This provactive New Yorker cartoon debuted over the weekend and immediately sparked a fury of discussion in the political world. It, of course, parodies all the stereotypes, bunk and rumors dogging the Obamas, but does it go too far in making the point? Barack Obama's campaign was none too pleased. Per CNN: "The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Sen. Obama's right-wing critics have tried to create," Obama spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement. "But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree."

Readers ... your thoughts?

This is nothing compared to the satire Hillary and Bill Clinton had to endure during their political careers. Why is this satire such a shock? Obama is running for president and his supporters should expect this. This is pretty lame actually.

William, this is not about the Clintons. This is pretty lame, but that's not the point.

Basically this is an attempt at satire that failed miserably, in no small part because the target of the satire isn't there. Were this presented on a Fox News TV screen, or in a thought bubble from some rabid right winger, or whatever it might have been satire.

As it is presented, however, it's simply a caricature of the right wing nut attacks. It's not satire, just well drawn.

Someone obviously never saw this cover.

Bottom line: Satire based on racial or sexist stereotypes never work. It's a lame cover.

But it's mild compared to what they may face down the long road. Welcome to Election 2008.

Just ask the Clintons.

Actually, not very well drawn...Barack's head is way bigger than Michelle's. I would think for the sake af satire, they would be about the same size.

This is just an ill-concieved flub. I've already seen the cover 20 times and not read the article. Do you think other folks will see the cover and not read the article? Ya think?

Get some disipline Libs...you're right wing roadkill.

For some people, everything is about the Clintons, and I was one of those people. For the gal 105%. I've moved on, however. It's time others did as well. The Clinton clingers are getting more than a bit pathetic.

It's a joke, they're mocking the Fox News "terrorist fist bump" thing. It's the New Yorker.

I remember after 9/11 there was a New Yorker cover that was an Arab guy driving a taxi that was just covered in American flags. It was funny. Let it go.

I dunno. The first thing that came to mind for me was "All in the Family." Was this an attempt to put all these stereotypes out front so they could be parodied? Nevertheless, not very well-done.

It is pretty accruate satire to me and rather entertaining...

They would be indicted by the insensitivity police in Europe.

I'm looking forward to next week's satirical New Yorker cover -- a tottering old McCain dressed up in his old POW uniform chasing kids off his lawn while simultaneously trying unsuccessfully to use a computer, singing "Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran," calling his wife vile names, and kissing the butts of the religious zealots he used to criticize. Of course while this is going on, secret Vietnamese radio waves will be beaming Manchurian candidate instructions into his brain.

That would be funny satire of the McCain mythology too, right?

It would actually be funny if it weren't for the hyper-politicization of EVERYTHING by the Bush Admin and GOP.

Including the ASSOCIATED PRESS.

This is a passage from the Pat Tillman/Jessica Lynch report, page 21, re: a convo between AP Washington Bureau Chief Ron Fournier and Karl Rove:

"""""Karl Rove exchanged e-mails about Pat Tillman with Associated Press reporter Ron Fournier, under the subject line "H-E-R-O." In response to Mr. Fournier's e-mail, Mr. Rove asked, "How does our country continue to produce men and women like this," to which Mr. Fournier replied, "The Lord creates men and women like this all over the world. But only the great and free countries allow them to flourish. Keep up the fight." """""

So now we know why the AP coverage has been so harsh on Obama and so insanely light on McSame. They have a plant in charge of the Washington AP bureau.

Disgusting. Our country is no longer free.

THANKS RIGHT WING. THANKS A LOT.

Its funny that no one in this country can take a joke. Lighten up America before you all stroke out. Have a cerveza.
