Lampoon It

The New Yorker's Ryan Lizza, author of this week's cover story, on his mag's much-discussed cover:

"There are two ways that you can deal with lies and information, one way is through a lot of careful reporting ... another way ... is through political satire, and that's what this cover was about. It was trying to show the absurd view of this guy."

"The standard is not, 'Will everyone get it?'" Lizza added.

That's wonderful Ryan.

But when is the NYer going to run the cover of John McCain kissing Dick Cheney's rear-end while shoving American troops into the meat-grinder of Iraq. Accompanied by his beer-baron trust-fund wife patting a "poor African child" on the head while credit cards spill out of her Louis Vutton purse. To complete the picture, a framed portrait of George W. Bush on the wall, and the Constitution and Federal Budget in the fireplace.

I can't wait for that. I love satire.

Our press is basically done. Gone. Bought. The 4th Estate is no more. We are on our own. The people against the fascist unitary executive form of government.
