Happy Mission Accomplished, John McCain
New DNC Web vid features an unfortunate 2003 clip of John McCain telling FOX News that "the major conflict is over" in Iraq. He said the Mission Accomplished banner hanging over President Bush's head five years ago today was "very appropriate."
It is a damning quote, indeed, but as Americans grow ever more concerned with the country's sputtering economy, it's still unclear if the Dems can turn McCain's support for the Iraq war into the albatross it would certainly be in a different political climate.
CAVUTO: ... Senator -- after a conflict means after the conflict, and many argue the conflict isn't over.
MCCAIN: Well, then why was there a banner that said mission accomplished on the aircraft carrier?
Look, the -- I have said a long time that reconstruction of Iraq would be a long, long, difficult process, but the conflict -- the major conflict is over, the regime change has been accomplished, and it's very appropriate...
In two weeks, General Franks is going to come before the Senate Armed Services Committee, and we're going to have his overall assessment of the conflict. I think that's entirely appropriate because we'll be -- we'll be taking up the needs of the Defense Department and the men and women in the military on the Armed Services Committee.
But I'm looking for an overall review of the conflict, what we did right, what we did wrong, and what the needs are, including the issue of weapons of mass destruction. I remain confident that we will find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

What political climate are you talking about? The one where 71% of the public thinks Bush is doing a bad job, or 63% of the public thinks the war was a mistake from the beginning?
What political climate could possibly make it hard for Iraq to be an albatross for McCain?
Thank you for the patronizing assumption that we Americans cannot have more than one concern in our brains at one time.
According to my JOY Cookbook, "Senate Bean Soup", a
simple but hearty navy bean soup, is served everyday in the United States Senate. Is it because "It's on the House," so to speak? Just wondered. By the way, the addition of a few shredded carrots improve
both the color and flavor of the recipe submitted to
the JOY Publishers.
Who had the idea for the prompt that said "no, not the fairy terrorists." Do you have any time left over in the day when your doing something FOR this country or is it all spent up on demoralizing it? Have you ever considered working for the taliban or other hate groups? They hate Hannity and the Fox team too.
