Romney's Deputy Campaign Manager Resigns
Ex-MA Gov. Mitt Romney's deputy campaign manager has resigned, a Romney aide confirmed to the Hotline Tuesday.
Jason Roe, who functioned as the campaign's top daily operating officer, told campaign officials today that he planned to leave.
"Jason informed the campaign on Tuesday that he decided to resign, citing familial obligations," said Matt Rhoades, Romney's communications director, in a prepared statement. "We understood and accepted what must have been a hard decision."
Roe, like several top Romney aides, commutes between Boston and Washington. Roe's wife lives in the D.C. area.
Roe was hired by the campaign after serving as chief of staff to Rep. Tom Feeney since 2003. He has also managed several congressional races. On Monday, the St. Petersburg Times reported that FBI agents had asked Feeney about a 2003 golfing trip with convicted ex-lobbyist Jack Abramoff. The Times also reported that the FBI asked the newspaper to turn over an e-mail Roe sent to the paper. The e-mail's contents, according to the paper, included the sentence: "Any assertion that this office knew Abramoff paid for the Scotland trip is a g--d----- lie."
Roe told the Times on Monday that he had not been contacted by the FBI. A Romney aide said that Roe's departure was not linked to his job performance. [MARC AMBINDER]

The fake empire of a fake candidate is crumbling. Millions of dollars can carry someone only a few yards and not all the way. Romney's changing positions will eventually take him down completely. For heavens sake this guy is even backing away from his own health care plan.. how pathetic!
It is very unfortunate for Romney.
So one more guy involved in a scandal has been part of GOP candidate's campaign team. No one should be surprised. GOP and scandals go hand in hand. Romney must have been proud to hire Roe who was involved in Tom Feeney's corruption case.
I would add a snarky comment about Multiple Choice Mitt, but he's got a snowball's chance in hell of ever being President, so why bother, right?
Lies. I just saw Romney in an interview with Van Susteren. In the interview he was touting the plan.
If this is the bar that we use to determine if a campaign is crumbling, then who rises above it? This occurs all the time in political campaigns. And if the only reason you use to claim that Romney is backing away from his health plan is a column that some hack wrote, then broaden your research. He just emphasized last night on national news. Keep up the good work!
Roe seems like a slimeball
If it is true that John McCain graduated from U.S. Naval Academy in 1958 standing 894 out of a class of 899, why has this not been pointed out by the Romney campaign?
The reason I am voting for Gov. Romney is because he is smarter than all of the other candidates whether they are Republican or Democratic.
The Country needs someone who is able to understand the world today.
