Obama Resigns Church Membership
ABERDEEN, SD – Barack Obama resigned his membership at Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ, campaign Comm Dir. Robert Gibbs today confirmed.
The resignation came just over a month after Obama denounced his former pastor and friend the Rev. Jeremiah Wright after the pastor made a series of controversial comments seen as unpatriotic and divisive and just days after new that another long-time Obama associate, the Rev. Michael Pfleger had delivered a sermon ridiculing Hillary Clinton from the church’s pulpit. Both men's comments were captured on video.

He has been spending more time in Washington DC ...and likely will be there exclusively in the future and I expect has been checking out churches in Washington DC for that reason ANYWAY. Its obvious that he thought it best to resign from it now rather than later ...
No Matter what, Obama will still be critcized. He has been criticized for what other people (who want media attention) say. He had the misfortune of being a member of a church, where it appears that the only things talked about on a consistent basis is what the government is or is not doing; what political candidates are or are not doing.
This is pathetic. He can talk about the issues for always having to answer for what someone else says or has done. He has been blamed for "playing the RACE card"; among a whole lot of other asinine(sp) things. The American public and Media both need to grow up. Face the fact that change is coming, whether or not Obama gets the democratic nomination or elected President, things in this country are going to change.
I have read several blogs; seen numerous news telecasts and the bottom line is, RACISM does exist in America. Just say what you mean, mean what you say, stop making excuses about experience or what someone else said and just come to the realization that most Americans in 2008 will not vote for Barack Obama simply because he is a person of color. For most back-wood, uneducated "folks", he stands for everything they resent. A product of a Black/White union!!!

It is absolutely amazing to me that now, at this critical juncture in his political campaign, Obama has decided to resign from his church of 20 years. It is a one hundred percent certainty that his long time pastor and other associates did not just all of a sudden started spouting sermons that some find objectionable. Where was Sen. Obama's sensibility for the last 20 years?? If the remarks of the last few months have offended him, where the hell has he been for the last several years? I guess now that he is running for the Whitehouse, it's just inconvenient. This latest move should tell everyone plenty about Obama's true character. If he truly believes what he says, he would have been offended by the remarks of this paster years ago - but he wasn't - draw your own conclusions.
This is too little too late. Maybe when Obama entered the
presidental race, cutting himself off from his church,would have been the right move. By now
no matter what he says, the 20 or so years of his history
with this racism institution is going to cost him votes, and
likely the election. We need change, but not into a racially
charged environment.
It is curious that for a well-spoken person, Obama has such
foul-mouthed mentors and friends of dubious character. And lacked the insight and nerve to distance himself 20 years ago.
This is not the stuff Presidents should be made of.
Yes he is damned by association to unsavory associates, because
each outburst by one of his former friends and mentors is not an isolated issue. The more we see the worse it gets.
Leaving the chuch does not undo his past close association
with criminals and racists.
Give us Hillary or even McCain. I support Hillary
and will likely stay home if she isn't the democratic candidate.

Let's be clear.
Obama's resignation at this conjecture ( DNC gift of sone uncommitted votes,
the new disaster in his church) that he is a cold calculated character ready to do anything for the run to WH.
Although he believes that this issue is over he's mistaken because this too late resignation paints
-- his propensity toward deflect and deceit,
-- his ineffective explanations of being member of that church for 20 years
-- his lack of disclosure of his dealings with the catholic father ( moneys, friendship)
-- his attempt of covering up as much as possible
-- his anger as being distracted by the COLLECTIVE criticism
-- his fear that more will be reveleled!
In a sad note, it seems that his pastor Wright was right when he said :
"I(Wright) do what a pastor does, and Obama does what the politicians do"!
Consequently Obama's anger when parting ways with his pastor was not real, it was calculated!
Chameleon? It might very well be.

Pat darling fear politics are so seven years ago. You want to know what's scary? Gas prices *gasp* If YOU are scared then keep it to yourself. We should all get right because that's where we need to be...also if he wanted to destroy everything he should have done it before Bush got his hands on it. Obama is NOT the ANTICHRIST, THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST or any other inhuman title republicans and clintonians throw at him. He's a man who admits to being just that. A man, with a vision to help middle class america realize they can achieve what they WORK for...I know its not "sexy" but there is NO Kool-Aid, no hidden conspiracy plot. He is a family man who has consistently (hard to find that in other candidates as of late)...let me repeat: CONSISTENTLY expressed (even at a town meeting here locally) that he first prays to GOD about his decision making, he believes that Jesus Christ is the son of God and died for our sins. If you listen to his answers on personal preferences such as church, he says "Michelle and I..." He is a man that is convicted to do what is right and willing to work with other people to achieve that. He may not have been in the Senate as long as the others, but his ability to get other Senators to co-sign his proposals puts the more seasoned candidates to shame. He has a solid policy, and is not so "set in his ways" that he won't listen to the people Bush fired when they offered a differing opinion. He's just a man, that happens to be the best choice for president.

What a hypocrite. Selective "good judgement". I really would like to know through what rat hole all of the money going to BHO is being funneled.
Well he can quit the church but you can't undo 20 years. This man is flawed, however he has David Axelrod who has taken the staff of the herder Karl Rove and made herding the masses over a cliff into an art form. Shame on you for allowing yourself to be blindly led by this jug eared figurehead (he has that in common with Bush as well).
There are many of us who would vote for Sen Clinton who will NEVER VOTE FOR OBAMA, because we see past the hype, we SEE he is flawed, inexperienced at real world politics (not just Chicago street fighting politics) and a clueless hypocrite and a liar. (one of many: He was not a constitutional professor, he was a lecturer on leave). No matter what the press gives him a pass , that alone would make me not vote for him. It reminds me of the lead up to Iraq, the press gave pass after pass to the administration and attacked those who questioned the facts. Not again, we have had enough of wolf in sheep's clothing, enough of a "uniter" who prevails by dividing. ENOUGH!!! WE ARE NOT ALL SHEEP FOR BAAAAARACK.
Barack Obama finally gave up on his church. He did not have the influence and leadership that many think he has to help those people out and guide them towards true change we can belive in. And we think he can do the same for us? His church, his community, of 20 years and he just simply gave up on it and abandoned it because he was afraid. Will he do the same if he is president? Just give up on big issues. A true leader would have been passionate and dedicated for making change and not simply giving up. Barack has no passion no dedication and no emotion. He also has no faith he is just lucky people like him because he is young black man which sonds much cooler than an old woman. He is also lucky people actually think that he is capable of making CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN while he has not shown any signs of making this change happen so far.
Obama's political skirt is showing ... he claims to want to stop or change politics as usual. This was the ultimate political move and motivation.
He thinks by quitting the church "now" will have people believe he doesn't agree with the Trinity Church beliefs.
If he didn't agree with the church's philosophy and rhetoric - he would have left there a long time ago - say 20 years ago or so. Is he not very bright or does he think American's aren't?
Either way, he certainly isn't someone I would choose to run this country.
Innocuous my eye ... he's one to preach a good bit but doesn't seem to practice anything he says or preaches about. Harmless/inoffensive - hardly. The sermon at that church was meant to ridicule and demean an outstanding citizen and candidate for president. SHAME ON TRINITY CHURCH and all the parishioners who stayed in their pews instead up getting up and walking out.
While there may indeed be prejudice and racism in this country. It seems rare to find it being professed from the pulpit. Hagee, Rev. Wright, now Rev. Michael Pfleger, a Catholic priest - maybe it's more common than I think. It just hasn't been my experience or choice to pick a church which promotes or preaches racism/prejudice or hate and they don't seem that hard to find.
Maybe someone should send him a list of "politically" approved churches he may want to attend.
CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN - I'm not sure I believe he will change. Very unlikely. He's becoming more and more what he professes to hate - POLITICS AS USUAL .....
