YouTube Wars: Romney and Coulter Backstage At CPAC

An unfortunate video tape (who took it, we wonder?) surfaces. But Romney's campaign quickly condemned Coulter's remarks, and we're fairly certain that Coulter, when she appears on television later today, will criticize Romney for caving to pressure. Note: this video was recorded before Coulter spoke. (PoliticalDerby wants a hat tip for this anonymously forwarded video, so -- Hap Tip, PD. )

Hmmm. How Kerryesque of him, must be something with Massachusetts

Why, why, WHY do you insist on treating Romney like a victim instead of absolutely responsible for his current predicament. Really, what's the deal?

And WHY OH WHY is it unfortunate? It's unfortunate that we know how hypocritical Romney is? Please.

He is SO lucky.

I agree with someone who mentioned in comment on the other thread yesterday..

Coulter - Romney '08

with Coulter at the TOP of the ticket and Romney at the BOTTOM of the ticket, with Hotline incharge of PR.

I am pretty sure that flip-flopper Romney will be more than happy to be at the BOTTOM with Coulter. This will represent today's conservatism for sure!

She wont criticise him. He's her candidate. She'll make up an excuse for him, like "thats what he has to say for the media" or something like that.

I tend to agree with Jonesy. She's going to say he "had to" condemn her in order to appease the PC Left because it would do no good to alienate them completely at this stage. Not that he necessarily agrees with her, but he probably thought it was quite the funny remark. I assume the video must have been made before she dropped her bomb, right? And I really wish there were a tape showing the audience members so we could see who (if anyone) was sitting in stunned silence and who was yukking it up with her.

I don't get it. This isn't a Democrat or a Republican site. It's a political analysis site. It takes the perspective of each candidate through the analysis. It's "unfortunate" to Romney, from Romney's perspective. That's it. That says nothing about the merits of this issue. It's what the Romney camp is facing. Just like the negatives that the McCain camp may be facing are "not pleasant," or that the Obama camp looked "paralyzed." Really, some people need to go to the hackish sites if that's the kind of analysis they're looking for. Instead, I'm glad to see Hotline give us the analysis in terms of what it means for the individual's campaign, as "unfortunate" to the campaign, not from a morally absolutist perspective.

In other words, don't worry about Romney's actions, just pay attention to his carefully constructed press releases.

Observer, you write "This isn't a Democrat or a Republican site". "Democrat" cannot be an adjective. This bad grammar ("Democrat Party", "Democrat Senator", etc) is straight from Republican spinmasters (they like to emphasize the "rat" at the end), and since you're advocating for neutral political analysis on this site, please drop that usage.

Was Romney supposed to punch her out or something? Did I miss something in the audio - did he condone Coulter's remarks about Edwards? Didn't sound like it.

Looked to me like he was just being respectful of everyone. One can't keep a blacklist of people one isn't allowed to socialize with - that's ridiculous.

My estimation of Romney goes up seeing this. Polite, well-mannered, sense of humor, and a wonderful photogenic wife.

And attracting the support of single, blonde, politically-incorrect celebrity-pundits is not exactly a deal-breaker for Romney.

btw, I get a laugh at the Democrat Party stalwarts who get bent out of shape by the usage. Hey, Democrat grammar-freak, chew on this: Democrat is as Democrat does. :-)
