Ask Mitt Anything About Gays And Immigration
Sort of a fascinating response from ex-MA Gov. Mitt Romney to a question from an AP reporter about anti-gay discrimination.
"I oppose discrimination against gay people," Romney said. "I am not anti-gay. I know there are some Republicans, or some people in the country who are looking for someone who is anti-gay and that's not me."
Wonder who he's referring to? And can anyone really dispute his point -- that there are some Republicans who are looking for a candidate who does find homosexuality immoral and is willing to say so?
On immigration, Romney took a step towards answering the question posed to him by the press and by John McCain -- no, Kevin Madden, not the same entity -- how would he handle the 12M illegals already in the country?
"I don't think that we're going to round up 11 or 12 or however many million people and bus them out of the country. That's not what I'm talking about," Romney said. "Those who committed felonies, of course, would be deported. Those who require government assistance to stay here would surely need to get off government assistance and ultimately could not remain here on government assistance."
Still hasn't really answered the question, but the thoughts above limit his options a bit.

Instead of using the term anti-gay, Romney should use "gay-hater". I agree with him on the issue though. He thinks the behavior is immoral but he still respects gays. It's like how other Mormons, like Romney, view those who make a personal choice to dring alcohol. They disagree with the behavior but they don't hate drinkers. They will however, discourage drinking through legislation.
I see nothing wrong with his stance, though I think he needs to use a different term, "anti-gay" could mean anything.
Romney, never said he didnt think being gay is immorral. He is strongly opposed to same-sex marriages.
However, this does not give an excuse to look down on someone for that.
Premarital relations is also something immoral, yet when was the last time someone discriminated against heterosexuals who do immoral things. Just like everyone else, gays should be treated equally. But marriage is between a man and a woman. Marriage should be protected. That is what Mitt Romney stands for.
Your post is so trite I can't figure out what you're after-- we all know there are many folks who call themselves Republicans (and amazingly "Christians") who endorse hate-speech against, and silently accept violence against, gays. Are you pretending such hate isn't out there? That the GOP runs on a platform of preventing gays from enjoying rights heterosexuals enjoy? Romney specifically said today that he wasn't imposing his morals here--it's not about morality, it's about discrimination.
Taxpaying gay Americans have been slandered by their own government for 7 years and are forced to support government policies that explictly exclude them. You guys confused Romney's point entirely. He's anti-gay behavior, not anti-gay people. It's a lame distinction, but a great step away from Bush-Cheney hypocracy.
You guys should stop being so cutesy and try some clarity as well.
At this point I am voting for Mitt Romney. I am a Reagan conservative, received two presidential appointments, served as chairman of Reagan Bush campaign for fifteenth congressional district ,was an alternate delagate to Womens National Conventio in 74( only one of two conservative women from Michigan as NOW women had it set up to try to keep Conservatives out) I belong to local Minutemen organization,,I want to know Romney's entire views on illegal immigration
