McCain, HRC Lead In League Poll Of South Carolina
COLUMBIA, SC -- From their Pickens St. headquarters here in the capital, the League of Conservation Voters released a poll this a.m. of South Carolina Democrats.
The poll was conducted April 14-19 by Ayers McHenry & Associates (R firm) and Hamilton Beattie & Staff (D firm). The sponsors are the Conservation Voters of South Carolina and the Coastal Conservation League.
First the carrots: A majority of South Carolinians believe that the next president should prioritize global warming and environmental issues, and over 80% agree that the government has a role to play in reducing emissions.
Now the dessert:
400 Rs and 400 Ds were asked about their presidential choices.
For the Dems:
Clinton: 31
Obama: 27
Edwards: 16
Undecided: 22
For the Republicans:
McCain: 24
Giuliani: 15
Gingrich: 12
Romney: 10
Fred Thompson: 11
Undecided: 22
Leaners were lumped in.

Is it just me or was McCain's speech flat, lackluster and completely uninspirational?
Yeah, it started off a little shallow, but he quickly regained his footing and definitely finished strong in his speech.
the only good thing McCain managed in his speech was opening the first salvo on Rudy, What about those radios Rudy?
McCain was awful on Daily Show last night. Jon Stewart destroyed any credibility that was left of McCain last night. McCain came up with his phony Bushie styled talking points and Jon destroyed them one by one. At some points McCain was seething in anger internally. McCain was trying to defend the indefensible.
McCain has only one platform left and that is keep on escalating war in Iraq.
I believe the percents you are quoting for global warming are only among Democrats.
The high percentage of idiots believing the hype about human-caused global warming is indicative of the intelligence of those responding to this poll.
1. Global Warming: We have to believe that with some education, the state of global warming will be better understood by the general public. It is therefore critically important to get a Republican candidate that can eloquently explain the issue.
2. As for an earlier comment about "indefensible positions" - the primary difference between Democrats and Republicans is and has been the difference between Socialism and Liberty. These positions are easy to defend. President Reagan did it quite well. I support the good old fashioned Liberty which we thrived on for so much of our history. I believe our leadership is now starting to slip under the weight of our increasingly communistic system - with its redistribution of wealth and insistance that the government knows best. I believe the USA took a dangerous turn away from liberty and toward socialism after the depression of the 30s, which was mischaracterized as having been caused by Capitalism and the stock market crash. The real cause being government mismanagement of liquidity. In any case, we were already recovering prior to WWII. But I digress...
3. I can not support McCain over most other Republican candidates as his record is too socialist for me. I am looking for leadership that will get the government out of our lives and out of our our pockets. But however much I might disagree with McCain, he is head and shoulders better than all the Democrats I've heard from - they all seem to want "Big Brother" to take control of our lives and treat us like children. I hear that Guilini has the best chance of winning a general election. I might prefer someone like Fred Thompson, but with all that is at stake, from Supreme Court Justice nominations to taxes, it is most important that we do not elect a socialist as President of the United States.
4. I say to my fellow Conservatives and libertarians who would sit out an election rather than support someone who they deem less than perfect: The only lesson you are teaching the politicians is to move more toward socialism - because those are the ones getting the votes.
