Hotline After Dark -- Not Your Average Joe

Last night's TV focused a lot on superdelegate/ex-DNC chair Joe Andrew switching his allegiance from Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama.

Andrew: "Well, I think the point I've made is we have a lot of important primaries yet to come. But after Tuesday, it is literally clearly mathematically impossible for either one of these candidates to become the nominee without the superdelegates. ... We need to rally around Barack Obama. ... You can be for somebody without being against the other person who's running. I don't think it's a question of many people moving away from Senator Clinton as it is that Barack Obama is a magnet" ("Countdown," MSNBC, 5/1).

CNN's J. King: "It is moderately significant. ... Number one, he's very well-liked and very well-respected inside the state of Indiana, which he says is his home. And, so, it could give Barack Obama a boost among Democratic activists there. Number two, it is one more, as Barack Obama tries to close the one place where Hillary Clinton still does have a lead, among the superdelegates. ... This, more than anything, is a sign that, guess what, there's also a lot of Clinton fatigue in the Democratic Party -- Joe Andrew giving voice to those who say, yes, maybe Barack Obama is not perfect, but the longer this goes on ... the more she's helping the Republicans" ("AC 360," 5/1).

Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer: "[It] tells you Democrats are calculating that there is no way the party will take the nomination away from Obama because it would split it in a way that would create a rupture that would last a generation. And they probably calculate that they're going to win this election anyway in such a heavily Democratic year. But I loved Andrew's performance. It was not just telling, it was entertaining the way he had a heavy heart in this abandonment" ("Special Report," FNC, 5/1).

Washington Post's Richburg: "If Bill Richardson out there in New Mexico was called Judas for his betrayal, I'm not quite sure what this is going to be called. ... It's fascinating on a couple of levels because he did this after this whole kind of controversy over Reverend Wright and he's somebody who knows the Clintons very well" ("Lou Dobbs Tonight," CNN, 5/1).

After the jump, HRC continues the TV rounds and Obama delivers "Top Ten" (KATHERINE LEHR).

I GOT YOU BABE

ABC's McFadden caught up with Clinton on the trail in IN.

Clinton, on Andrew switching his allegiance to Obama because he feels she is tearing the party apart: "I'm picking up momentum every single day. I think this has been good for the Democratic Party. ... Why anybody would want to short circuit that I don't understand, because I think it's giving us a very firm base to go into the fall election."

Asked if Andrew called her before the announcement: "No, I didn't hear from him. ... I haven't spoken to him. But anyone who believes this is bad for the party I just think is not paying attention" ("Nightline," 5/1).

And "O'Reilly Factor" aired part two of Clinton's interview with FNC's O'Reilly last night.

Clinton, on Iraq: "Our remaining in Iraq undermines our capacity to deal with all of our other problems. See, my shorthand is we need to end the war in Iraq and win the war in Afghanistan. I still believe that is the principal threat ... because it is the haven of the terrorists against us."

Asked if she will crack down on the sanctuary cities: "No, I'm not."

O'Reilly: "Whoa."

O'Reilly: "This is the most fun interview you've ever done, I know it is. I can just tell."

Clinton: "I was going to say, it's the most fun interview you've ever done."

O'Reilly: "No, I interviewed Cher one time. And that was just a blast" (FNC, 5/1).

SURPRISE!

Obama stopped by CBS' "Late Show" to deliver the "Top Ten Surprising Facts About Barack Obama." See it here.

Obama not being a "typical" politician is one of the most important things Joe Andrews said.

Obama has not run a win at any cost campaign. Obama has tried very hard not to attack Hillary, but everyone was telling Obama he had to in PA or he would look week. Andrew said he had also been like Clinton by using Karl Kove tactics, which was very diplomatic by not just attacking Hillary. Andrew said it is time to stop telling voters crazy things like the gas tax holiday just to win favor with the voters.

Hillary's husband approved a law that was a major contributor to Enron, oil/gas prices, and the housing loan mess. Congress has been holding hearings for several years about changing the law Bill Clinton approved, but they have not made any changes.

Has Hillary sponsored any bills to provide a gas holiday or anything else to help gas prices, She is making empty promises, which makes voters not believe anything a politican says.

We need more of this. Super delegates should stand up for truth, honest and integrity which Obama has in abundance. Obama has clearly run his campaign in a manner that cleary indicates the kind of presidency that he is going to have. This is also an indication that all the 'wright' and 'bitter' distractions are worthless and inconsequential and super delegates are very mcuh aware ot this. Good job Andrew.
