Huck: Palin Reports Show "A Sexism That Is Really, Really Disgusting"
MINNEAPOLIS -- Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee told NBC/NJ today that the recent wave of potentially-damaging news stories about Sarah Palin – including news that her teenage daughter is pregnant – represents a "sexism that is really, really disgusting and embarrassing," and could ultimately galvanize support for the GOP ticket.
Calling media critiques of Palin "unprecedented" ("they never did this to Chelsea Clinton," he said), Huckabee predicted that Palin's victimization would rouse support even from non-Republicans outraged by sexist sentiment.
"It's backfiring big time," said the governor. "And it's really giving, I think, the McCain-Palin ticket a great boost and a new level of support they would never have had otherwise."
"The American people are angry," about the focus on Palin's family, Huckabee said. "They know that these are questions that have never been asked of a male running for president. Never. Never would be."
Asked if he believed that Palin had been adequately vetted by John McCain's campaign, the one-time veep contender said that he trusted the process described by his party's nominee.
"She's already been vetted by the people of Alaska pretty faithfully, and I think fairly," he added.
NBC/NJ caught up with Huckabee this morning in the Minneapolis Convention Center, where he appeared at a panel discussion hosted by the ONE Campaign. He'll be preparing this afternoonfor his 8:30pm CT address to the Republican National Convention, which finally appears set on the schedule after a torturous rescheduling process.
"I've fluctuated from Monday to Tuesday to Thursday, to Wednesday," he said today. "Then back to Thursday and now Wednesday. And I think for sure I'll be on the program tonight."

The rethugs have spent all their life bashing women, belittling their achievements, taking away their rights, paying them less and now they have balls to shed crocodile tears? Bunch of idiots.
Wait, they never went after Chelsea? How about this one:
"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno."
- John McCain, 1998
They never attacked Chelsea?!?!
John McShame HIMSELF attacked Chelsea!
Just lies.
As for a bounce. The bounce has Obama at or over 50% and leading every poll by 5% or more.
People see through the GOP tactics. B/c that's all they have is tactics.
He sounds drunk on moonshine and possum gizzards.
Calling media critiques of Palin "unprecedented" ("they never did this to Chelsea Clinton," he said)
No, they did it to Hillary.
Oh really?
According to Republicans of 2000, McCain has fathered a black child and Cindy McCain is a alcoholic and drug addict.
Blame it on media..lol.
As a women candidate for VP of the United States, as one who touts abstinence and no sex education in schools, it is necessary to know how successful this ideology is in her own family. It is necessary to mention it, because if it were a man with the same ideals with a daughter pregnant out of wedlock it would be mentioned, and on one would care. Women want equality but don't seem to recognize it when it occurs. This is it.
I do believe however that after mentioning it it needs to be dropped the point only needs to be made one time.
She is potentially the President of the United States, McCain is no spring chicken, she must expect this, and cries of sexism aren't going to help women.
I hope that every woman in the USA realizes that McCain is just trying to use them so he can win. I don't have anything against Ms. Palin but MY GOD!!!! If something happens to McCain do we really want a mom with five kids to ANSWER THE PHONE AT 3:00 AM. I don't think so!!!!! One of the things that everyone liked and still likes about Hillary is the fact that she is a woman but not just a regular woman. She is a woman with so much experience to take this country as our next President. But the reality is that we are not ready for a woman to be our President because if we were Hillary would be the one. Not some hockey mom with 5 kids and ready to be a granny. I am voting for OBAMA!!!!!! Now, I can see clear that Obama and Biden are the ones that will take this country were it needs to be. We need a CHANGE and Obama is the one that will bring that to us. He is already giving us a Legacy of Hope that we need to make the right decision on Nov. 4.
God Bless America.

Now for a break from the Obamazombies.
Palin has them scared sh*tless because she may accomplish what so many Democrats before her failed to do.
This isn't about women. This is about electing Democrats and advancing socialism. Palin does neither, and therefore must be destroyed.
Keep it up, O!bots. You're rallying tepid conservatives to McCain's side. Obama's already dipped a point in Gallup daily tracking since yesterday.
Back under 50%, with a ways to go.
Hillary Rodam Clinton was attacked by the press ONLY after they fell in love with Barack Hussein Obama. The attacks on Sarah Palin are out of fear that their "Messiah" might not make it all the way to the "gardens" of the White House. Lay off the woman and let the American people, not the press, pick our leaders.
Guatemala-4-Obama:
We're obviously not ready for a woman to use the Internet either. Please hit 'post' only once.
Of course McCain is using Palin to get to women voters, and shamelessly so. How sexist is he to think that simply because she is a woman, she would appeal to ALL women? Her similarity to both, Hilary and Geraldine (Ferraro) end with the fact that they are women. She has nothing in common with them. I do not care that her daughter is pregnant, that is their business, but I know for a fact that if that were the case with Biden's or Obama's family, the RNC would blast them to hell and back, citing all sorts of 'liberal upbringing' etc. I am sick of their hypocrisy - the US and the world has had enough of it. We need a change!
Polls. polls. polls. Gore won the popular vote and still did not make it to the white house. How do suppose that happened, after all the polls had him a 12 point favorite. I really don;t pay much attention to polls.
"Calling media critiques of Palin "unprecedented" ("they never did this to Chelsea Clinton," he said)
No, they did it to Hillary.
corinne | 09.03.08 01:43 PM"
If by "they" you are referring to Obama's campaign, then yes, you would be correct.
Can someone be a mother and be President? Hmmm... why don't you start by asking all the fathers who have been Presidents.
Biden was a single dad when elected to the Senate and commuted every day. Everyone calls him a hero but is thrashing Palin, who would only need to ride 15 minutes over to 1 Naval Observatory Circle to get home.
If you are going to jump on someone, try attacking credentials. Better yet, try look at your Presidential candidate's lack of any.
J.P:
Huckabee was making the point that the media didn't go after Chelsea.
--MJ
You people are truly pitiable. First, the point is about the media and the bloggers you likely read publicly attacking and smearing Bristol Palin. Second, McCain's comment was crass, to be sure; but it was at a minor campaign fundraiser, and he immediately apologized for it:
"The Clintons were quick to accept McCain's groveling apology, calling him 'our bud.'"
Your disgusting, baldfaced blood politics is apparent to everyone outside your insulated world. It reeks of desperation and gross hypocrisy.
I hope you're proud of yourselves.
When Huckabee says "they never did this...", by "they" he means "the media."
Mike, I'm sure all the Republican Women who are Senators and Governors would disagree with your assessment that the Republicans have been "bashing women, belittling their achievements, taking away their rights, paying them less."
Good Lt, you are right on. Unfortunately, the left can only seem to make an argument with nonsensical vitriol, rather than facts and truth. If Sarah Palin were a man, NO ONE would ask if the children would suffer because of the campaign, and they certainly wouldn't attack the children. She has more experience than John Edwards had when he was running for VP (a first term senator, like Obama), not to mention more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined. Obama and Biden represent the same old pork laden past (check Obama's record shoveling pork back to his buddy Emil Jones in the IL legislature, and a million dollar earmark to the hospital that gave Michelle Obama a $200,000+ raise the year Obama was sworn in as a national senator) - McCain and Biden represent future reform. They have been reformers in their own political lives. Check the record, the truth is out there. With regard to Gov. Palin's children, I can say that as a stay at home mother of 4 children, I know that the stay at home parent (like Todd Palin) is perfectly capable of providing a solid moral compass for the children while the other parent works. The Palin's good moral influence is exemplified by their acceptance of their daughter's HUMANITY (everyone makes mistakes, a fact that seems to escape all of the hypocritical people throwing stones in glass houses) as well as their daughter's subsequent willingness to handle her and her fiancee's personal situation with dignity, morality and class. A baby is not a punishment - a baby is a blessing, just ask the millions of infertile couples out there that would love to adopt an infant. I know how hard it is, I've witnessed countless couples hoping to adopt here in America. So people, stop judging and start researching! Obama and Biden's voting and earmark records are public information, as well as McCain/Palin's. Informed debate is what this country is all about. Malicious attacks and unsubstantiated smears are not.
Oops, I meant McCain and PALIN represent future reform...you know what I meant!
The unhinged lefty comments like those on this blog used to represent the daily kos and democrat underground. Now they represent Jake Tapper and the New York Times. I can't wait for a media person to accidentally utter 'rethuglican' or something like that.
BHO/Biden compared to McCain/Palin are like weak tea.
Nancy Pelosi has 5 children. Not one Republican said a word about that.
I'm a Democrat that is voting for McCain. I like Palin and it's not just because she's a woman. Afterall, Hillary is woman too. And though I give her credit for putting up a good fight against the 'annointed ONE', Obama, she still wouldn't be my choice for President, woman or not.
So we women are NOT being pandered to. We are smart enough to make our own choices.
McCain/Palin 08!!
I am a life long pro choice democrat woman.. The attacks on this woman are sexist. I will vote the other way for first time in my life cause the news media pissed me off big time.
Guatemala-4-Obama: "I don't have anything against Ms. Palin but MY GOD!!!! If something happens to McCain do we really want a mom with five kids to ANSWER THE PHONE AT 3:00 AM. I don't think so!!!!!"
Just curious.
Is there anyone out there who wants to try to defend that statement against my accusation that it is sexist?
Not me, Clint. I don't have the necessary rhetorical skills nor the walnut-sized brain required to defend G4O's anti-female comment.
To Maria Gonzalez:
Welcome, we are glad to have you. If abortion is your primary issue, and it looks like it is, a conservative in the federal government is not your enemy. I never let my oppinion about abortion known, my wife doesn't even know what it is, but I am pro constitution. Since the constitution is silent regarding abortion, it is up to the states. I'm sure that most states will have legal abortion after Roe v. Wade is overturned. So you can vote McCain/Palin with a clear conscience.
Everyone who claims she is inexperienced must also think that obama is inexperience since he has less experience then Palin. News media are trying to keep the message from the republican converntion from getting out and also they see this as a threat to "the one". They are being blind to the truth because the truth does not suit what they want.
How many of you libs have ever been elected Governor of a state? Mayor? Anything? Blowhards.
I hope that every woman in the USA learns how to use a computer.
The Good Ole Boy Democrats have spent all their lives appeasing women, falsely praising their achievements, patting them on the backside, paying them less and disrespecting 18 million supporters and two states in the process.
The Democrats proceeded to trash the first woman VP on the ballot and undercut the first possible woman presidential candidate. They backed someone whose resume has been scrubbed clean of pertinent information and whose close associates and friends have been denied or dismissed as quickly as they appear to the public.
And, the only executive experience Obama could claim is being kept underwraps because he was working with a former terrorist at the U of I. He managed to spend millions with Ayers and the CAC with no measurable results. Bunch of idiots.
Governor Palin is a real woman. She has executive experience. She is not a shady political insider. She and Senator McCain will make history this fall.
Reality check for wingnuts: we libs are absolutely THRILLED at the Palin pick. We're celebrating. She's been a non-stop sh8t-storm of grief and tabloid silliness for you for the past 5 days, has killed your convention coverage, and is making a lot of indies question McCain's stability.
Get over your "They're afraid of Palin" meme. We aren't. We were HOPING it would be mittens of LIEberman, but this, this silly VP pick better than X-mas as far as we're concerned.
So thanks, and really, get with reality.
How brilliant is it to vote for somebody because the news media pissed you off. Geez.. love your country much?
A couple follow-ups on wingnut madness:
1. McCain is for a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT banning abortion. So you can't vote for him with a clear conscience.
2. Ferraro was the 1st female candidate for VP. We Dems broke that glass ceiling 25 years ago.
3. Um, mayor of a town of 6,000 and less than two years as the Gov. of the 4th least populous state are not experience, especially up against a Harvard Law Review President and Constitutional Scholar, years of community organizing, years in the Illinois State Senate representing more people than are in Palin's whole state, and finally a rather impressive freshman Senate career. Oh, and Barack's also going to be America's first black president.
Get used to it.
I'm glad the readers here know about McCain's "joke" about Chelsea Clinton, but when is the mainstream media going to cover it?
Mike Huckabee: Feminist!
The contortotions and twists and turns of the GOP are high flying and spectacular.
I love this!!!!!!
Its over
laugh out loud .... "wingnut madness"
1. People like "lien" believe that the right to kill babies in the womb is the sine qua non of feminism. That is insanity. But it's also the modern Democratic party. What a shame, but there it is. Sad.
2. Since Gerraldine's VP nomination in 1984, the Democrats have not nominated another woman. They had a chance this year, but trashed her and selected a less qualified male. Show's you that Democrat allegiance to feminism is only (fore) skin deep.
3. Being a mayor and governor IS experience. You might as well argue that the moon is made of blue cheese. Barack is more experienced? Are you on crack? Harvard Law Review? Complete affirmative action pick - besides the fact he published no articles under his own name. Consttutional "scholar"? Are you kidding? The other profs at Chicago remember Barack not participating in legal debates; he also published ZERO papers. Let's call him a constitutional law lecturer.
You are high on cocaine or Obama love if you think Obama's district in the Illinois Senate has more people than the state of Alaska.
"Impressive" freshman Senate career. So impressive that his sub-committee has had no hearings; he has not crafted any major legistlation in the most do-nothing congress in history; and he has been campaigning almost the whole time.
I think the only thing we have to "get used to" lien, is that you don't deserve to be heard. Why don't you run along and let the rational people discuss politics.
Population of Wasilla = 7 thousand
Population of Chicago = 2.8 million
Population of Alaska = 700 thousand
Population of Illinois = 12.8 million
Has anyone been to Alaska? Just some interesting things I learned in my travels for you all to read. There are 7 times more pilots liscenses than drivers liscenses! Major cell pone comapanies and stores won't set up shop there. Some of their biggest problems evolve around paving the roads. You think anyone from this state is ready to run on a national ticket, let alone relate to us?
G4obama:
See if this works for you:
"I don't have anything against Mr. Obama but MY GOD!!!! Do we really want a father with two young children and a working wife to ANSWER THE PHONE AT 3:00 AM. I don't think so!!!!!"
"I don't have anything against Mr. Edwards, but MY GOD!!!! Do we really want a father with four kids and a wife with terminal cancer to ANSWER THE PHONE AT 3:00 AM. I don't think so!!!!!
Uh, yeah, it was the McCain Campaign that issued the statement that Palin's daughter was pregnant - not the media and not Obama. If its disgusting to do so, blame McCain. The MSM is focusing on the litany of other Palin issues - i.e. doing their jobs. It is McCain who keeps bringing young Palin back into the spotlight. Hell, he drove to the airport today for a photo op of him huggin her and gladhanding the babydaddy on the tarmac. Disgusting, yes, but blame McCain for exploiting the issue, not the MSM. McCain is using this as a diversion from Palin's real shortcomings.
Why does it have to be called sexism. It is just simply blatently bias. It is hate. It is wrong. It is un-American. It needs to stop. Those who wish to continue throwing feces should do so under the radar.
Re: areyoukiddingme?
We shur are glad that we hav u big-city sofistikats 2 rule us. We culn't make it wiffout u.
These republicans are the nastiest lowest forms of life on the evolutionary charts. Sexism? Choice of a stupid tart from Alaska who changes her views on everything from Catholicism to Assembly-ism to suit the moment and possible gain, is a purely exploitative act. An old man and trailer trash at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? Possible, given the stupidity of the American people who elected ...perhaps...Bush twice. Nixon. Loved Joe McCarthy until he had his plug pulled. Loved Vietnam until they started losing relatives.
We get what we deserve, electorate, because we elect those we deserve. Unless everybody gets a one-month crash course in thinking, I have not much hope.
Jon from Chicago
The reason is because the media was going to leak it. They gave Sarah palin a courtesy call in advance to let her know. She did the right thing by releasing the information on her own.
The sad fact of the matter is that this should have been off limits from the media. These are under aged children, children who are not actively campaigning.
I think that I will never purchase another dead wood periodical for the rest of my life. They are unworthy of support in the form of my purchases. Maybe if someday the dead wood media get a shake up, and become balanced on net, I might deem it proper to appropriate money to purchase their goods.

So when does the Huckster apologize to Chelsea?
The rethugs now claim the Huckster was only talking about the media...
Right on. Clean up your own house, Mike.
Muzzle McShame
Wow. That is all I can say. Has it ever occurred to people that maybe the media is "attacking" Palin because there are actually reasons to do so.
1. Anti-Sex Education.. abstinence only policy. That is the root of the issue here policy, not because she's a woman but of the policy that she believes in so much. Didn't Palin line item veto funding for pregnant teens to have a place to live, if by some reason the teens parents threw the teen out or had no place to go. Thanks being everyone's moral compass. Ironic
2. Affiliation with the Alaskan Independence..not independent.. Party that wants Alaska as it's own state. Interesting every vice president in the past believed the union of this country isn't really that important. The chairman of that party from 1995 to 2002 just gave her a ringing endorsement after saying he's had dinner at her house, spoke with her quite often etc. but then also said she attended their convention in the mid 1990's. Which is being denied by the campaign, the media's fault for finding out right?
3. About the federal case being built that has the governor of Alaska nearly indicted by the Alaskan State Senate over abuse of power accusations in the firing of an state employee. She already has a lawyer and is using executive privilege to hide or not release her emails. Sounds familiar to me. The Valerie Plame case, the U.S Attorney firing scandals. The media had no right to attack anybody on that issue right? Yet again the media is attacking this woman for no good reason? Give me a break
I don't know about anybody else but someone whether be man or woman 6 months ago doesn't know what the Vice President does or at least a little to answer a question somewhat intelligently should not be running for that office.
But of course, all of this according to you is the media's fault. Wake up and realize that maybe the media is reporting some, again some fact and not just randomly attacking people.
Also, where were the republicans when all of these tv show hosts were bashing Obama's middle name. Hmmm... its ok when the media attacks a democrat opponent because his name is wierd but not when a republican is attacked. Enjoy the taste of your own medicine and quit complaining. Whose whining now.

Sobeit you are another Kos brainwashed imbecile.
Palin has been proven never to have been a member of the Alaskan Independence Party. Also the Monegan case is more a matter of a personal dispute, even Monegan admits there is no evidence proving Palin ever pressured him other than suggestions from her husband over Wooten, the investigation is to determine whether there was any intent. As for her abstinence views, which are determined on the district level and the president's opinion has absolutely nothing to do with implementation of policy, John McCain does not agree and he would set the tone. You keep forgetting the Democratic Congress will still hold a majority.
Sorry libs, the media has been overtly sexist. Commenting on her pregnancy, her children, and whether she can balance the job or not is solely because of her pro-life views not gelling with the feminist ideal. The beltway pundits are out of touch with middle America, McCain totally ruined the dynamic because you've gone from pretending to care about small towns because your VP pick embellishes leaving Scranton, PA at age 9 and riding the train to Washington, to a pathetic elitist condescension of a provincial woman for religious views and a proclivity for firearms. Ouch, you just confirmed Obama's private resentment of 80% of the US. Ever wonder why he told you to plug it?
You'll see in a week. The sexism is so thick its opaque and anyone who isn't an intolerant socialist bigot can detect it, it will come back to hurt you.
As a women candidate for VP of the United States, as one who touts abstinence and no sex education in schools, it is necessary to know how successful this ideology is in her own family.
So, by that logic, either Al Gore is/was not suitable to be VP or president or he believes that driving 100 mph and doing drugs (not necessarily at the same time) are acceptable behaviors.
Come on. No one can watch their kids all the time, especially when they are 17 or older. I don't think the escapades of Al Gore's son disqualify him and I think the same of the Palins.
"lieinveigleobfuscate"
1: What a poor choice for a name. If you're trying to have any credibility at all, this name seriously fails.
2. Fewer insults, more content.
3. As one of the many in the middle, who finds the far left as scary as the far right, I find Obama's resume to be a bit anemic for the office he's applying for. Yes, Palin's is a bit anemic as well, but she's running for a lower office.
4. You don't know who's going to win the 2008 elections. Pretending otherwise just further lowers your credibility.
Less emotion, no insults and more informational content would be nice. Thanks.
There's a difference between standing up as a woman, and standing up for women. There's a difference between standing up as a veteran, and standing up for veterans. On both counts, McCain stands without standing for anything.

That doesn't really bother me. Her experience is still going to be applicable IMO. Her resume is a bit anemic, but so is Obama's (and he's running for president). Neither party picked the people I would have picked for them... I guess I shouldn't be surpised when those people don't pick the VP's I would have picked for them.
If you're pro-Obama I would definitely leave the "experience" comments off the table. If you're pro-McCain then.... why are you criticizing his VP choice. If you're like me and in the middle... I'd suggest concentrating more on McCain and Obama. IMO the VP's biggest job is to keep a tight reign on their mouth and support the president's agenda. I really doubt Biden's ability to do that (sorry, but in my experience he has a hard time keeping his foot out of his mouth)and I haven't made up my mind on Palin yet, but it just doesn't matter much. I'm much more concerned with where OBAMA and MCCAIN want to take the country. Judging from his voting record (from what I've researched so far anyway) Obama definitely fits into what I would call the far left. At least McCain is in the middle (anyone who follows politics knows he's been a thorn in the side of the far right for years).
If you're far left, you're going to attack McCain and Palin regardless. If you're far right you're going to attack Obama and Biden regardless. While you people are debating whether Biden's complement to Palin was appropriate or whether a woman with a special needs child should be serving as VP, the rest of us will be discussing things like THE WAR, THE ECONOMY, FREE TRADE ISSUES, FORIEGN POLICY, AN EVER-MORE-AGGRESSIVE-RUSSIA, etc... Don't mind us...
What a gal. I loved this line - she said the only difference between a pitbull and a hockey mom is lipstick. She will hold her own if the media would leave her family alone.
After watching both conventions so far, the republican convention looks like a KKK rally, I haven't seen one person of color or different nationality. Is that McCains real plan for Americas future???
James III: Try changing the channel. MSNBC doesn't show anyone except for old white guys. It's an Olberman thing.
I dunno, I've been listening to the Democrats, and they have a point.
A woman shouldn't have a job, she should be at home, chained to the stove, watching the kids 24/7. That is where a woman belongs, and to pretend otherwise is foolish.
Although I wonder, sure being VP takes too much time for someone with kids to do it, but what about researching issues to make an informed vote; doesn't that take time away form kids too?
I'm convinced by the Democrats that the 19th Amendment was a poor idea, and women need to lose the right to vote. In fact educating them might confuse them form their sole task in life too.
Thank you Democrats for showing me that women have no place in society beyond raising children. I had been misled, but the liberal feminists have shown me that no woman should be trusted with an important job. She might have kids if she gets that job, and that would be awful.
That was the point, right?
Hey! Chelsea IS NOT ugly!
