DENVER -- After a rousing speech, a plain plea to Democrats for unity, did Hillary Clinton say the magic words that could convince her supporters that Barack Obama is ready to be president?
Certainly, Clinton made clear that she is supporting him, that they share policy values and a commitment to Democratic ideals. She said her supporters haven't worked so hard over the last 18 months to "suffer through more failed leadership."
"No way, no how, no McCain," she bellowed, offering up a slam dunk applause line.
Obama, Clinton said, is her candidate, "and he must be our President."
But Clinton's endorsement of Obama's abilities -- his leadership skills, fitness, judgment and experience -- was lacking. She didn't say that those with lingering doubts about a politician who was a state senator just four years ago should rest assured.
And John McCain's camp took note, issuing a statement just moments after she wrapped her remarks: "Nowhere tonight did she say that Barack Obama is ready to lead. Millions of Hillary Clinton supporters and millions of Americans remain concerned about whether Barack Obama is ready to be President."
Clinton's speech was strong and gracious, a reaffirmation of the historic nature of her campaign, and her place in history. In many ways, however, it felt more like a reminder of what could have been had she been the nominee -- what one day might still be -- than a passion-filled endorsement of her onetime Dem rival.
Mentioning that today marks the 88th anniversary of the 19th amendment, which provided women with the right to vote, Clinton reminded convention-goers of another extraordinary woman of history, Harriet Tubman, who helped others to freedom. Clinton recalled Tubman's advice to slaves traveling the Underground Railroad -- that they should trudge on no matter what -- and she concluded, in an almost personal revelation:
"Even in the darkest of moments, ordinary Americans have found the faith to keep going."

Hillary brought me to tears tonight, literally. She is an unstoppable force and is truly a lady in every sense of the word.
I am a recent widow with a young child. The past 8 years have been a spiral downward. My husband's untimely death from a heart attack was brought on to a large degree from stres. Stress trying to make ends meet, from watch everything we worked so hard for be taken away piece by piece, he had to closed a business he owned for many years and worked so hard for in order to forfill his dream and take care of his family. The trend of Bush politics has taken its toll to a degree on the majority of us.
Hillary restored my faith this evening, both politically and personally. She has no idea the miracle she worked this evening. She has restored my will to fight again, and I have not felt this way is such a long time, I had even forgotten what it felt like.
Obama should be ashamed of himself, no disrespect to Biden, for not asking Hillary to be the VP. you did yourself and the country a great disservice. I guess this is why he was the nation's second choice, but still he got the nomination. Time to make all elections determined based purely on the popular vote only. Look at the result, 8 years of Bush and now Obama.
I will vote for Obama, half heartedly, like millions will do now due to Hillary and her outstanding speech and message tonight=vote for the party Democratic Party !!!!

I may not be an American but like Warner says this American elections are about the future and change.America is a super power and the kind of policies it makes do not only affect Americans themselves but the entire world.Being a super power comes with responsibility.I look at Iraq and i believe there could have been a better way of doing things. Many lives have been lost rather than saved. The Bush administration has tarnished America's image and continues to do so.In the outside world people see Americans as double standard people and extortionists who only do things for their own interests rather than making the world a better place. We need leaders like Bill Clinton who not only brought Americans together but the whole world together.A president who is humane but a strong leader at the same time.I have a great admiration for Democrats presidents and their foreign policies. The truth is America will not stay at the top if it does not embrace change.Twelve more years of Republicans !!! that will be something if not disastrous.America vote not for a racist America but for a unified and prosperous nation. I have a great admiration for American politics and their level of maturity. I hope my country's politics will reach that level of maturity and embrace true democracy. Obama we know you are capable. You are a great man.I have not seen such charisma in leaders for a long time. Do not give up the fight pull up your guns and show them what DEMOCRATS are made of.
Democrats remember a unified party is a strong party.
Democrat supporter forever.

That would be lying because he doesn't have those strengths. And I don't think Hillary could bring herself to lie even for the sake of unity.
Wake me up when the Democrats get on the same page in an effort to elect the Democrat whom much of America believes is the only Democrat competent enough to run the nation -- a Clinton.
I didn't stop listening to the Democratic Party; the Democratic Party stopped listening to me.
FACTS:
~ Hillary: 18 million votes, NH, NM, NV, PA, OH, MI, FL, AR, TN, TX ...
~ Obama: 18 million votes, Kansas...
~ Biden: 18 thousand votes, ...
The Democrats were willing to vote the ever-incompetent Nancy Pelosi to the third highest office in the land -- but they weren't able to find a way to elect the ever-competent Hillary Clinton to the first or second highest office?
What a bunch of idiots.
Jan,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Republican Party elect George W. Bush and Dick Cheney?
Yeah. Ya did. TWICE! A duo that have done more damage to America and American interests than any other people in U.S. history.
The day the GOP voters hold the National Republican Party Leadership accountable even one iota...
The day the GOP voters stop blaming Democrats for problems caused by a Republican President and a GOP Congress (followed by a GOP obstructed Congress)...
Shoot, the day the GOP voters vote for their own self-interest over corporate interests...
...Is the day when people like you can even BEGIN to earn back your credibility.
I'm not holding my breath.
So go vote for the Insanely Rich and shut the hell up.
E.
Can you define at what level someone becomes "insanely rich"? Just want to know where I stand.
