Biden On McCain: "A Thoroughly Ethical Guy"

WEST PALM BEACH, FL - As the Republican National Convention finally got underway, John McCain got some unexpected praise from a colleague nearly 2,000 miles from St. Paul.

"He is my good friend," Joe Biden told a large crowd here tonight. "I get in trouble for saying this with some real strong Obama supporters. ... [But] if John McCain picked up the phone today and said, 'Joe, I need you to get in a plane and fly out to Missoula, I can't tell you why,' I'd get in a plane and I'd go."

Later, when asked about an effort by Republicans to portray their ticket as one of ethics and reform, Biden called McCain "a thoroughly ethical guy."

While the Delaware senator has shown himself willing to be an attack dog, he hasn't turned a colleague he said has been his friend for more than 30 years. But for every kind word he had for McCain, he had considerably more to say about his running mate, Barack Obama.

"If Barack Obama grew up in my neighborhood in Scranton or Claymont or Wilmington, Delaware, he would have been the guy who had my back," he said. "If you're looking for a very sophisticated, Harvard graduate who went to Columbia undergrad and was president of the Law Review, he's totally intellectual, baby, you ain't seen nothing yet. This guy is steel. This guy is steel, and I assure you that."

Biden also continued to defend Obama against rumors and e-mails he said have been circulating, and promised party would be responding to any other Swift Boat-style attacks with "a straight left and a right hook."

"We are not going to lay down, period," he said. "If you know anything about me -- that's what worries people. We are not going to lay down."

On that front, he did respond to one Republican in particular.

"I was really pleased. Karl Rove called me a windbag doofus," he joked. "I haven't heard that phrase before, I tell you what, I guess I've made it."

biden is real, as real as obama. there is no pre-tense about who these people are and what they stand for. i am sick of politicians who wear mask, who say one thing and do something else. these are the type of men who when they make a mistake will come out and say i made a mistake. not cover it up or lie or hide behind other people.
biden and mccain have a friendship that covers years and biden still calls him friend and will still help him in a time of need.
the reality is mccain is pandering, and playing the politican his judgement is very questionable he should be throughly checked out.

I feel that both Biden and McCain are real people, and I believe that both have this country's best interests at heart. I makes no difference that some of their political views are different, they support each other for the benefit of the country.

I have a real problem with Obama. Obama is for Obama period. Although I like some of his positions, such as that on free trade and tax benefits to companies that send jobs overseas, I do not trust him.

His comments that he "opposed the war" from its inception is very misleading. He was a state senator for several years after the start of the war. He had no part in this decision making process, and now, after the fact to imply that he did, is simply dishonest. I do not support the war, but I do support our troops.

Twiggy....McCain pandering? You're a nitwit.

Um. So...you like Sen. Obama's policy ideas, but don't trust him because you think he has a big ego? Really? Does it occur that perhaps EVERYONE running for POTUS has a big ego, that it's probably a requirement for the job in our media-driven age?

As for his opposition to the war...what difference does it make where he opposed the war? I don't recall him saying he voted against the war in the Senate - that would be an outright lie.

Lastly, the fact is that McCain IS pandering w/ his VP pick - he wanted Lieberman as his VP, but picked Palin to pacify the right wing of the party, who would've revolted over picking a pro-choice Democrat (in name only) like Lieberman. It's not like this is some wild theory - it's been well documented.

Obama is the real panderer. It is ok to change your stance but over a short period of time such as on drilling. And he could not answer Rick Warren directly because he wants to pander to both sides of the abortion issues.
The worst thing about him is that he has not come clean on the Rezko issue. He definitely got influenced or even favors from Rezko. His constituency has at leas 11 of Rezko slums which have violated housing codes..He have money from Rezko to buy his house. He got $250,000 from Rezko in campaign money. Obama is about Obama.
It should have been Hilary vs McCain.
Obama could be the best salesman in the world

I find it sad that there are people that won't let Obama be a real person, they have brought into the Spin from Republicans and even some Democracics because that is what they want to believe. You want Obama to tell you that you were right in not trusting him. You want him to admit to something that has not been proven true.
If you don't want to vote for Obama don't but to smear smacks of the same old thing.

I love Biden, he's wonderful. He says what he thinks before he considers the ramafications of his remarks.....but gets away with it, because we know him.

The problem with Palin is she is an unknown and will remain so, which will ultimately be to their detriment. Obama has be "out there" debating, talking, being interviewed for nearly 2 years....and people are just beginning to really know him. Palin will never overcome "not being known" and so, the people who might change their vote based on a great vp pick will not do so.

If Sen Biden had been on top of the ticket instead of Obama and a different Republican had won my vote might have been in doubt.

If Sen Biden was at the top of the ticket running against McCain then I would feel good about whoever won even though McCain is more to my opinions.

The Biden pick was the single best decision that Obama made. Sen Biden is clearly more qualified than Gov Palin and as qualified as Sen McCain, too bad the same can't be said for Sen Obama.

An Obama election will be the downfall of America, just as was Jimmy Carter's. They're the same person, just look back and review some history. The only good thing will be that, just with Carter, the country will see his ineptitude rather quickly and will go running back to Republican leadership for the next term. And then it will be another 30 years before the Dem's get back in the White House -- if ever again. We just need to pray the damage Barry does isn't too catastrophic to clean up.

Biden spoke well of McCain, which is nice. Having said that, Biden is a dunce that proposed partitioning Iraq and opposed the surge even after it was clearly working. Alongside Obama, we can be sure of higher taxes and a bigger, more bloated federal government. They are not bad guys, just guys with bad ideas.

you people that oppose obama, need to know that this black man can run this country you have the white man many many chances and look at wewe we are now.

Biden a good pick?

Umm, not if you're running as the candidate of change, he's not.

And if Palin as a one-term Governor isn't qualified to be VP, what makes Obama - a one-term Senator - qualified to be President?

What is this a popularity contest? Is this high school people? Let's talk about the issues.

The GOP convention has been a pack of lies and no one is challenging them on the issues.

Lie #1 from the Convention: Obama wants to raise your taxes.
Under Obama's plan, the TPC estimates that people (or couples) making between $37k and $66k a year would see an average savings of $1,118 on their taxes. However, under McCain's plan, on the other hand, those same individuals would save $325 on average — $793 less than the average savings under Obama's plan.

Lie #2: The Thompson theory, ok he doesn't want to raise taxes on you. He wants to raise taxes on businesses.Factcheck.org:
McCain falsely claimed Obama’s plan would increase taxes on 23 million small-business owners, when the vast majority of them would get a cut.” In addition, The Economist estimates business savings of 2.5% a year. Harvard Business Review also noted a 3.25% savings under the Obama plan for most business owners.

Lie # 3: Obama has no experience and Palin is more qualified
Education
Obama- Harvard Law School-JD/Columbia University-BA
President of the Harvard Law Review

Palin- BS in Journalism University of Idaho

The Early Years
Obama- University of Chicago –Law Professor and Attorney
Palin- Sports Newscaster & PTA President

The Not So Early Years
Obama- State Senator-Represented 133,000 Americans in the 13th District of Illinois
Palin- City Councilperson and Mayor of town of 5,000

Recently
Obama- US Senator representing 12 million Americans from the state of Illinois

Palin- Oil Commission, 1.5 Years as governor of a state with the population the size of Austin, TX

Travels
Obama- Recently spoke to 100,000 people in Germany; lived in Indodesia, has lived in Hawaii, Kansas, Mass,NY, Ill; spent time in Africa, Europe, South America and Asia

Palin- Received her Passport for the first time last year

If this is equal experience then I’ll sell you my son’s big wheel and you can call it your solution to the energy crisis.

Lie #4: He’ll increase government and the national debt:
But consider this TCP also says, Obama's tax plan would increase the debt by $3.5 trillion by 2018, while McCain's plan would bring about a projected $5 trillion increase in the same time frame.

Lie #5: Too far to the Left, Doesn't reach across party lines!
For those of you suggesting Obama is extreme left, then you don’t know his policies or his voting record in the US Senate or the eight years he spent in the Illinois State Senate. He voted to let retired police and military police carry concealed weapons (2004), reaching across party lines to pass this measure. In another bi-partisan effort, helped pass a 5 percent earned-income tax credit for low-income working families in 2000; made the credit permanent in 2003. Successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform called the Gift Ban Act (1998) with his Republican counterparts. As a US Senator his first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent. But I guess its easier to take what ever garbage we hear on tv or make false assumptions without doing our homework.

Obama's so called centrist positions came about rather quickly, about a year ago, after 20 years of embracing the far left, Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, Father Phfleiger, Ayers, etc.. Everyone knows this disingenuous move to the center was to get votes ... not because Obama all of a sudden had a true change of heart, and abandoned 20 years of his true beliefs. So, why does a good portion of the American public buy into to this? What makes these gullible people think that if he gets elected, we won't be stuck with a bunch of far left extremist socialist policies? After all, Obama has been the most liberal senator in congress, and Joe Biden has been the third most liberal senator in congress. Most, and third most, out of 100 senators are bad odds. Wake up American ... keep America strong, elect McCain/Palin to the white house in November.

Gina,
Do you even read anything anyone else writes? You simply post the same statements over and over again. Are you afraid to learn the truth? If you copy and paste it enough do you believe it will make your words true?

Biden has been in the Senate for over 30 years. He has had little success and there is no there-there. However like many in the elite political class—his son Hunter has had a very lucrative life as a SOAS (son of a Senator). I love the $100K per year as a consultant for MNBA while he was in law school. We need term limits!

Obama knows that Germany is not one of the 57 states . Yet he spent millions campaigning there . This is true outside the box thinking . No other candidate has ever even considered trying to pick up the German vote . Audacious indeed my friends !!

An ordinary person says: "I dont know know."
It takes a true political genius to say: "well uh uh whether you're looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, uh ,
answering that question with specificity, uh , is above my pay grade "

In the face of such genius typical white people (perhaps excluding the gun-clinging bitter xenophobic small town hicks) must support and vote for the ONE !!!

OOOH, yeah! America is so impressed with them fancy Ivy League credentials, we just adore our intellectual superiors. Anything that they say is good enough for me, yessirree-bob!

"biden is real, as real as obama"

twiggy | 09.03.08 03:34 AM

That's the funniest dang thing I've ever heard! I spit my gum out when I read it! Real?! Obama is a media creation. A celebrity sensation. He has no record or experience and apparently no one from his past who call tell us about his life before about 2002 - unless you count Rev. Wright (pastor for 20 years) Bill Ayers (friend for 15 years) and the people he stepped on to get into the Illinois senate. But we aren't supposed to ask them I forgot.

Biden and McCain are in the same boat. They are both allowed to take the moral "high-road" by minimizing personal attacks because 1) media does it for biden and 2) palin does it for mccain.

DEMOCRAPS HATEAMERICA!BARRY IS AN ASSHOLE!HOW
CAN HE BE FOR UNIONS WHEN HE(OBUMMA)WANTS TO
RISE YOUR TAXES!!!
