Clinton: MI, FL Results Were "Fair And Should Be Honored"

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a brief speech to a U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce meeting here Wednesday, Hillary Clinton again called for the results of the uncontested primary elections in Florida and Michigan, which she won, to be honored.

Earlier today, her campaign manager sent a message to Barack Obama's team, making the same point.

Clinton applauded the record participation in the primary elections this year, including high turnout among Latinos.

"If you're a voter from Florida or Michigan, you know that we should count your votes," she said. "The results of those primaries were fair and should be honored. Over the last few weeks, there's been a lot of discussion about what we should do to ensure that the voters in Florida and Michigan are counted. Well, in my view, there are two options, honor the results or hold new primary elections. I don't see any other solutions that are fair and honor the commitment that two and a half million voters made in the Democratic primaries in those two states. You know, whether voters, you know, are clamoring for solutions to the challenges we face or not or whether people are coming out in droves to be heard, we have a basic obligation to make sure that every vote in America counts, and I hope that Sen. Obama's campaign will join me in working to make that happen. I think that that is a non-partisan solution, to make sure that we do count these votes."

Clinton spoke for about 13 minutes, focusing on the importance of small businesses in America, how her plan for universal healthcare plan would help them and about the need to make awarding of government contracts fairer.

Not exactly. Clinton campaign manager Maggie Williams' letter to David Plouffe said, "We think there are two options: Either honor the results or hold new primary elections."

Since the existing results will not be honored, there will be a re-vote, to which the Clinton campaign says yes.

The Florida Democratic Party will be submitting a proposal to the DNC this week.

fair? anyone from Michigan want to take a crack at this?

yes...fair.

Of course it was fair. Hillary ran unopposed and finally cracked 50%. In Clinton-World, that's fair!

Clinton said. "The results of those primaries were fair and should be honored."

WHAT A JOKE! Only in the eyes of a Clinton would the current results be fair. Obama wasn't even on the ballot in MI. As a MI voter, I didn't even go to the polls, because I knew my vote didn't and wouldn't count! How is that fair? Wheter I wanted to vote for Obama or Clinton, it's not fair.
And as for the HUGE turnout in FL, why do the all mass medias seem to forget about the Property Tax Amendment on the Florida Primary ballots? This was an amendment that affected EVERY property owner in the state... of course they are going to turn out in huge numbers. But Clinton picked up votes on name recognition alone, while Obama was not allowed to even be introduced to the Fl people via a campaign is somehow fair and OK in the Clinton way of running a country.

In the end, this is not an issue against the candididates, people, or the DNC. This is a HUGE issue for the State leaders in FL and MI. The people of FL and MI should be outraged at their state leaders for allowing this to even happen in the first place. And not look at the DNC or the Candidates for blame, because that is NOT where the blame is. I think the people need to take a long hard look at their respective Governors and other state officials and demand answers, and not support them in the next election cycle. This is the real issue at hand and most of the Mass media is NOT reporting it this way. The only thing they seem to focus on is what Clinton or Obama think about a redo and why it makes one or the other look pety. Get your head out of the sand MSM, and report what the people need to hear.

O.k. Hillary really wants delegate should be seated, allocate 50% to each. or is she crying because she sees it advantageous, despite knowing well the rules which she agreed too.

We go to Iraq to show them how to vote. Big Joke when we can't have a vote ourselves that is honest. I live in MI and I say forget it. We can not afford it and even with the votes, it will not give either enough delegates.

I am for Obama, tho.

I agree wholeheartedly with "MI Engineer". The very bottom line here is this...EVERYONE in both states KNEW their votes would NOT count prior to the primary, and that the delegates would not be seated. This was NO surprise to anyone. In Michigan we were told by the press, media etc., that the candidates were TOLD to remove their names from the ballot by the DNC. Obama and Edwards did, but OF COURSE, Hillary did NOT. We were also told that in order to register a vote for either Obama or Edwards since they were NOT on the ballot, to vote "undecided". I am sure most people didn't even bother to go to the polls. Now, however, Hillary Clinton some how feels the results were fair?????????? She has snakes in her head. I personally do not believe the state should be allowed a re-do in any way shape or form or affirm Hillary's "WIN"

I'm tired of Hillary whining, conniving and manipulating. She is a FLIP FLOP candidate. She'll try to change the rules to do whatever suits her. In Nov. 2007 she said she was leaving her name on the Jan 2008 MI ballot because it wouldn't count anyways. Those were the rules that her friends MI Governor Granholm and MI Party Chair, Mark Brewer knowingly violated. They had all power to set the date in accordance with the DNC rules, esp. a Democratic Governor. The scheme to showcase Hillary at the onset of the primaries backfired assuming she'd win the MI primary. Now Clinton says it's fair and should be honored. Sure because she's lost nearly 30 races. She assumed the Clinton household name would automatically win her the prized nomination. She thinks the MI vote is fair? Does she not have a conscience? Can she even be honest with MI and the American people? It's too obvvious why she NOW wants these votes to count nearly 30 losses later. SHE'S DESPARATE and assumed she'd be on top since the Clinton Dynasty power machine was a household name, but her popularity alone hasn't work for the majority of Dem voters. Hillary, for all of us who know better, exercise integrity, the vote was not fair because tens of thousands of voters didn't vote because the vote wasn't going to count and they still don't. Furthermore, the write-in ballots with your key opponent's name nor Uncommitted were counted because they played by the rules. So, it's not fair. Are you above the rules because you're a Clinton? In your eyes maybe. But not in the eyes of honest Americans. If you are named the Democratic nominee, due to the influence of the mean Clinton power machine, hopefully not, let's put McCain's name on the ballot for the general election and leave yours off and when the votes are counted and he receives more votes, let's see if you feel that this was fair and the votes should be honored. I don't think so. You'll have a change of heart then won't you. This is among several reasons why it's time for CHANGE and your lack of honesty, integrity, low political personal blows and political greed has turned millions off about you. It has nothing to do with being a woman, but your gross arrogance and double standard. You are running this race for HILLARY, not the people. We are only a smokescreen. Bill got his shot. Now, Hillary wants in the driver's seat since you only got backseat driver last time.

Revotes sound good at first, but I can see a BIG problem with any state (like Michigan) that had OPEN primaries.

With Florida's closed primaries, it's easy to just mail ballots to all the state's Democrats. But with Michigan, who would you mail the ballots to? Since Republicans and Indepedents MAY have crossed over, do you include them in the revote? If not, you alter the outcome. If you do, how do you assure that someone who voted Republican in the first primary isn't going to take advantage of the opportunity to do a "Limbaugh" and vote again for Hillary, just to make things difficult?

I too agree with "MI Engineer". The pressure needs to be on the State party leaders that caused this mess. If a revote is allowed it means State officials will essentially go unpunished for breaking the rules. What will then stop other states in future primaries from doing the same thing?

The best solution is to seat the delegates 50/50. End of story. I realize that this is not the ideal situation for Hillary but can she really complain? She did agree in the first instance to not campaign in either state and she knew the votes would not count.

The media clearly wants a revote so they have something else to cover. What a joke.

I believe Antoine's comments are right on the mark. Why doesn't the Democratic Party just honor their first decision and learn from it? Or, does Hillary own the Democratic Party and the media, and, can change things as she goes along. I have a better solution - if Hillary wins the nomination, all those who would have voted for Obama should vote instead for McCain who certainly can't be worse than Hillary.
