Michelle Obama: "Yes, I Am Proud"
CLEVELAND - Michelle Obama is proud. Yes, she is.
At an event today at Cleveland State University, the wife of Barack Obama talked about the breadth of support her husband's campaign has seen across the country, saying it was a testament to the power of hope.
"When was the last time we've had a presidential candidate of any gender or race or political party who pull together wins in places like Idaho and Utah and Louisiana and Georgia and Maine and Alaska and Missouri, and Illinois?" she said. "What we've been seeing over the course of this year is that folks are hungry for change. ... We've learned that in this nation with a little bit of hope and inspiration people do want to take hold of their destinies and move it in a different place. So yes, I am proud."
Obama took some heat over the last few days for saying duirng a recent campaign event that she is proud of her country for the first time in her adult life. Her remarks drew an uncharacteristic counter from John McCain's wife, Cindy, who said that she's always been proud of her country.
"I just want to make the statement that I have and always will be proud of my country," Cindy McCain said Tuesday in WI.

Obama said today that middle class Americans are finding it harder and harder to live prosperous lives. "The bar has been moving and shifting on most Americans, and it makes people frustrated," she said.
She said she did not want to be "a downer," but that the kind of upbringing she enjoyed "is becoming further and further out of reach for regular folks." The answer, she added, is a certain four-letter word. "We do need to be inspired," she said. "It's not empty rhetoric. It's not. Everything begins with a little hope."
Obama said that her husband is a "new kind of leader" who could move people to do better, citing the character and integrity he showed when he was working "in the shadows" when no one was looking. "That is an indication of what kind of leader they'll be and let me tell you something about Barack," she said. "Most of what he did was in the shadows. So don't let people turn shadow work on the ground into inexperience. That's a game."
Obama attracted a crowd nearly twice as large as one that greeted Chelsea Clinton in the same location just last week. She was introduced by Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, who announced his endorsement of Obama. "Senator Obama is committed to urban centers, and he understands that to rebuild the urban centers of America will serve as an economic engine for business investment and job creation," said Jackson, who was elected in 2005 to lead Ohio's second largest city.

Michelle is a narcisstic whiner who has a HUGE chip on her shoulder. The AMERICANS to be proud of are all those white, brown, and black (and there were plenty of each) who marched and sacrificed, including giving their LIVES to fight for their country, including fighting racism. She will only be proud if her husband (the slumlord pal) is elected, how childish. Why is she not proud of the sacrifices made by Americans before her that allowed for programs like affirmative action so she could attend a prestigious college even though her (self admitted – read Newsweek) grades and SAT scores were not good enough. It’s all about Michelle – a typical whiny rich person – she’s no better than Paris Hilton – oh the country is so unfair!

Michelle is amazing! How great it would be to have her as our first lady!
Go Obama!
michelle Obama has hoof and mouth disease. She comes to Texas and sticks her foot in her mouth. I have been a proud America for years. Senator Obama needs to educate his wife to think before opening her mouth. Do you think Obama will win Texas? I don't think so.
Hmm...let's see--Ivy League education. Succesful career. Two happy and healthy children. Yes, I can see why it wasn't until her husband ran for president that Mrs. Obama had a sense of pride. We all know that an education that is out of reach for a large number of Americans is something that should shame most Americans. This narcissitic self-important woman needs to STFU.....from my point of view America has been more than good to her. Perhaps it has dawned on this woman that she would not have gotten as far as she has in Life if she wasn't black. Just a thought.
In the beginning, I liked Obama. But I soon noticed a pattern.
Our country is a failure. America sucks basically.
Obama begins explaining our downfalls one by one. The misery we have
forced on others. I'm defeated...and hopeless.
But then, Obama speaks about being able to save us. My spirit lifts.
Each speech starts with condemnation and ends with salvation.
This pattern is becoming sick. Obama, nor his wife, acknowledges our
greatness. We are the people, over 300 million of us verses over 1000
politicians, and we are being told we are failures....but OBAMA can save
our souls.
Their speeches amount to hating who America is and pay back for being
told to wait in line (Michelle) for college. Over 100 years later and I'm still
being made to feel guilty for having to stand in line for college.
Wasn't it Obama, who recently attacked McCain for saying American could
be in Iraq for 100 years? Quite an attack seeing that his wife thinks we still owe her.
In her senior thesis at Princeton, Michelle Obama wrote:
"I will always be Black first and a student second."
Does that mean she is black first and an American second? Probably. As a minority, I hope that she will never become the First Lady, because I will always fear she will think of herself first rather than the general good of the public.
Now, in the day of responsibility - let's ask - how many universities FOR ALL have blacks created? And none of that crybaby stuff about the past.
The Japanese were devastated in the 40's and they got on their feet.
Are blacks who are perfectly capable in 2008 - creating jobs or opportunity for ALL - whites, Asians, Native Americans, Hispanics?
Why is it always the responsiblity of whites only to create opportunity?
I am half-white and I see too much blame being placed and not enough credit for whites.
Did Barack or Michelle benefit from affirmative actin?
