Overlooked: What's The Matter With NC?From today's Hotline: NC is the only southern state which holds its GOV elections during presidential election years. This would presumably be a boost for most GOP GOV nominees, yet NC hasn't elected one since '88, while every other southern state has had a GOP governor at some point over the past 6 years. Wait, why would holding a gubernatorial race during presidential election years be an advantage to Republicans?
Most likely because Republicans have won in the last six years, and a lot of people vote for a straight ticket?
And having said that, I just can't kick the feeling that WV is part of the South, despite its historical background. It really is a Southern state - it just didn't want to be associated with the CSA.
I live in Durham NC. An we have not had a Republican Governor in 20yrs.An the Dem's control both houses. But the NC Democratic has been the DNC & our presidental candidate worst nightmare by acting like Dixiecrats.In 04 Gov. Easley was not out helping Kerry / Edwards nor the national convention. An let see how they treat Beverly Perude in the Governor race. The question is will they give her the same support as they did with ex mayor Grant. I have some very good concern about this up coming presidental race.
