McCain Denounces Hagee

John McCain cut ties with Christian Pastor John Hagee today after learning that Hagee, during the 1990s, said Nazism reflected an expression of God's will.

“Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive and indefensible, and I repudiate them," McCain said in a statement issued to The Washington Post. "I did not know of them before Reverend Hagee's endorsement, and I feel I must reject his endorsement as well. I have said I do not believe Senator Obama shares Reverend Wright's extreme views. But let me also be clear, Reverend Hagee was not and is not my pastor or spiritual advisor, and I did not attend his church for twenty years. I have denounced statements he made immediately upon learning of them, as I do again today. “

And here's Hagee's letter, withdrawing his endorsement:

Dear XYZ,

Ever since I endorsed John McCain for president, people seeking to attack Senator McCain have combed my records for statements they can use for political gain. They have had no qualms about grossly misrepresenting my position on issues most near and dear to my heart if it serves their political ambitions.

I am tired of these baseless attacks and fear that they have become a distraction in what should be a national debate about important issues. I have therefore decided to withdraw my endorsement of Senator McCain for President effective today, and to remove myself from any active role in the 2008 campaign.

I hope that the Senator McCain will accept this withdrawal so that he may focus on the issues that are most important to America and the world.

As reported by The Washington Post, Hagee's comments were first posted on the website "Talk to Action" on May 15. They "draw from a biblical verse and imply that Adolf Hilter's actions had helped speed the creation of the state of Israel."

"'And they the hunters should hunt them,' that will be the Jews," Hagee said. "'From every mountain and from every hill and from out of the holes of the rocks.' If that doesn't describe what Hitler did in the holocaust, you can't see that."

What a load of cr_p. McCain didn't mind when Hagee called Catholicism a false religion, said Muslims were evil, told us God brought Katrina on us because of the gays or that 911 was divine retribution.

No, none of that was bad enough to reject the endorsement of this massive bigot. Talk about hypocrisy.

Wow....the monolithic, one dimensional, religious right wing voting base of the Republican Party are not going to like that. Their Taliban-like Ann Coulters, Jerry Falwells and John Hagees are the back bone of their voter base and these are the kind of people who will vote for any unqualified (like Bush) pathetic waste of skin. To get their vote, you have to claim to be pro-life (whatever that is even supposed to mean), claim to be Christian (and live opposite to Christ's teachings...Ann Coulter), claim to be conservative (and spend like there is no tomorrow), and mix religion with politics. If you are not in favor of turning the pages of American history back to the dark ages of the Salem Witch Craft Trials then it really is hard to get Republican votes. I guess McCain just commited political suicide by rejecting Hagee. Well...all is not lost. There are plenty more spineless, chicken hawk, fear and hate mongering reptiles in the the ranks of the Republican Party who are ready & willing to take his place.

Point is, it's not Hagee's extensive record of obscene comments that is the real newsmaker here...

It's MCCAIN'S horrendous judgment of ACTIVELY SEEKING OUT Hagee's endorsement that is the real story here. One that Democrats can and should address straight through November.

The whole "I didn't know" line is total BS. Anyone in McCain's camp could have googled Hagee and found a litany of deeply offensive statements.

It would be nice if the moonbats could be as tough and hateful on terrorists as they are on Republicans. But I guess that is wishful thinking.

McCain should not talk about anything about Obama's ex Pastor Wright when he has a controversal Pastor also. We should watch what we say because it could come back to bite you in the rear of your body part.

I can't even imagine why this election has become a war of pastors at every turn, and I'm getting tired enough of it that I am seriously considering not voting in Nov. Who cares about this stuff? I have sat in my church for years and cringed through enough sermons myselfbecause that's what a good Catholic is taught to do, and since I AM a Catholic, I can say what I want to without being called anti-Catholic (or can I?). I also have to cringe my way through conversations at times with just about all of my friends and family. This is just reality, folks, and so what? What does this have to do with the election at all? I think the best thing the candidates could do with this trash is just say it's nobody's business and move on to the real issues at hand.

John Johnson, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Obama still part of that church that cheers on pastors who damn America? Why hasn't Obama left that church?

Last I checked 9/11 happened on Bush's watch and Osama Bin Laden is still making videos for Youtube.

Your question is a good one, you just need to replace "Republicans" with "Democrats".

In fact, I've been wondering that same exact thing since 2001. How on Earth could we waste trillions in Iraq -- a country that never attacked us and didn't have WMDs -- while we've allowed Bin Laden to get away with the worst attack on the homeland in the history of this country.

Osama Bin Laden attacks the United States. Bush lets him get away. Then Bush invades and occupies a country for no reason for more than 5 years. It really boggles the mind. And then to have people like you come on blogs like this and whine about Democrats... It's frankly totally unbelievable to me.

We want the best equipment and services for our soldiers. Is that a waste a money? I'm sure to some people it is.

Saddam offered and gave sanctuary and support to terrorists including Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden. You are partially right. Iraq did not attack us on 9/11 in NYC. They just attacked us every day while we were patrolling the no fly zone.

>>>We want the best equipment and services for our soldiers

Who's we? Republicans? Whatta joke. Are you even remotely familiar with the circumstances of the Iraq War or the 109th Congress? Apparently not.

>>>Saddam offered and gave sanctuary and support to terrorists including Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden

You are delusional.

>>>They just attacked us every day while we were patrolling the no fly zone.

Osama Bin Laden kills 3,000+ on American soil and gets away. We have Iraq in a box... but we divert forces from Afghanistan, occupy them at the cost of 4,000+ lives of our best and bravest volunteer forces, trillions in treasury all because they shot at us? As I said. You are delusional, pal.

Btw, now Rod Parsely's endorsement of McBush has been rejected. That makes two in one day. Rumor has it that he is shopping for a new spiritual adviser, so any card-carrying Republican who can hold a microphone and has deeply-seeded bigotry against Blacks, Jews, Muslims, gays, atheists, or Democrats should contact the McBush hotline at: 1-800-4MO-WARS

Shot at us. Never abided by the terms of their surrender. Deliberately and actively concealed their WMD programs. Retained WMD staff, materials and facilities that allowed manufacture of WMDs within 2 weeks. Offered and gave sanctuary to Al-Qaeda members. Financially supported Hamas suicide bombers. Yeah, small things like that.

Heavy as they are, the costs of action must be weighed against the price of inaction. If Saddam defies the world and we fail to respond, we will face a far greater threat in the future. Saddam will strike again at his neighbors. He will make war on his own people.

And mark my words, he will develop weapons of mass destruction. He will deploy them, and he will use them.

Because we're acting today, it is less likely that we will face these dangers in the future.

One thing about the Wicked Witch I admire. She does not play the "I love Christianity" card to death. (But she has made racism an acceptable political position) Majority of religious right types are normal citizens trying survive to feed their families and gas their cars. Cable news loves this stuff, helps their ratings. I follow a simple rule always vote against the party/individual in power. Keep them from getting a hold of the gravy train; train them like dogs to obey the commands of the citizens. That's why the unwashed have to VOTE. We have survived the cynical Roverian era. Another year of Roverian policies, we would have been building camps for political dissidents.

Do you mean the Saddam who was hung and nearly decapitated while followers of Shiia extremist Moqtada Al Sadr rejoiced?

Or a different Saddam?

Haha. I wouldn't respond to an ignoramus like you with any hope of intellectual debate. It's just kinda fun watching you spin your 5+ year-old outdated propaganda. What else ya got?

The Reverend John Hagee has one of the most profound understandings of the Bible, Other than Dr.Charles Stanley,That I know of.Every major Event,Including the Holocaust, has and will continue to be prophesised in the word of God.If the ignorant and uneducated cannot see that we are living in the last days,I pray for you.Yes the Katrina disaster was a modern day Sodom and Ghomora.God will not sit back and watch heathens and demons destroy what his son gave his life for.

Jesus Christ paid for our souls with his own blood. He will not settle for less than he paid for.

Sorry I'm confused. Jesus was the Son of God. He did not have to pay for anything. He owns our souls.Stop characterizing Jesus with human weaknesses. Understand that the Father and the Son are beyond this BS. Beyond human writing, beyond the spiritual. God does not reside in a book. God lives in your heart and soul.

God must have a big grin reading the hell and fire types. God as an ideology, rather that God as a faith in the goodness of His creations. God must laugh his head off hearing the noise from 15,000 auditorium air conditioned church palaces. Kinda like the noise you hear from a professional sport arena praising some kid making 20 million a year while an ER nurse make 42K a year cleaning up your parents body fluids, and preachers have private jets to their Palm Spring condos.

God can see through that smug BS. He's checking out the single mom buying $4 gas, cutting down on food so she can drive to serfdom jobs. I'm not a Liberal neither a Tory. I'm a pragmatic. The boys who wrote the Bill of Rights must freak hearing these holier than thou types. Be careful, God is not angry at America, he's pissed at the liars using His reputation for their own agendas.
