Legit Iowa Poll Gives Romney A Major Lead In Iowa

Ann Selzer knows how to poll Iowa. So take these results seriously.

The latest Des Moines Register poll, 400 likely caucus goers, May 12-16, margin of error +/-5%.

Mitt Romney: 30%
John McCain: 18%
Rudy Giuliani: 17%
Tommy Thompson: 7%
Sam Brownback: 5%
Mike Huckabee: 4%
Tom Tancredo: 4%
Undecided: 12%

Romney's been on the air here for weeks; David Yepsen seems to love his debate peformances; his campaign is regularly sending mail pieces and telephoning caucus goers..... some combination of the above is paying off.

The Romney machine is gaining ground in the Hawkeye State!

The more exposure Mitt gets the more his stock rises!

I believe as this summer progresses, Mitt's numbers will continue to rise. He is really becoming the best chance for a conservative to beat Hillary next year. I just can't wait for the first debate between these two.

It should be noted that this poll does not include Fred Thompson or Newt Gingrich, two potential candidates likely to play very well in Iowa.

This lead of Romney is not going to last. He is no conservative. Just today I read that Romney criticized Contract With America in 1994. Someone has put up youTube video of Romney critcizing Contract With America in 1994 over the weekend. Romney called the idea of such an organized national platform overly divisive. Is Romney really a republican? I have never come across a single republican who criticized Contract With America at that time!!

Romney is worst than RINO. He is acting as if he is a republican but in reality he is as liberal as they come. I agree with McCain that Romney's positions change every even and odd numbered years. No conservative should vote for a turncoat like Romney.

No wonder pretty Romney is up in the polls. It looks like the Romney 'I am hot vote fo me' flyers in Iowa are having huge impact.

A republican sources in Iowa picked up a jaw-dropping flyer at a Romney campaign event last month. His promotional flyer says, “In this media-driven age, Romney begins with a decisive advantage. First, he has sensational good looks. People magazine named him one of the 50 most beautiful people in America. Standing 6 feet, 2 inches tall, Romney has jet-black hair, graying naturally at the temples. Women — who will play a critical role in this coming election — have a word for him: hot.”

Team Romney is distributing it at campaign rallies. In other words, the campaign is proud enough of this fluff that they want Iowans to see it.

So pretty boy's slogan is: “Vote for Romney; he’s pretty”. May be in next flyers they will als give away his vital stats..LOL.

Are you a propoganda machine for Romney? Why not publish the results of the same poll for Democratic primary in whcih John Edwards is leading with 29% vote? I always see some unique glowing coverage of Romney on this site but Hotline never covers any negatives news about Romney. How about covering his flip-flops?

This must be really good news for the Romney camp. His strategy of focusing on the early primary states seems to be paying it's dividends.

It is noteworthy that Fred Thompson and Newt Gingrich were not included in this poll, but is also noteworthy that Mitt previously polled 25% in a March 2007 Zogby poll and a minuscule 5% in a January 16, 2007 poll.

Go Mitt Go!

Romney continues to prove his critics wrong. He is by far the most competent and presidential of the bunch. It is no suprise to me that he continues to move up as people get to know him better and better. This despite the media's obsession with calling him a flip flopper despite him not being one anymore than the other candidates.

tamneynl,
So is it only news when the story is negative? Otherwise it's propaganda? No wonder the MSM is what it is today, it has to pander to the likes of viewers like you. Pity. BTW, they're not reporting on his "flip-flops" because there is no real story there, and only people who refuse to look at his record seriously, prefering instead to just accept the media spin unquestioningly, think there is. Good luck with whoever your candidate is in 2008, you will need it.

Gee Randy, I can’t wait for a Hillary/Mitt debate either. Perhaps he can use the debate to explain why he is now anti-choice instead of pro-choice, anti-gay rights instead of pro gay rights, the donation to Planned Parenthood, etc., etc.

Totally agree with Tamney about how Hotline is promoting Romney. Where is the complete poll including Democrats?
Regarding Romney being a FlipFlopper its a fact and not someone's imagination. Ask Brownback, McCain, Gilmore, even they are calling him a flipflopper. Romney is a pro-abortion, pro-gun-control, pro-gay-marriage type of liberal at his heart and has changed his position only because he wants to get the nomination. He is fooling all of us republicans. Romney is the most dangerous man out there to the conservative cause. I will rather have someone like Huckabee or Paul as our nominee than this turncoat Romney.

By the way, shame on Romney for criticizing contract with America. He is no republican for sure.

Romney is a FAKE.

Vote for real republican not a fake republican.

Politics and opinions aside, the FACT is, based on our knowledge of the job of a president as an executive with managerial and administrative duties, ROMNEY is the BEST QUALIFIED candidate, the most competent based on his experiences, character and intelligence! THOSE ARE FACTS! FACTS! FACTS! Place him with all other candidates (Republican or Democrat) and he is a man among boys - another FACT! Just watch the debates!

Also, the reason they didn't mention Edwards is because that news isn't new. He's been leading Iowa for a while now.

Browse the archives and you'll see fair coverage of Romney.

It's sad that so many today instantly throw out accusations of bias when they don't like something they read, see, or hear.

Romney's Millions are talking at the moment and he will fade away eventually. No real republican is going to vote for Romney who is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Romney was so afraid of loosing in MA that he did not run for the second term. He is a classic example of all hype but no substance.

If you are going to tag Mitt Romney with the flip flop name then you are going to have to tag everyone with it. People learn and grow. If you are a politician you are bound to have to change positions as you gain in experience and see how laws affect the people. Mitt Romney has shown how consistent he is about his stand as a prolife candidate by how he governed in Mass. He was very prolife in all he did as a governor. Go study the history of his governorship and quit name calling. Also he never flip flopped on gay rights. He is still in favor of fair treatment of gays and is consistent with his desire for them to be treated fairly. He does not however believe that this entitles them to Marriage to same sex partners. He has always stood firm on this point too. His belief has always been that marriage should be between a man and a woman.
Mitt has shown a very strong ability to organize and motivate many people. This is an important skill for a President to have. His rising in the polls is an indication of how many people are impressed with him and believe he is a good presidential candidate.

All of you who claim he is a liberal at heart and he is trying to fool us, where is the beef? A few words from a debate with ted kennedy, some compaign promises governorship in liberal mass.? Don't bother to look at his record, or even his entire platform from his senate run (as if he only had a position on one issue, abortion.). You people have your agenda, fine. But don't come here pretending to state facts, with nothing but MSM regurgitations. He was pro-abortion,though not personally (he is a mormon afterall, I have yet to meet one who is personally pro-choice), he supported (and still does, I might add, no "flip-flop" there) certain restrictions on assault weapons, and was never pro-gay marraige. Get informed.

Perhaps you Romney haters should actually take some time to study the man. Study his entire life and the kind of man he is.

Romney is someone who sincerely believes in what he says, but whose actions speak volumes to the kind of man he is as well.

You call him a flip-flopper, but have you really sat down and analized what he said? Have you stopped to think that he could be pro-life while at the same time not want to change the laws as they were written?

Also, people say Romney is anti-gay rights, but when did it become taboo for a person to oppose discrimination against gays, but still be against gay marriage?

Why don't you just review the facts. I am sure if you had spent any time in 1979-1980 reviewing Reagan's past with as much scrutiny and the level of standards you apply to candidates today, you would view Reagan as a flip-flopper because of the abortion bill he signed while governor of California. Yet you choose to paint Romney as one. The question is why? I'll tell you why. It's the same reason several House Members I have talked to won't endorse Romney. They see him as the probably the best candidate in the GOP field, but they have just one problem with Romney. He's a Mormon and they can't set aside their 150+ year old religious intolerance and accept him as the most viable candidate the GOP has for 2008. Yet by so doing they are saying to 6 million American citizens that they are unfit to be president of this nation.

When are we going to end the bigotry and intolerance that has plagued this nation since it's founding and become a nation where ALL men (and women) are created equal?

I think Rudy Giuliani will make a comeback. For more campaign stories , you can check www.politicalwire.com .
