Fred Thompson At Council For National Policy
A tipster sends along this report about Sen. Fred Thompson's speech before the Council for National Policy, a conservative club with deep ties to the movement, at the Ritz Carlton in Tyson's Corner this weekend.
1. Thompson got a standing ovation when we entered. 2. His speech started on judges and pivoted to Scooter Libby. No one understood why he was talking about Libby. 3. People seemed to like him because they felt like they had to. However, Thompson's presence empowered people to bad-talk Romney, McCain, and others, in a way that they hadn't done in previous CNP meetings. 4. People also recognized that he is not perfect for them. They recogized that it is awkward, even in context.

So Fredo bombed once again! He is as clueless as they come. He is just a B grade actor with a C grade senate career. Thats all.
Funny. All other reviews on the net have excellent. I was there, and can't give you the specifics, but overall it was a huge success. You might need to check your sources more carefully. If you haven't noticed, the reports from the Washington Times, and from some blogs have been very enthusiastic.
I can't comment on how good his speech was, but I agree with the previous comments, "He is as clueless as they come. He is just a B grade actor with a C grade senate career"
It appears he hit a home run at the meeting.
The Washington Times
Several leading Christian conservatives say they will rally to former Sen. Fred Thompson, who they expect to announce "in a matter of weeks" that he will seek the Republican nomination for president next year. "It's not 'if' but 'when,' he will announce," one Protestant evangelical leader says of the behind-the-scenes maneuvering for position in the 2008 race.
Heh. At least one commenter is officially full of crap... I just had dinner with someone who was there. She said Thompson was _awful_. 5 mins of pleasantries, 5 mins about the Constitution and the Declaration of Independents, 10 mins of Scooter Libby, the end. No questions afterwards.
errrr... Declaration of Independence*
I heard his speech. Great homilies to start. Then it was judges and Libby. No Iraq. No homeland security. No social issues. No size of government. No spending or pork barrel comments. No mention of the Presidency.
Good start, but it went downhill from there.
THE most important thing, however, is that Dr. Richard Land, point-man for Baptist politics, gave Fred Thompson a very glowing introduction, especially vouching for FT's pro-life support.
