Veep Watch, A Meeting
McClatchy's Talev provides this pool report of an a.m. meeting between Barack Obama and veep shortlister Gov. Tim Kaine:
Sen. Obama and Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine and Kaine's staff met for an hour in private at the Omni hotel in Richmond. They descended a staircase about 10:05 am to shake hands with fans gathered in the atrium - perhaps 100 people. Kaine went first down the line, Obama behind him.
I asked Kaine whether Obama has asked him to be his running mate. Kaine said "I'm going to let the campaign speak for the campaign." He also declined to comment when I asked if he could rule it out.
I asked him what he and Sen. Obama talked about for an hour. He said: "He visited with my staff just to basically say hi to them and thank them for all their hard work."
Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Obama also took a photo with Kaine's staff. She wasn't sure how much of the mtg was just Obama and Kaine and how much was with staff. I did not get to ask Sen. Obama any questions
Kaine and Obama are now en route to Obama's first event together.
UPDATE, per NBC/NJ's Athena Jones: Obama camp staffer saying the candidate and Kaine did not meet for almost an hour, but for 15 minutes. They're saying Kaine was just in the building for an hour, there were photos with staffers etc.

The question is: Could Kaine increase Obama's numbers?? He is beginning to drop after having spent millions in July!!
Hotline, where is your coverage of today's blockbuster story about McCain not remembering how many houses he owns? You would have jumped on the story if Obama had made similar comment.
WAKE UP, you Democrats: it's not too late, you can still nominate Hilary Clinton for president. All it'll take would be 50 superdelegates to switch their votes at the convention. You can still have a Democrat for POTUS come November, but not with BO.
Obama won't be able to keep his mouth shut until Saturday. I am still in shock that a man with so little experience in politics is even being considered as a candidate for POTUS Obama is only a senator because the incumbent's ex-wife outed his private issues just prior to the election. He would never have even become a senator, nevermind president. I cannot believe that Hillary and Obama were the best that Democrats could come up with! One REALLY has no choice but to vote for McCain--it makes no difference whom Obama picks for Veep...
If Obama didn't pick Hillary he might just as well hand over the election to McCain. Look none of the other VP picks have 18 million voter base to bring to the table. Even Obama knows he needs votes to win. McCain is all over trying to get to Hillary supporters. So much even Cindy is lying so much about everything to get the woman's vote. I'm going shopping so if he picked Hillary he has my vote if he didn't he doesn't have my vote.
I hope I will eat these words, but I believe Obama's ego is to big to have Hillary. I can't believe he has gotten this far, he has NO experience, and he has made no major changes even in his own state. It is unclear what he would do for anything, because even on his gov't voting level, he has always remained middle of the road.
I have always been a Dem, but not this election. I have to vote for what is best for the country
Good God -- Be quiet already. He's the nominee and no amount of whining about Hillary is going to change that. Hillary doesn't have an 18 miullion voter base anymore because the PRIMARY IS OVER AND OBAMA WON.
We will have a Dem for POTUS because despite the Roveian smear machine that McCain has adopted, the fear and smear campaign won't work this time. It's the economy, stupid. McSame will give us more of the Bush administration's failed policies and send more of our children to fight useless wars...all while he sits back and tries to figure out how many houses he has and why we're all whining about the bad economy...
Veep strategy is beyond our comprehension...
If Obama walks with Biden in Springfield, Mccain will choose Hillary Clinton or Colin Powell as VPs - both of those choices would be winning tickets for Mccain. I would not put it past Hillary to ditch the party just to be second in command. Powell would do it too, because he is sitting on Obama to ask him.
That's why we need...
Obama/Albright '08
Kaine is about the poorest choice for running mates that Obama could pick. As former mayor of Richmond and now governor of Virginia, Tim Kaine has proven himself to be incapable of responsible leadership. As Mayor he sat quietly by in city council meetings while others pillaged the city's funds to pad their own pockets. Richmond was then and is now the murder capital of the south. Kaine was afraid to rock the boat as it might interfere with his own political aspirations.

If Hillary is not Obama's VP he will not win the POTUS. Plain and simple. He lucked his way into the nomination and his hubris is beyond belief. Thanks to CNN (OBAMA REVEALED) for finally giving us a good look at the guy. Too bad CNN didn't do this when Hillary was running...hmmm maybe that was deliberate.

I trust that Obama's choice for his VP running mate will be the right choice, and I am still hoping and praying that it is not Hillary Clinton. I imagine that McCain is hoping that she will be chosen because he has a lot of ammunition from Hillary's campaign to throw at that ticket. Hillary and Bill did a lot of damage in their comments about Obama during the Democratic primary race, and those comments will certainly come out to haunt them if she is chosen. And, unfortunately, she convinced a lot of her fans that Obama is unfit to be president-- to the point that they are having such a hard time transitioning to Obama even though I am sure they agree with him on most, if not all, of the issues. I also cannot help but feel that the Clintons are waiting on the sidelines in the hope that Obama will lose and then Hillary can run for president next time. Her sense of entitlement persists, and this is so sad for Obama and the Democratic party in general.
Obama needs someone who has Washington experience. He has to understand that to be the one of change he needs someone to show him how to do it. Hillary will unite the democratic party. When they say Obama supporters will not support that is STUPID. The two of them will unite the party. This can add stimulis to add more democratic seats to congress. Things will get done for the American people. Bill Clinton nominated a Republican for the Sec. of Defense. It shows democrates can go beyond party lines.
As if teenage girls
This is the new politics: Did you hear how he accpeted her to the prom.
Who is that girl?
I do not know he does not want to effend the other girls.
But what about his friends. Does he want to dis them?
Girl, his friends are very nervous, he has to pick the person their freinds want to associate with.
Girl, what if he really likes them though?
You do not know what is going one, we have to think about what our PEOPLE think, not what is going one. You are confusing what is happening and what is going on. They are different things.
So Girl, I need to pick what certain people want, not what is good for the people.
Girl I am confused. I know what is happening, home forclosures, inflation, loss jobs, utlility prices. This current administartion embraced the oil burden and trade deficient. However, we should be more concern with gay marriage and flag burning.
This is the what the bible says.
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Verse 3)
Blessed are the meek: for they shall posses the land. (Verse 4)
Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted. (Verse 5)
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill. (Verse 6)
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. (Verse 7)
Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God. (Verse 8)
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Verse 9)
Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Verse 10)
