Rep. Joe Schwarz's Concession Speech
Liz Mair from GopProgress.com writes:
In his speech, Rep. Joe Schwarz (R-MI) pointed to his unwillingness to compromise his principles, when "pandering [to arch-conservatives] would have been easy."
Schwarz said that he and his team had "accomplished great things for the 7th district" and said he was disappointed that voter turnout was less" than he had hoped it would be.
He said that there were no excuses for his moderate supporters not having turned out, and that Walberg had won the election in areas dominated by "hard conservatives". The loss was, he said, the result of moderates
failing to come out to vote.
He pointed to the trend of the party slipping further to the right, but said that there was always a tomorrow, and ended by congratulating Tim Walberg on having won tonight by turning out his voters

Dear readers:
To those of you in the Michigan 7th US Congressional District, I am appalled.
Congressman Schwarz is the true measure of what the people of this country deserve in a representative. An honest man who stays true to his convictions and beliefs, such as Congressman Schwarz, is a rare thing in this country today and his unfortunate defeat has dampened my confidence in the electoral wisdom of the people.
Having personally met this great man on several occasions, I have seen that Congressman Schwarz is one of the last of a dying breed of true leaders who put partisan politics aside and reach across the aisle to get things done. Men like Senator John McCain and Congressman Joe Schwarz are the future of the Republican Party and perhaps the country. In order for the Republicans to retain control of both houses of Congress, level headed, no nonsense leaders like Congressman Schwarz need to be elected. Men and women with the capacity to listen to the arguments and make an informed and knowledgeable decision based on logic and reason, not party rhetoric. This is the only way to achieve the goals that Republicans strive for.
Being only seventeen, I was unable to cast my ballot for the future of a successful Republican Party, but I only wish I can be given the opportunity and indeed the privilege to cast my ballot in the future for Congressman Joe Schwarz.
With heartfelt remorse at the defeat of this great friend to the people of my district and the country, I hope and trust that we have not seen the last of Congressman Joe Schwarz. I can only wish his successor the best of luck in filling the shoes of a truly great man.
Collan Rosier
A concerned young Republican
Let us hope that this shows republican moderates are turned off by their own party. Let us hope that this shows REASON & LOGIC are starting to emerge as a viable political stance. Let us hope the Democrats notice this.
I believe (desperately and irrationally, like a christian his god) that the American public is just about to wake up to the realization that our country is covered in thick layers of political feces pooted out by the ugly butt of out collective ignorance of Reality.
Remember; we are only as honest as those that represent us. Whether we voted for them or not, they act for us on the stage of history.
Sigh...
Evidence that the Republican party has been taken over by the angry whackos of the right.
Is there any room left for moderates? It doesn't appear so.
It's a sad day for moderates and independent thinkers everywhere but mostly a sad day for the people of Michigan. Another example of out of state money from right wing zealots filling the heads and hearts of uninformed voters with mistruths and misrepresentations. 97% out of state funding!!! Tim Walberg has nothing to say, nothing to add nothing to offer but another prayer at a time when we need leadership, not rhetoric.
