Overlooked: Apparently Dems Don't Like Shopping
From today's Hotline:
Hillary Clinton, in a 3/18 energy speech: "I think America is ready to be asked to do something besides 'go shopping.'" And John Edwards, in a 3/20 energy speech: "The American people are ready for the president of the United States to ask them to do something other than go shopping."

Or maybe that after 9/11 the only thing Bush and his friends kept saying was, "Go shopping! It's good for the economy!"
Evan Bayh was using this in 2005 and 2006. Sounded much better when he said it.
I am shopping.
For a viable Democratic candidate.
I've decided to pass by Hillary Clinton and John Edwards.
this isn't remotely funny or clever.
Why are you twist and turn everything that democrats say?
When is Hotline going to have a headline saying, "Overlooked: Apparently Republicans Want People to Shop while our Soldiers are dying fighting in Iraq"?
Bush responsible for shopping. The dumbest democrat idea yet.
I wish I had time to give you a full response, but I am about to jump in my Hummer to go to WalMart to buy incadescent light bulbs.
NAR, it was true then more than ever. They were trying to urge a return to normal living, not useless expenditures.
Further, he wasn't running on shopping as a platform. It was a traumatic event, and I'm so glad neither Hillary nor John were anywhere near the White House when it happened.
NAR, I know that Lefties have selective hearing, but I'm reasonably sure you can easily find that "Bush and his friends kept saying" more than just "go shopping." Saying stuff like this just makes you look like the dimmest bulb on the Leftie Christianist Tree. OTOH, matt is giving you a run for the money in the Dimbulb Stakes.
Yeah, I'm doing the incandescent bulb shopping, too. In fact I'm starting to hoard them. I especially love the pink ones. Fluorescent light makes me nauseous and always has. Halogen is ok.
If incandescent does get banned, they'll be worth a ton. And the more the envirocommumoralists preach, the more I go exactly the other way. Backlash, anyone?
Note to Democrat politicians:
Some American taxpayers -- the people who pay for everything you do -- own and work in stores that sell things.
One of the biggest strengths of this country is its people. Pres. Bush should be dinged for not asking us to do more.
The "go shopping" meme is the most ridiculous one out there. Let's go to the videotape:
It's September 20, 2001. The Prez is speaking to Congress. He says,
"What is expected of us? I ask you to live your lives, and hug your children. I know many citizens have fears tonight, and I ask you to be calm and resolute, even in the face of a continuing threat.
I ask you to uphold the values of America, and remember why so many have come here. We are in a fight for our principles, and our first responsibility is to live by them. No one should be singled out for unfair treatment or unkind words because of their ethnic background or religious faith.
I ask you to continue to support the victims of this tragedy with your contributions. Those who want to give can go to a central source of information, libertyunites.org, to find the names of groups providing direct help in New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
The thousands of FBI agents who are now at work in this investigation may need your cooperation, and I ask you to give it.
I ask for your patience, with the delays and inconveniences that may accompany tighter security; and for your patience in what will be a long struggle.
I ask your continued participation and confidence in the American economy. Terrorists attacked a symbol of American prosperity. They did not touch its source. America is successful because of the hard work, and creativity, and enterprise of our people. These were the true strengths of our economy before September 11th, and they are our strengths today. (Applause.)
And, finally, please continue praying for the victims of terror and their families, for those in uniform, and for our great country. Prayer has comforted us in sorrow, and will help strengthen us for the journey ahead."
So, let's review:
1. Live your lives, hug your children.
2. Don't discriminate against Muslims.
3. Donate.
4. Bear with tighter airport security.
5. Be confident in the economy (go shopping?)
6. Pray for all of us.
Sadly, if you can read only "go shopping" out of this section, then that's the only thing you can think about.
Yeah, I'm doing the incandescent bulb shopping, too. In fact I'm starting to hoard them. I especially love the pink ones. Fluorescent light makes me nauseous and always has. Halogen is ok.
