MoveOn HRC
MoveOn.org, the progressive group launched out of the Bill Clinton impeachment mess, has endorsed Barack Obama's presidential campaign. The group says it has 3.2 million members nationwide and over 1.7 million in Feb. 5 states and plans to mobilize immediately to help GOTV for the Illinois senator.
Remember ... the group's founders circulated an online petition in 1998 to "Censure President Clinton and Move On to Pressing Issues Facing the Nation."
MoveOn's political action members voted 70.4% to 29.6% to support Obama over Hillary Clinton. Today, Eli Pariser, MoveOn.org's executive director, issued this statement:
"Our members' endorsement of Senator Obama is a clear call for a new America at this critical moment in history. Seven years of the disastrous policies of the Bush Administration have left the country desperate for change. We need a President who will bring to bear the strong leadership and vision required to end the war in Iraq, provide health care to every American, deal with our climate crisis, and restore America's standing in the world. The enormity of the challenges require someone who knows how to inspire millions to get involved to change the direction of our country, and someone who will be willing to change business as usual in Washington. Senator Barack Obama has proved he can and will be that President."

Oh well. Just when I was beginning hope that, if nominated, Barack could wing the Nov election, here comes MoveOn and throw cold water in my face. Barack will be an interesting candidate to watch, again, if nominated, because we really do not know how he will do in the general election. He can over perform or under perform. He will be extremely vulnerable to unexpected events. Don’t forget, Americans vote their hope in the primaries, but they vote their fears in the general election. How else can we explain George Bush? Anyway, this is extremely depressing because the Democrats really had a good chance at really controlling government in 2009. As a movement candidate, Barack Obama is not better than George McGovern. A 38 to 42% candidate in the general election. I can see this coming. I am not as emotionally invested in a candidate as Obama followers seem to be. I want to win in November. And the Democratic party in an exercise of supreme self indulgence will throw the possibilities away. Just be ready for President McCain. MoveOn.org then will have a nice 8 years to moan and bitch and complain!
