An Edwards Endorsement?
Barack Obama heaping praise on John Edwards last night on ABC's Nightline ... Script after the jump, per NJ's Emily Goodin ...
Asked if he's looking for a deal with Edwards, Obama: "I have spoken to John Edwards."
Moran: "About that?"
Obama: "No. Just generally about the campaign. I don't want to go into the details of the conversation we've had. But look, John's running a terrific campaign. He's still competitive in a number of states coming up on Super Tuesday. I think his attitude, like the rest of us, is he's going after as many delegates as he can get."
Moran: "But that sounds like a non-denial denial. Did you tell you'd like his endorsement?"
Obama: "That I can say unequivocally. I'd like Hillary Clinton's endorsement. Then we can start concentrating on the endorsement."

I hope Edwards doesn't endorse either one of them.
From your typing fingers to God's ears ... !
that's the dumbest thing i've heard. this is politics, dip.
Edwards will endorse Obama
Edwards will endorse Obama
That last line in the quote should read "Then we can start concentrating on the Republicans."
Edwards WILL endorse Obama.
Edwards will endorse Obama, Obama will chose Edwards for VP...
Edwards would not endorse Obama for one clear reason. He wants to make it closer to the WH. Obama is clearly not getting the nomination. If Edwards were to endorse anyone, it would be Clinton.
Obama would not pick Edwards as his VP. He'd go with a Biden or Richardson to counter Republican charges that he's too inexperienced to be president.
Edwards was a bore, but his endorsement could spell great things for Obama. Lets hope he endorses President - Elect Obama.
let's just hope Edwards endorses Obama -- clearly they share the same vision of moving the country forward, rather than going back to the same old antics and cynical strategies of the Clintons.
Hooray for Clinton! Polls have Edwards supporters breaking for Clinton as second choice over Obama in a 3:1 split. Democrats unite behind Hillary.
Those "polls" have proven to be wrong every single time though. I wouldn't put too much weight in them. Most Edwards voters are anti-Hillary. I think this will be good for Obama.
I would love to see an Obama/Edwards ticket. I really admire Edwards and I think he would be great in the White House.
Bring on the change...Obama '08.

The polls could not be far enough off for Obama to win at this point. We allow this to go on so that we'll have something to talk about and the media loves it! Clinton will undoubtedly win the nomination.
I think Edwards should not endorse anyone until after Super Tuesday. Let his supporters make up their own mind!
Clinton cannot and will not be elected. If Obama does not receive the nomination, 4 more years of Republican fear mongering. At least it won't be Guilliani.
Everyone (including me) is sick and tired of the Bush and Clinton domination. Clinton will NOT will in the general election, thus, she should NOT get the nomination. Edwards clearly sees Hillary as part of the problems with Washington, as seen in the debates. Edwards will endorse Obama beofre Super Tuesday, and if you want a Democrat to win in November, you better hope he does!
I am not sure, but come on people!!! The republicans have picked McCain, I hope Democrats realize that there is no way Hillary can beat him. Half the country already hates her, and McCain will get ALL of the independent support. Obama will get votes from republicans and independents becuase of his message and the excitement he creates. If you want a Democrat to be president for the next four years, you better vote Obama. Hillary has NO chance against McCain.
The last two comments are right on. The general election is the Democrats to lose... by nominating Hillary. Which I'm afraid they will do but I'm crossing my fingers... go Obama!
If Edwards endorses Hillary it would completely contradict his entire campaign. Was his campaign not entirely focused around ending the handle lobbyists have on Washington? Looking out for the middle class? He would be looked at as a complete liar and sellout by all his supporters.
Don't count on it. He'll endorse Obama, if anyone.
If the Edwards supports gravitates to Hillary we might as well go home and wait for 2012. She'll polarize the election, energize the right wing, have no pull with the independents, and assure McCain victory in 2008. Do we really want to go there? End the B(H)illary drama now. It's exhausting.
I hope Edwards endorse Obama...Obama for President..
I firmly believe that Clinton. Will not beat old tired mccain in November. I would love to see obama and mccain have a fierce debate about our troops coming home. Obama 08
please I think a clinton obama ticket would scare the crap out of the republicans
You are delusional if you think a Clinton-Obama ticket is even REMOTELY possible.
There is no way Hillary Clinton could become President. More than half the country (men and women) dislike her.
Obama is the best chance to win and the best representative for our country to the world. He has the best shot at beating McCain.
Clinton-Obama ticket would be a disaster for Obama if he wants to beat McCain.
Get rid of the Clintons. We don't need 8 more years of scandals and polarization.
Lets be frank. The first black man to be elected to the White House CANNOT be VP. Period. African American Voters will not back such a thing. And as for the idea of Hillary as VP. Not a chance. The woman is too arrogant to accept anything other then king. Frankly the tipping point for me for supporting Obama outright was Hillary's behavior during some of these debates. I've seen more civility in a pit-bull ,and I don't think I'm the only one to feel this way. Edwards better endorse Obama if we stand a snowballs chance of taking the WH back.
Edwards will endorse Obama before Super Tuesday. He will not endorse Clinton because she represents soo much of Washington that Edwards rallied against. And Shrillary has no chance in heck in beating McCain! Obama is the best best to beat the Republicans! If Romney squeaks by, which I don't think he will, it will be even better for Obama. But I am a dem and I will vote against another 8 years of the Clinton Dynasty! We cannot stand yet another 8 years of scandals and disgusting displays of partisan politics. It's time for us to come together once and for all and actually get some stuff done! If Hillary wins, it's another 4-8 years of stagnate and bitter divide!!!! We have to do more than hope she doesn't, everyone needs to go vote for Obama during Supertuesday or you can say goodbye to the whitehouse until 2016!!!!!
first women president of us is closer to reality then ever before.
woman power will change our destiny for good...
I believe the Edwards campaign and the Obama campaign have been talking for awhile. Edwards wanted to wait for Hillary to win Florida and then he dropped out to take the attention away from her. Edwards will endorse Obama, i believe, right before Super Tuesday when Hillary believes she is strongest.
I also believe Hillary can not win the white house unless we were up against Huckabee, which won't happen. The national polls are getting closer and closer to being tied and when they're that close, they usually tip towards obama.
Obama '08 for America's and the World's future.
I find andy's comment quite interesting. it would be very shrewd of edwards/obama to spring a pre-super tuesday endorsement. cutting short the clinton florida "win" spin also is revealing. why else would he not have waited out until after super tuesday to drop out?
on another note, obama cannot offer edwards a vp ticket, obama probably needs to seek a vp with national security/experience credentials or that has conservative appeal. I think obama has offered obama something else in exchange for a supertuesday endorsement...
I agree that Edwards is most likely already with Obama, and I think they have worked out some kind of plan, probably a Monday endorsement or over the weekend (during a super bowl commercial break perhaps?) depending on when is deemed most strategic. My guess is that Edwards will not be chosen for VP, but for Attorney General. This is a highly appropriate post for Edwards, and will allow him to reign in and prosecute the rogue corporate behavior that has been damaging the democratic process.
to Robert Levy: He would make an excellent AG but don't you think an Obama/Edwards ticket would be fool proof?
Edwards may wait until after Super Tuesday to endorse Obama, or he will wait until the cnventin?

I hope everyone is aware that if there is a Billary nomination that cigars are not in order for a celebration. What happened to "Whitewater"

i think edwards is THE ultimate kingmaker in this. his flock may have gravitated to one side or other. but they will reassemble under edwards and follow his recommendation. do not forget who his flock is - working class folks. they tend to be a fairly unsophisticated mix who follow the trusted edwards but do not have strong opinions otherwise. if edwards leads this flock to hillary, she likely blows out ohio, PA and texas as the working class is so heavily represented there. if edwards delivers this block to obama, this is the block obama is missing from his mix - lots of working class voters. it's over for hillary if edwards hits the campaign trail for obama before ohio, TX and PA. finished, over, working class and women is mostly all she has left. take a piece of that and we all write hillary's obituary.
edwards wants something - a job and workers rights "written in blood" his camp says. hillary offers all of the above - she said yesterday edwards can have any job plus all he wants. that means she would make him running mate, AG anything just to get him to help her win. obama would likely hand over workers rights gladly but he is holding out on something - likely a job for edwards as obama may have that committed elsewhere already. so edwards stands back and smokes out obama. he is not smoking out hillary, she already offered all he wants. edwards is rumored to be leaning more obama - but there is something he wants obama is not giving up, so he is laying in wait.
if edwards swings obama, hillary can pack up and go home, it's over. it will tip the scale of the steel workers in PA and ohio, the army of working class folks in those crucial states. but edwards can also break obama if he swings hillary and helps her win the fat delegates there. edwards will determine the outcome. washington post says gore and edwards are both crucial. i disagree on gore. gore is needed, but later in the government. and the gore supporters are already with obama anyway, and the missing working class folks voters want better wages, health care and are largely oblivious to environmental policy, so gore does not matter much aside from being a beauty prize. i am not diminishing gore, he is my big hero. but i think he is irrelevant in swinging the crucial working class votes in Ohio, PA and texas.
Edwards should and will endorse the person he feels best represents his interests and the interests of the working class people. He is after all a politician, and let's not go overboard or oversell his endorsement. We all know what happened with Kerry, Kennedy, Oprah,et,etc.
Everything depends on Ohio, Texas and PA and he could play a role and help either candidate in the next couple of weeks.
I believe Obama doesn't need him that much, but Hillary can sure use his help.
Either way, my vote won't be swayed by his endorsement.
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, the cock shall not crow, till Edwards hast denied Obama thrice.
Obama was wise to request the meeting with Edwards be kept secret -- it would take the sting out of a possible Clinton endorsement.
The press having been being "tipped off" about the meeting (by Edwards, I suspect), only makes a Clinton endorsement appear stronger than it might otherwise be viewed (read: more silver coins for the anti-poverty candidate!).
Honestly, I can't quite decide which biblical character that would make Senator Edwards: Simon-Peter? Judas? Perhaps just another in the crowd who unleashed Barabas?
I am well aware that this must seem like a messianic conspiracy-theory, but when the Clinton Machine gets desperate, rational thought becomes a liability.
That being said, if I am right, it suggests the involvement of other senior democrats who, along with Edwards, recently attended Al Gore's "Lady or the Tiger Summit" (read: Pelosi, Biden, and Dodd). The summit gave some signal of which door they were favoring, by showing alignment with Obama on the question of a super-delegate overturn of the won delegates. And this, according to my theory, baited Obama into meeting Edwards at a time when Clinton desperately needs to break his momentum.
Maybe I'm way off.
Maybe it's a feint within a feint within a feint.
Whatever the case, take caution in whatever door Edwards should point you toward: this is a man who talks about poverty while rewarding himself to a $400 haircut.

If you're wondering, yes, it is intended to be purely sarcastic. And, I think you know what I mean when I say "is."
I do not actually think former Senator John Edwards is such a bad guy.
