McCain's Statement: Disappointment..

From a release:

During the first quarter of 2007, John McCain 2008 campaign received nearly 60,000 contributions from all 50 states, averaging $200 per contribution. The McCain campaign will report over $12.5 million in contributions for the first quarter.

Campaign Manager Terry Nelson said, “Although we are pleased with the organization we’ve built and polls show us strongly positioned in key primary states, we had hoped to do better in first quarter fundraising. We are already in the process of taking the necessary steps to ensure fundraising success moving forward.” Nelson added, “Fundraising in the first quarter is no more important than fundraising throughout the entire primary election campaign.”

Given that he was raising for the general election as well...does that mean that Romney may have actually doubled him up?

That does not bode well.

This is absolutely pathetic. I dont care if it's only April, that fact that he can't raise money shows that there are many Republicans unwilling to support him. This is a very ominous sign for the McCain campaign, no wonder he is in Iraq. If things don't pick up, he will not make it to the end of the year.

And how much of that is general election money?

oh boy.

As I have been witnessing and noticing all the events occuring till this moment, I believe that Romney is the one to be in the best position to be the Republican nomination for 2008!

My vote's for Mitt Romney!

I know many people who would support McCain if not for his ridiculous stance on illegal immigration. Joining forces with Ted Kennedy one day, while Ted Kennedy spends the next 6 days of the week bashing Republicans makes people wonder about McCain's political savvy. Until McCain acknowledges the problems caused by illegal immigration, he will raise less and less money than the others.

People,

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Romney fan, but I must stand up for McCain here. These numbers are only as meaningful as all the other early polls. Before you write John's political obituary, recall for a moment that Howard Dean was leading the money derby going into Iowa in 2004. We all know what happened to him. It was a real scream.

These numbers for McCain mean that he will be around next month for the first Presidential debate at the Reagan Library. That is when the real campaign gets started, IMO. All the stuff up to then is just pre-season play. They represent something, but what exactly is anybody's guess. Ultimately they have seldom have much bearing on the final outcome of the season.

Sounds like McCain's last minute fundraising drive on the streets of Baghdad with heavily guarded security of 100 soldiers, blackhawk helicopters and apache gunships did not add too much to his kitty. For DoubleTalk Express the last minute surge in fundraising also failed.

As far as Romney is concerned, all his zillions will not help erase his flip-flops. Romney is an opportunist who changes his colors more often than a chameleon.

The idea of Geezer McCain or Rudy "Bernie Kerik Guiliani getting the nod is ridiculous. Giuliani's so dirty it's preposterous. I think the Mittster might get the nod, and thank god. McCain is a psycho warmonger and Guiliani is authoritarian creep. Mitt is a pretty average political slimeball, IMO.
