear that he never heard his mother, a French-speaker who presumably taught French to her children and who lived in Tunisia, use the French word "macaque," which is a French racial slur for dark-skinned people. It's that simple.

It's simple - George Allen was describing the young man as "mocequa", a delicious Brazilian seafood stew with origins in Bahia.

As a beach city, Salvador is seafood lover's paradise. Places to dine in Salvador include Mistura Fina and Yemanja. Both specialize in seafood, and are short trips from most major resorts. Try the mocequa - a large stew made with onions, tomatoes and coconut milk that will be combined with huge portions of crab, shrimp or lobster. It's a true Brazilian dish that easily transfers to international taste buds.

Just because you apologize for calling someone a nasty, mean name in public, and get caught doing it, does not make it OK that you said it. Obviously this is part of Allen's normal speaking habit, to demean and use derogatory language when speaking about people of color.

Everyone seems so fixated on the "Macaca" comment they seem to be ignoring the other, in my mind, equally important part of what Allen said... "Welcome to America". Yeah, the "Macaca" thing was idiocy... and it may or may not have been innocent. But assuming that Sidarth was not American because of the color of his skin--that belies the truth about Allen's character.

Maybe he wanted to use the Greek "malaka" (wanker). Or maybe he's a fan of big-budget movie musicals and he greatly admires Gene Kelly pretending to be the pirate Black Macoco in "The Pirate."

He's a big fat racist, case closed.

I think Mike hit the nail on the head.

Allen meant: 'Round here, it's best if "folks like you" leave before sundown...

"I live in Brazil and here Macaca is a female monkey."

Lemmee guess. A male monkey is "Pacaca"?

"I'm sorry if you felt offended" is NOT an apology.

An apology is a polite phone call, and a nice donation to the NAACP, perhaps with an apology for being a stupid shithead himself with his white supremacist buddies.

What a shame we have ignorant, hateful people like this in positions of power in this country.

Clearly Allen is tired of his political career. Why else would he throw it all away so quickly? I think deep down he knows he an unqualified hack, so he took himself out. Good man.

This is not the first time that Allen has done something like this. Imus ripped him up and down this morning and as much as I dislike Imus he is very nasty when he is on a roll. He even had them play the Daily Show clip. I think this could be really damaging for Allen. He is not too bright either!

Macaca sounds more like a very common Brazilian Portuguese term " macaco" which translates to monkey, or very stupid person. It also sometime used to refer to black people, or indiginous brazilians, basically someone more lower evolved than others
DO a google image search on macaco

Felix is a macacaroon and a bigot. I'd like a nice push poll on that clown:

"Would you be more or less interested in voting for Allen if you knew he spoke French? If you knew he was French? If you knew he grew up in Southern California?"

Seriously Senator Allen:

Don't mind these anthropomorphic liberals who are trying to attribute human behaviourial traits to us (I am of Indian origin, a macaca - monkey right?). So from one macaca to another - these guys are outta their tree.

Considering that I vote for you, would you love to represent all macacas Sir. I sincerely hope you do.

A banana for your thoughts Sir!

Many regards from a billion macacas.

Please make sure that the Huffington Post's article by Senator Allen's sister, Jennifer Allen gets WIDER distribution. The same newspapers that are covering the racial remark to a 20 year old Indian man, should now go back and review his sister's book "Fifth Quarter: The Scrimmage of a Football Coach's Daughter". They can read some excerpts from the article on today's Huff Po site ( August 16,2006 at 11:01 AM). He is a secret Confederate flag waving bully and bigot.

Actually, "macaca" is Indian slang for "Democrats win control of Senate."

Macaca means female monkey in Portuguese, it is used to address a hairy woman, or an ugly one too!
Just another name calling from our dear politicians.

"Macaca" is a French racial slur, derived from the word "macaque," a genus of monkeys. The word is used to refer to the dark-skinned people of North Africa. But wait, you say, Allen isn't French! Why would he know that the word he "made up" was a French slur? Besides, don't we speak English in the United States? As it turns out, Senator Allen's mother is a French national who lived in North Africa before immigrating to the US.

Yeah, Vinnie the Greek tried to explain himself too.
Tony | 08.16.06 01:44 PM

Uh, I think you mean Jimmy the Greek.

QUOTE from furrycat:

And calling Sidarth a "Shithead" makes it even better?

Why, yes! Among Republicans, it must be some kind of endearment, like 'Turd Blossom'.

(But that's tomorrow's explanation.)

Yes, Virginia. Your senator is an asshole!

Why is everyone focusing on the word he used and letting these guys obsfuscate and digress you into a state of mumbling in a corner, like they always do?

It's the public denigration painted with racist overtones that's the issue. Another unworthy playing Prick Politics too close to the edge of his real personality. Big monkey flinging a little poo.

That's why George Allen is unfit to serve.

If Howard Dean can be hoisted for a scream, Ol' George oughta get shafted!

So Allen is a bi-racial child, or as one of my southern friends would say, a mulatto. Aren't North Africans dark-skinned?

Senator George Allen’s racial remark to a 20 year old Indian man last week, has re-highlighted accusations that the Senator is a bully and a bigot. Senator Allen’s sister, Jennifer Allen, documents many cases of her brother’s bullying in her book Fifth Quarter: The Scrimmage of a Football Coach's Daughter. Read the excerpts below.

Explaining why she is scared of heights, Ms. Allen writes that “Ever since my brother George held me over the railing at Niagara Falls, I’ve had a fear of heights.” [Fifth Quarter: The Scrimmage of a Football Coach's Daughter, page 43]

Referring to George’s relationship with one of her boyfriends: “My brother George welcomed him by slamming a pool cue against his head.” [Fifth Quarter: The Scrimmage of a Football Coach's Daughter, page 178]

Referring to George’s early leadership skills, Jennifer wrote: “We all obeyed George. If we didn't, we knew he would kill us. Once, when Bruce refused to go to bed, George hurled him through a sliding glass door. Another time, when Gregory refused to go to bed, George tackled him and broke his collarbone. Another time, when I refused to go to bed, George dragged me up the stairs by my hair.” [Fifth Quarter: The Scrimmage of a Football Coach's Daughter, page 22]

Referring to George’s early career aspirations, Jennifer wrote “George hoped someday to become a dentist. George said he saw dentistry as a perfect profession - getting paid to make people suffer.” [Fifth Quarter: The Scrimmage of a Football Coach's Daughter, page 22]

Referring to George’s habit of terrorizing a Green Bay Packer fan in their neighborhood, Jennifer wrote that the fan’s mailbox often “lay smashed in the street, a casualty of my brothers' drive-by to school in the morning. George would swerve his Mach II Mustang while Gregory held a baseball bat out the window to clear the mailbox off its post. . . . Lately, the Packers fan had resorted to stapling a Kleenex box to the mailbox post to receive his mail. George's red Mustang screeched up beside us, the Packers fan's Kleenex mailbox speared on the antenna.” [Fifth Quarter: The Scrimmage of a Football Coach's Daughter, page 16]

Interesting that my submitted comment about this tempest in a teapot was submitted between 5 and 6 pm. It was posted a short time later. Somehow, during the last few hours, it has disappeared to be replaced primarily with anti Allen posts! I thought the National Journal was bigger than that! Guess not!

George Allen just showed how shallow and arrogant he really is. I hope he loses the election and I won't have to watch his plastic smile anymore. I usually switch channels.

How can a man holding such high office even think this way. This prick isn't no leader he's another rich, racist, Republican cocksucker who are very diffrent in private than they are in public. Sometimes their private behavior slips out though and their real shitty natures show themselves. All American racist white fuck.

The only "macaca" here is Allen, a truly vile racist, bigot, and clown who has no chance of ever running for President...Virginia, if you continue to support this man, you are pathetic!

As a fellow macacan, I would like to ask is this is the same George Allen, United States Senator and Racist, who keeps a rope noose in his office to let African Americans know what he would like to do to them?

Is this the same US Senator George Allen who supported Trent Lott when he insulted African Americans at Strom Thurmond's birthday party?

If this is what it means to be a Republican, I hope that fellow shit heads, dot heads, rag heads, cow worshippers, and macacans like me realize that there is room in the Republican party for us.

I am sure there is well made noose hanging from a stout oak tree with my name on it somewhere in the South for me.

Thanks George

allan is typical stupid yank that suffers from foot in mouth, he should be sent back to grade school and start all over again in a inner city school where he is the only white and let him be the bitch to the rest of kids, allan you dont like it come up to canada and try to kick my ass, i dare you

>

Hey donna, To use another favorite expression of ethno-centric Virginians, "You're not from around here are yeh?". The "I'm sorry if..." is a typical southern left-handed apology. Its intent is to get the apologizer off the hook (as 'honorable') with present company; but the meta-message is: you sorry piece of crap, you are not worth the breath I take to talk to you. 'round here, if you are not FFV you are simply considered " 'Moo-ka-ka' " Its just part of the territory for us transplants from the North. They still don't like we got the last laugh at Appomattox some 140 years ago.

There is a vey obvious explanation. Senator Shithead has two problems. He can't see very well. He obviously mistook S.R.Sidharth for Paul McCartney aka Macca. He has a mild stutter. Thus, what he said was Macca-ca.

If every black person in America voted, we would not be talking about this confederate racist scum.

Macacus rhesus is a kind of monkey

I suppose with all of your comments, most of you are also interested in debating policy and issues, right?

I thought not. Carry on with your mindless interpretations of what was said, playing right into the media's hands. pathetic.

Context is important. Allen was speaking in front of a friendly, exclusively Caucasian audience of Republicans in the heart of redneck country. He used Sidarth in the same way he'd use a photo of a convicted terrorist or civil rights protestor.

"He's not one of US," was Allen's message. "We're white and clean, he's dark and dirty." Too much emphasis has been placed on the word "macaca." If Allen had said "nigger" or "darkie," the meaning to a redneck would have been the same. Allen knew his audience, and knew exactly what he was doing.

The notion that they had made up this 'word' and used it beforehand is pure horses*&t. This cover story has been concocted because they know that s&^thead is WAY easier to get away with than a racial slur.

Most likely, Allen was fumbling, couldn't remember the guy's name and came up with a term which was stuck somewhere nearby in the brain. Which happened to be a peculiar racial slur he learned in childhood ...

Howard York for President!
His Platform:
"Too damned bad, if you don't like it don't listen or read about it."

What a bunch of caca! Reid said, "I don't think George Allen would ever try to publicly embarrass or demean a young person even if that person was working on an opposing campaign." Uh... so calling him a "shithead" is not demeaning? Man, I thought people stopped smoking manure...

Allen, in his infinite wisdom, wanted to send the message to his "boys"--I can slur with the best of you. And he sandwiched the common "Hollywood elite" between the two macaca statements--a common euphemism for "rich Jews" (just ask Pat Buchanan). Someone should take ol' George to the dog pound and put him out his bigoted misery.

The question mark should be outside the quotation marks.

"Macaca"?

Mr. Sidarth is not just a 'citizen'- he's a native Virginian, born and raised there. Allen is a racist carpetbagger from California. Welcome to America indeed.

Remember when Howard Cosell lost his job as a football commentator when he called a black player "a little monkey"? Who said words would never hurt?

S.R. Sidarth, birth place: Fairfax, VA
G.F. Allen, birth place: Whittier, CA
So here you have a non-native Virginian "welcoming" a native Virginian to his own state. And whose role model is another faux cowboy.

The United States has had enough of White crackers from the south over the last 6 years to last its entire future history.

Macaque = Monkey in french
Calling someone macaque:
- could mean stupid, or childish: I've been called "macaque" by my mum when i was fooling around touching everything .. like a monkey. It was not about my intelligence or how I look. It was about my child like behaviour.

- could mean monkey as to mean looking like a monkey or as intelligent (or stupid) as a monkey in a racist way.

It's all about CONTEXT. So lets see what the context is:

* a half french tunisian senator who happens to understand french and who knows what macaque means

* a 20 yo indian american (dark skin)

* a 20 yo indian american in a crowd of white people only (singled out)

* a senator who cherish the confederate flag (with all the history behind it)

CONCLUSION: that's a bigot!

I REST MY CASE....

Wow -- both pathetic AND a lie.

We are all macaca now.

So Sen. Allen either a) used a racist slur, or b) called the guy a shit-head by combining "mohawk" with "caca", resulting in a nonsensical baby-talk word that he expected people to be able to understand, or c) called the guy a shit-head by using a nonsensical made-up word during a campaign appearance with no concern about whether anyone there would understand it or care.

Did Felix not see that the young man was holding a VIDEO CAMERA? Compounding the crassness of his remarks for me is the fact that he KNEW this was being recorded and instead of using some inner strength and discernment to constrain himself, he revealed his weakness and stupidity for digital posterity.

Wow, this ma-caca business with Senator George Allen (R-VA) is almost as good as Rep. Katherine Harris's doomed crashing-and-burning Senate run in Florida. This neo-fascist neo-imperial bush-cheney-rumsfeld regime is obviously in its last throes and the goopers are freaking out... There will be a little accounting and oversight come next January...

Speaking of Old Dominion (VA), some twenty years ago I spent a year living in Leesburg. A nice historical little town, I thought. Later, I learned that in the 1960s, rather then let black children swim with white children in the previously segregated (whites only, natch), the town fathers cemented in the pool. Hate dies hard when you're white, I guess.

Lyndon LaRouche, a total right-wing dingbat, terrorized Leesburg in the early 90s until the feds had him locked up on tax fraud charges.
Even seemingly nice little towns may have their problems.

Cheers, James K. Sayre

I know it's a stretch, but what if the kid really turns out to be a shithead? oops

His half-assed apology pisses me off. He's sorry that Sidarth was offended. He's not sorry that he made the remark or that he was picking on the kid or got carried away playing to his redneck audience.

"I'm sorry that that shithead darkie of a kid was offended."

What an ass.

Just how fucking stupid do you have to be to racially insult a guy, whose job it is to film you saying stupid shit, WHILE HE IS FILMING YOU!

We may have found a politician dumber than Bush.

Opponents of Allen have said that Sidarth's hair was clearly styled as a mullet rather than as a Mohawk.

so what kind of shithead, exactly, are we talking about? was the senator inaccurate as well as insensitive?

Mr. Allen seems to be following the lead established by arrogant, loud-mouthed right-wingers in the post 9/11 USA: that you can say something offensive in public, then follow with a pseudo-apology and thereby close the matter. Right-wing upstarts like Allen are copying the arrogance of GW Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice.

"I suppose with all of your comments, most of you are also interested in debating policy and issues, right?

I thought not. Carry on with your mindless interpretations of what was said, playing right into the media's hands. pathetic."

Jack: You do know that the topic of this thread is the Allen slur, don't you? If you wish to discuss other "policy issues" (you didn't say what you think we should be discussing, so I can only guess), then there are plenty of other threads and sites. Now go out there and talk about something not-Allen and save us all from falling into the media's hands.

Michelle Malkin is not a skink, but a skinkette.

Caca? Y'all leave my shit alone, you nasty Repubs, or learn to speak Spanish. Tried some Spanish on Sensebrenner who was in town yesterday, but he just looked at me kinda blank. I was going to offer him a young inmmigrant for a pet, but he just looked at me. Blank. Dumblike.

Jesus B. Ochoa, El Paso, Texas.

Lets face it, even if he (allen) meant it to be "mohawk" it's still offensive. I doubt a black perso would appreciate if you referred to him as "hey you, Afro" or a white person would appreciate if you called him "hey you Mullet" !!
simple as that

Hey, hey hey. You are all missing the real point. This guy speaks French. He is considered a Francophile. This makes him totally unfit to hold any office in our beloved Amurka. Why don't you get to the real issue?

Seriously, or not, I've never laughed so hard at comments in all my days. I only wish that Mr. Sidharth could read these and the other posts about this situation and know how many people are deeply offended for him and support him. Just think, he can tell his grandkids, "I took a U.S. senator out of the running for President."

George Allen is a pathetic excuse for a public official. How could Allen say something so offensive and still plan on running to represent a state filled with minorities? At least Northern Virginia, Richmond, and Virginia Beach areas won't vote for him. He's ridiculous.

Lights, Camera, Stupidity-
George, are you really that dumb? You had to know that at least ONE person was filming the event.
The video has now shown over 25,000 times on the popular video web site YouBoob..... I'm sorry, that's YouTube.
Senator..... welcome to the real world of ....Deep Cacac.

more at http://www.HooYaDadi.com

I know I'm late to this party, but here goes:

When I worked with Greeks as a waiter, they used the word for a good-for-nothing jerk an awful lot: "malacca." And that was the first thing I thought of when I heard this news, and I saw the word "macaca."

Also, the word for shit is "ska-ta."

Maybe Allen is Greek? It's Greek to me.

Oh, come on! Democrats always want to make something out of nothing. It's not racist! What idiots they are. It's a made-up word. Democrats would rather focus on this than real issues, like why they don't support the Patriot Act, the NSA wiretapping program, the data-mining program, the Iraq war, and all anti-terrorism measures. They just want to procrastinate and won't say the terror threat is "imminent" until a bomb is one minute from hitting us.

If he had said this to a black man his political career would be finished. Since the Indian community does not have the political clout, he may still hang in there.

The senator should be ashamed of himself. why did it take 10 days for an apology? A real man would take all but 10 minutes. How hard is it really to say your sorry and give a heart felt apology? his Political career has been wounded and his presidential campaign . . most definately finished. What a complete fool. He simply was appeasing the crowd that he was around. Nothing but a 2-faced fool. . .

I think that Allen is only sorry that he got caught. He's typical of the pompous , arrogant right winged war-profiteering cowards that currently are choking the life out of our once great nation.

Allen could only have meant the word in a derogatory way... pretending it's a "mash up" of two other words is condescending and pathetic, insulting on his part, and naive on the part of anyone who believes it.
And I agree that he only apologized because he wanted people to shut up about it. I doubt he was sorry he said it for any other reason than: it got him in trouble.
There is, as someone earlier pointed out, a bright side. Allen can speak French! That's nice, isn't it?

You guys are unbelievable.

Don't let your racism slip in public?

Only use code words when speaking on key issues?

Your guys on the editorial pages?

Your guys at FOX?

Just a PR Blunder that can be taken care of?

You Sir, whoever made the above comments, are an idiot. We're going to end up getting blind-sided by the extremist again, because you assholes are too busy coming up with code words to call us monkeys. Get over it. Get a dog or something.
