NRCC Chairman Tom Reynolds Statement

WASHINGTON — National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chairman Tom Reynolds today issued the following statement:

"Rodney Alexander brought to my attention the existence of e-mails between Mark Foley and a former page of Mr. Alexander's. Despite the fact that I had not seen the e-mails in question, and Mr. Alexander told me that the parents didn't want the matter pursued, I told the Speaker of the conversation Mr. Alexander had with me.

"Mr. Alexander has also said he took the matter to the Clerk of the House. An investigation was then conducted by the Clerk and John Shimkus on behalf of the House Page Board.

"Mark Foley betrayed the integrity of this institution as well as the trust of his colleagues and constituents. There is no excuse, and he needs to be held accountable."

This is quite amazing. This matter was referred to Congressman Reynolds by Rep. Alexander clearly because the primary interest was in damage control, not protecting children. Reynolds claims he didn't bother to request the e-mails to ascertain whether or not an investigation needed to be pursued, therefore was derelict in his duties as a member. The Speaker, Dennis Hastert was also complicit in the cover-up. Other congressmen, such as Boehner, then swept the matter under the rug.

Although the first e-mails were not as incredibly graphic as those that have been subsequently released, any Representative entrusted with the safety of the public should have recognized it as classic "grooming" behavior. No 52-year-old man, particularly one as versed in child protection, as Foley claimed to be, should have been carrying on correspondence with a child as if he were a peer. Had a true investigation been done, Foley's widespread pedophilia would not have been allowed to continue.

Foley's sexual orientation has not been a secret to any member of Congress for over a decade. He was hardly as deep in the closet as say, Republican Representatives Schrock or Huffington or Drier, or Democratic Governor McGreevy. That was the Congressmen's own business, although they all voted against issues like gay marriage.

Red flags should have gone up as soon as the initial correspondence with this boy was revealed.

We have a Congressional leadership whose style, for the past five years, has reeked of mendacity, Machiavellianism and hypocrisy. It's caused the deaths of almost 2,800 young American men and women in Iraq. The public should at last demand accountability.

You're serious? The matter of others knowing about the situation and doing nothing about it can go away as easily as a press release? Is it any wonder that our leaders get away with the things they do...?

Ever wonder just what "trash" Foley had on these guys? If not, why would they have kept it so hush hush?

Helen Keller could show Stevie Wonder the writing on the wall in this situation. Foley, you are a sick sick man and not holding you and others accountable for any of your actions or inactions makes us contributors to your illness.

Rep. Rodney Alexander (R)could have thrown a stick in the spokes from the gitgo but did absolutely nothing. Had he done this there would be no alledged cover-up and no fingers pointed to other higher-up Republicans. Alexander should resign in my opinion.

who is running against this joker? can he be defeated? that would be good for him, his wife, his children, the whole damn country.

Congressman Tom Reynolds has betrayed the House Pages as well as the leadership of the House and his constituents.

He cannot be trusted to protect the Pages and should resign.

In the alternative...voters should turn him out of office and elect Jack Davis in Western New York.

Speaker Hasser also should resign and/or be voted out of office.

Both these people are examples of Profiles iin Failures...They lack courage and cannot be trusted.

Reynolds has never been anything more than a henchman for the Bush/Cheney train wreck. His career has been spent spreading the worn out lies and mis-information of the neo-cons that is causing this country to implode, while "feeding at the trough" of numerous junkets and fund raisers of the rich Pigs of our society. This latest despicable act of covering for a pedophile is, I'm sure, only a small example of the immoral and hypocritical deeds of this repugnant creature and his party. Separately or collectively, they are a disgrace. Impeach them, convict them and sentence them. But even they don’t deserve to be tortured. Although the irony would be sweet.

Lies, lies, cover-up, find a scapegoat. Isn't anyone in political life honest and trustworthy any more? I can't believe that Reynolds didn't see the seriousness of the complaints from the page. Even if his parents didn't want anything done about it..it is against the law.
I'm embarassed to tell anyone that I am a registered Republican..soon to be not!!
