Daddy Yankee Endorses

PHOENIX, AZ – At his wife's high school alma mater today, John McCain made a push for the youth vote with an endorsement from Puerto Rican Reggaeton star Daddy Yankee – real name, Ramon Ayala. The campaign called a "press conference" in the Central High School library where Yankee – who McCain called Ramon – announced his support for McCain.

"I'm here endorsing Senator McCain because I believe in his ideas and his proposal to lead this nation," Yankee said, as high school girls swooned on a riser behind him. "And like I said before, he's been a fighter for the Hispanic community and I know that me personally, I choose him as the best candidate because he's a fighter for the immigration issue. So for me he's the best guy to lead this nation."

Yankee is most famous for his song "Gasolina," which translates to 'gasoline' but has nothing to do with offshore drilling or McCain's energy policy mantra, "Drill here, drill now."

A rough translation of the song's chorus, "A ella le gusta la gasoline - dame mas gasoline," shows that Yankee might be singing about a different kind of 'gasoline' than McCain talks about on the stump. The singer proclaims, "My babe doesn't stop from hanging out because she likes gasoline," to which a female singer echoes, "give me more gasoline."

Although the campaign told the press corps that today's event was going to be a 'press conference,' it turns out that the only members of the media who might have had the opportunity to ask McCain questions were reporters from the school's paper. As McCain and Yankee shook hands following the endorsement, students were funneled towards the musician by the senator, receiving a quick, "Sup papa" or "How you doin' lady," as they shook Yankee's hand.

The only reference McCain made to the Dem convention beginning in Denver tonight was a vague compliment directed towards his opponent.

"This is a tough presidential campaign we're in," McCain said. "I have a very honorable opponent, and one who will receive the nomination of his party this week in Denver. And I look forward to the last couple months of the campaign with him."

McCain has not spoken to the press since August 13 in Birmingham, MI – the day his wife sprained her wrist at a fundraiser.

Gasolina is slang for male sexual excretion.

Yes. That's what John McCain trotted out in front of HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS.

This is an absolute abomination.

Check out some lyrics:

I'll give you a hint, they are lude and filled with slang about SEX and GANGS.

Code words like: El Cartel, Jefe, Gangsta, Glock, Mafioso, King. All gang codes.

I was watching cspan when this came on and my jaw dropped to the floor. This is a HUGE mistake by McCain.

Watch it for yourself. Click the headline: "Sen. John McCain Rally with Musician Daddy Yankee"

I'm still in shock. Couldn't be FURTHER from Presidential. It is a disgrace.

Ethan's comments are obviously partisan Democrat behavoir. Most people have never heard of Daddy Yankee. The idea that some of his lyrics are equivalent to the scads of offensive things said by Obama supporters (especially about McCain himself) is absurd.

I'll smack Ethan a little more. What style R&R or R&B isn't sexual innuendo? You sound like my sweet italian grandmother back in '58 ragging on Elvis.
Worse yet, your comments are typical DNC racist claptrap. No one is more racist in America today than liberal democrats.
Get a life dude.

If you idiots would approve of this behavior with your own teenage daughter then that's your choice.

But in larger context you certainly must realize that it proves that your Christian Right "morality" is total bull.

I already knew that your morality was a front and a fraud, but thanks for confirming it for me. Hypocrites.

What's more, both this false morality AND tacit approval of gang lyrics and misogynistic lyrics are BOTH purposeful strategies designed for no other reason than to win votes.

The fact that you stoop to this level JUST to win votes for the Office of the President of the United States is nauseating. It is particularly loathsome at a time when our country has so many problems -- 80% of the country thinks we are on the wrong track. Frankly, it is downright scary that you would sink this low just for a few votes.

So go ahead and keep "smacking me" but the fact is, your candidate is a disgrace and you have nothing to say about it but whining pathetic immature amateur finger-pointing vitriol. Good luck with all that.

Looks like McCain got a lot more than he bargained for, in his quest to be seen with celebrities.

It may have also been in violation of Arizona State law to use school ground for political purposes. But that part is a tiny little aspect of the hot water John McCain has just stepped into.

It's quite enjoyable, watching this man self-destruct. You people should have voted for Romney. Oh well.

Hey, don't be sad, there's always Bob Barr.
Losers.

Have a nice day.

I think it's great to see celebrities expressing their opinions.

Gee Ethan see a therapist dude. Do you really believe one side over the other. They are all just doing it for the votes. These people have been around for years doing nothing. Teddy has been in office for over forty years, he is going to be one of the changes we can believe in. they are all career politicions, thats what they do, thats all they do. They have no trouble being associated with celebrities because they believe that they are the tru celebrities. They will say what ever they have to say to get the vote. they do what ever they have to do to get the vote. there are no winners. we all lose. Wait and see.

Dale, when you look at Barack Obama's detailed plans for improving the country, do you really still have the view that he's only in it for votes?

That is the clear difference between the campaigns.

Barack Obama is working very hard to prove to voters that he has the strength of leadership and the intelligence to solve our many problems.

He is earning voters' trust. One-at-a-time if need be. Democrats, Independents, and Republicans alike.

And I think America is finally beginning to understand that his competence and his vision are exactly what are needed to first put the American economy back on track and then restore America's greatness and leadership around the world.
