Team Obama On Palin: "Zero Foreign Policy Experience"
Barack Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton on John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate:
"Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies -- that's not the change we need, it's just more of the same."

Scrubbed from the AK Gov website:
Palin Pleased with Obama's Energy Plan
No. 08-135
August 4, 2008, Fairbanks, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin today responded to the energy plan put forward by the presumptive Democratic nominee for President, Illinois Senator Barack Obama.
“I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska’s natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs,” Governor Palin said. “The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs.”
In a speech given in Lansing, Michigan, Senator Obama called for the completion of the Alaska natural gas pipeline, stating, “Over the next five years, we should also lease more of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska for oil and gas production. And we should also tap more of our substantial natural gas reserves and work with the Canadian government to finally build the Alaska natural gas pipeline, delivering clean natural gas and creating good jobs in the process.”
Governor Palin also acknowledged the Senator’s proposal to offer $1,000 rebates to those struggling with the high cost of energy.

In fact, the entire website has been taken down.

Palin was incompetent as a mayor of Wasilla, increased taxes, unanswered questions
Palin was mayor of Wasilla from 1996 to 2002. Her record during that time can tell us a lot about her. The biggest deal during her tenure is perhaps the construction of the sports complex that was built on someone else's land. She had to raise sales taxes to pay for it. The whole episode of incompetence, arrogance, and lack of respect for the law is exactly the style of governance that we've seen from Bush and co in the past seven years.
The $15 million multi-use indoor ice arena was supposed to be her legacy as the mayor. This was a very big deal for a city that had a budget of $3.9 million in 96 (increased to $5.8 million in 2002). Although the city subsidy has gone down from the initial $600k per year to about $125k per year, the sports complex still does not break even.
The biggest problem, however, was the process of how the land was acquired. The whole thing was handled with exceptional incompetence and arrogance, ultimately costing the city an extra $1.7 million in settlement and court cost for a piece of land that would have costed only $125k if they had handled it right from the beginning in 1998.
This involved a developer by the name of Gary Lundgren. Here is the whole scoop:
Lundgren negotiated with the national office of The Nature Conservancy to buy the land. Meanwhile, Wasilla city officials decided they wanted the land too, and began negotiating with the Alaska office of The Nature Conservancy. Offers were extended to both parties. Lundgren closed the deal.
Without the title in their hands, the city went ahead with the sales tax increase and started the construction. Then in typical Bush fashion, as Palin was leaving office in 2002,
Wasilla sued both Lundgren and The Nature Conservancy for title to the land. The case went to a federal appeals court, where Lundgren won rights to the property.
The court case was finally settled several years after Palin left.
The real legacy is, that the city is still paying for this today, while having to cut budget in library service, postponing capital improvement projects, and raising fees.
She is McCain's brownie!
Palin is opposed to abortion even in cases of rape and incest.
No way, now how, no Palin!!
How can a person who was a part-time mayor of a remote Alaskan village of 5,000 be ready to step in to run this country in the eventuality that McCain can no longer perform those duties? McCain is 72 and has a long history of cancer.
Give me a break!
How can a guy who never had a job other than "community organizer" be president? She has more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined. She has been commander in chief of a National Guard. What have they commanded? Elect Obama and we will need a lot more community organizers as business exits the country for more appreciative shores.
The first comment out of the Obama campaign is an attack! What a total classless dick!
No way, No how, No-Bama!
"the former mayor of a town of 9,000"
Didn't Obama make a comment about small town voters being bitter and "cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them."
Watch out, Barack--Sarah's got a gun.
I am just LMAO over this. And please, let's not deride the choice of Palin. Not too long ago, VA Gov. Tim Kaine was considered a serious, credible choice for Obama's running mate and he was elected the same year as Palin. The GOP will be all over that double standard.
I have been "vetting" Governor Palin for the last 3 or 4 months - ever since her name came up on the "long" list. I can tell you that from what I have learned she is the real conservative deal and because she's on the ticket I will change my vote from a write in vote of Duncan Hunter Sr. to John McCain.
Sarah Palin is someone that every Conservative should fall in love with. I don't care if she's unknown. She stands for everything I believe in. With her as VP and a number of new, young and energetic Republicans running out there this is a chance for a revitalization of the Republican party. I've already sent McCain my 25 bucks this morning - something I didn't expect to do.
Now if McCain would cut Juan Hernandez loose I'd be a very happy camper.
What's not to love in Sarah Palin? Only the brain dead looney left would turn this wonderful candidate into a target. Pathetic!
What I like best is that she is anti-babykiller!
Is this some more of that good old "new"(!) Politics of Personal Ridicule that we've come to expect from the hypocrites in the Obama camp?
I see Obama hasn't learned how to talk to rural voters yet either.
This comment should go over really well in rural America, where we've been told that anyone could grow up to be Vice President, even mayors from small towns in Alaska.
I guess it's okay when BHO plays the fear-mongering card --
It appears that Obama is running on the promise that McCain's going to die in office now.
wow.
And isn't BHO running for President, not Vice President?
What Bill Burton should recognize that we all know who the woman the Democrats put into power just two heartbeats away from the Presidency --
and the woman they hand-picked to have this power, Nancy Pelosi, has a lower approval rating than Bush does!
Flyover-The national guard of Alaska gives her foreign policy and commander in chief creds?? Are you kidding?? Maybe McCain should have tapped you for his running mate
A REAL AMERICAN AS VICE PRESIDENT?? WHAT A NOVEL IDEA!! This was brilliant on McCain's part!! A young governor with executive experience; a Mom with five kids -- one enlisted in the US Army, and another with Downs Syndrome -- ; a husband who is a member of the union, and a TRUE WORKING PERSON; a true Washington outsider; a woman who is intelligent and TOUGH, and PROVEN that she can oust 'good old boys' when they break ethical standards; a reformer; a woman who has worked and succeeded in real jobs, and been responsible for a payroll; a conservationist; and wants this country to become energy independent!! She is also young enough that she will be a FORCE for years to come.
To BOOT—she would not accept the “BRIDGE TO NO WHERE” and advised the Congress if Alaska needed a bridge, Alaska would build it!!
From the initial reaction of the democrat spin monkeys, she has them VERY concerned, if not SCARED! Their initial demeaning of her serving as a mayor was a far cry from the top of their ticket being a community organizer! At least – SHE WAS ELECTED! Think they now regret their tasteless comments … demeaning at best – sexist at worst!
She does not ‘talk about change’, SHE MAKES CHANGES HAPPEN!! Rather than talking the talk as many have done in this campaign, Palin has (past tense) WALKED THE WALK!
Sure that there are many Democrats who heard her speak in Dayton were asking themselves, "WHY DID WE NOT HAVE HILLARY ON THE TICKET?" Think that the Democrats have -- once again -- outsmarted themselves. Her speaking ability will challenge that of Obama. SHE IS STRONG!!
Think that Sen Biden best brush up on his debating skills -- HE WILL NEED THEM!! (Someone also needs to tutor the man with ‘experience’ on US Army organizations – specifically the difference between a ‘battalion’ and a ‘brigade’. Sure would not want this ‘experienced' guy giving the commander-in-chief military advice!)
Believe that McCain came a step closer on winning the presidency on August 29, 2008!
PALIN IS MORE IMPRESSIVE THAN I EVER IMAGINED!
Sarah Palin was in over-her-head as Governor of Alaska. Wasilla's population was no more than 5,000 during her two terms in office as Mayor.
McCain must be on a path of both self destruction and the destruction of the Republican Party for the next eight (8) years. The man had bad jusgement and he picked a running mate with equally bad judgement. Well Alaska doesn't have to worry as Governor Palin will return the first week in November after loosing the presidential bid. Having her one heart beat away from the presidency is just unbelievable.
I hate to break it to all of you who claim to be pro-life: you can't be pro-life and pro war. It's okay to kill Iraqi babies and children, but not to end a pregnancy? Give me a flipping break. Pro life is a misnomer and a crock of crap.
Oh yeah, and her denying the bridge to nowhere only happened after the feds told her she'd have to pay more than she wanted, she was all for it when someone else was footing the bill.
Obama's twisted logic that merely running for office provides him with the qualifications, experience and credentials to perform in that office, is as laughable as his twisted logic that a whirlwind 9 day, six country, overseas photo op qualifies him as an expert on foreign policy. Obama is an empty suit who is obviously trying to create the illusion that he is something that he is not. If its a choice between an experienced mayor and Governor, with an approval rating of 80% for V.P. versus. a community organizer, and junior senator, who spent most of his time in office running for President ... I choose Palin. No Wright, no Farrakahn, no Ayers, no Rezko, no mean Michelle, NOBAMA
Let’s be fair here, Palin and Obama have about the same amount of experience. He’s been in the Senate about the same time she has been governor. The population of Alaska is small, but she also has actual executive experience. What McCain did was take the “experience” issue off the table. Now neither side can criticize the other without sounding hypocritical themselves. Now can we please put aside the petty insults and partisan bickering and get back the issues?
