The "Babe" Factor

RNC icon (2).gif

Strong conservative credentials? Foreign Policy experience? A reputation for bucking the political establishment? Forget all that: What matters for some in the political world is that Sarah Palin - a cross between the actress in the “Hot for Teacher" video and Tina Fey—is a brilliant choice because she’s a babe. That’s right; she basically bedazzled the ticket with glitter, sequins, and a twirling baton in the form of an elk hunting rifle.

Here’s a sampling of the chatter over Palin’s many “qualifications” for the job:

Rush Limbaugh: “We’re the ones with the babe on our ticket” -- (CNN, 8/29).

Jimmy Ng, a retired member of the Coast Guard: “She is a strong woman who can wear a skirt and be proud of it” (New York Times, 8/31).

Newsweek’s Karen Breslau: “As a journalist, and a female one at that, I am embarrassed to admit that the first thing that struck me about her was that she's so, well, striking” (Newsweek.com. 8/30).

CNN's Paul Begala: "She's a charming person. She's well spoken. She's attractive “(CNN, 8/29).

FNC’s Juan Williams: “I hope I'm not offending anybody in saying that she's a very attractive woman” (“Fox News Sunday,” 8/31).

Dan Quayle Speechwriter Lisa Schiffren: “She is a serious athlete” (Washington Post, 8/30).

TX GOP delegate Patti Johnson: “She's beautiful to look at. The men are going to love her. She hunts. She fishes” (Houston Chronicle, 8/29).

CNN’s Joe Johns: “I found her to be very funny, very charming” (“AC 360,” CNN, 8/29).

David Gergen: “Joe Johns is right; she seems very, very attractive” (“AC 360,” CNN, 8/29).

Meanwhile, Geraldine Ferraro, said she hoped the choice of Palin wouldn't bring sexism back into the campaign, adding later: "I have always said that I wish I would have never been the only woman, until now” (CNN, 8/29).

The bottom line is McCain is 72 year old and has health problems and could die today or tomorrow! When this sinks in and people start to reflect and consider what a President Palin REALLY means due to her very real lack of national and international issues, policies and procedures, and her intellectual capacity or incapacity, people in all good conscience, whether she is good looking or not; whether they liker her personally or not, for the safety and welfare of this country, will be unable to and will not vote for McCain. He has made a colossal mistake in judgment.

If I remember correctly, I think Joe Biden is also a big fan of "knock-out gorgeous" himself, right?

(Unfortunately for Biden, he's NOT the VP candidate who's the one who is knock-out gorgeous. :-)

re:
"The bottom line is McCain is 72 year old and has health problems and could die today or tomorrow!"

May I just ask...
Is THIS new Obama campaign slogan I'm hearing:

"Vote for ME!
I'm warning you...
With my infallible judgment
And my vast experience...
The other guy is going to DIE!!!"

Not so full of hope, huh?

Are you aware that Joe Biden has a history of health problems such that, statistically, he is much more likely to be the one to drop dead today or tomorrow?

I think your right he is old and she could end up as Prisident.....I'm voting for Mccain and Palin, I think she may be exactly what the country needs "A Change We Can Believe In"

The way i see it, Obama and the Democrats just said screw off to the women of America, about 18 million voters and oh did I mention Hillary Clinton. If I had been one of those groups i would be thinking long and hard about another option, Palin looks to me to be a real "Change We can Believe in" She is definately not congress as usual. (Joe Biden and Ted Kennedy have been in congress forever man, are they not some of those things that need to chnage.) And honestly I dont think i can believe in anything Obama says, does, or thinks. Hes just another name calling democrat if you ask me, and even if you dont ask me.

Why do the paid right-wing trolls always use latino names. The world may never know.

Why are the people who are saying things you don't agree with automatically "paid right-wing trolls"?

If you're pro-Obama I would avoid making experience a big issue, because Obama loses big in that regard.

"Gee... if I vote for McCain he MIGHT die and we MIGHT be left with a VP with less than an ideal amount of experience. But if we vote for Obama we have to hope that he dies in order to get someone with a lot of experience. That makes a lot of sense...."

Obama has been a Senator since 2004. That's pretty much the sum total of his political experience. Before that he taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago. Not an impressive resume for the position he is currently seeking if you ask me.

Personally, I'm much more concerned about the people running for president than for VP (I'm not saying it's of no importance, but it's certainly not near the top of my list). I'm also more concerned with character and voting records of these people than I am with experience (again, not that experience is not important... it's just not at the top of my list). There are many people who think that a candidate with little or no "Washington" experience is exactly what we need. I wouldn't go that far, but I do recognize why they feel that way.

Oh, and for the record, no one is paying me to post this. These are my opinions and may or may not reflect those of anyone else. Take it as one sample point. Treat me with respect and I'll return the favor.
