Fmr Cleveland Mayor Leaves HRC For Obama

Former Cleveland Mayor Michael R. White writes today in his hometown paper that he's flipping from Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama.

A snippet:

Six months ago, I supported Senator Hillary Clinton. My wife JoAnn and I are friends of the Clintons. President Clinton was only the second elected official, after the assassinations of the 1960s, to give me hope again. Not withstanding his personal transgressions, President Clinton loves America and tried to do as much for the same Americans that the Kennedys and Dr. King were concerned about. But, after watching the primary election process by the day and sometimes by the hour, I decided that I cannot cast my vote for Senator Clinton.

On March 4th, I'm voting for Barack Obama because I want real change in our America, and he's made me hopeful that he has the intestinal fortitude to make the change which our country so sorely needs.

As an African-American, I am proud to see Barack Obama make such an extraordinary effort to become the President of the United States. But being Black is not enough for me to vote against my friend. I am voting for Barack because he has rekindled my hope again through his experience, vision and leadership for change in a political system that has gone so awry.

Even now, I still can't understand why people can't tell Bill and Hillary Clinton apart.

Translation: I'd better get on the bandwagon before it's too late! Then I'll be stuck eating lunch with the geeks and freaks and I'll never be one of the Kool Kids!

But being Black is not enough for me to vote against my friend.

Translation: But a call from Jesse Jackson Jr. asking me if I am really not going to support the man who could become the first black president will.

Sounds like Rep. Emanuel Cleaver needs to school Mr. White in the meaning of friendship.

It is amazing to me that style is winning over substance. What does Obama actually stand for? Where are the tough questions on how he would govern this country? The nation seems to be enchanted by talk of change, the real issue is electing someone who can bring about change. That would be Hillary, it certainly isn't Obama. He has minimal experience, he would be overwhelmed by the complexity of the job. Is this black vs white - yes, I am afraid so. Although Obama is picking up some white vote, 9 of 10 blacks see an opportunity to elect a black man to the White House, including former supporters and friends of the Clintons who are now flip-flopping and jumping on the bandwagon. If he is elected, are we ready as a country to undergo two or three years of uncertainty while our new president is trained in his position. Someone like Colin Powell, yes. Electing Obama - that would be trouble for the USA.

Brad, visit his website at Barackobama.com to find out what he stands for and what he's done. You'll be impressed. I was.

I find it amazing that people will attack Barack for not having sufficient "experience" or only having "style over substance". The reality is he has style AND substance.

Again, hit the website. It was very helpful to me in researching about and determining which candidate will get my vote.

Why is this the only answer (along with "Read his books") that Obama supporters ever give? It's such an inadequate answer.

Are we electing a person or a website?

The "see the website/read his books" crowd is the group that can’t really articulate what Obama is all about.
