Media Monitor: Backstage Pass -- The Iditarod Race
![]()
9/4, 10:30 am CT: Interview with FNC's Bill Hemmer, co-host of "America's Newsroom."
We headed this a.m. to the Fox Experience tent, adjacent to the Xcel Energy Center, which houses all of FNC's operations in St. Paul.
FNC sightings: Chris Wallace, Brit Hume, and Karl Rove.
Sitting in his makeshift office, Hemmer, who is covering his fifth convo, offered his perspective on this year's back-to-back convos.
Hemmer: "I use the phrase, with deference to Governor Palin, as this stretch of time being our own personal Iditarod. It's truly an endurance test, and now we've reached the finale. I think when we all set out, we knew it was going to be a long 15 days, and we were right."
More after the jump, including photos.

During the interview, Rove poked his head in to offer his two cents on Hemmer: "Listen to everything this guy says."
Hemmer: "[That's] a smart man right here."
Hemmer also weighed in on Palin's speech last night: "They allowed her to find a comfort level by talking about her family first. And I thought that helped her presentation last night. ... There is no doubt that the delegates in that convention hall were thrilled to hear the message she delivered."
As a journalist with over 20 years of experience in the field, we were wondering if Hemmer had had a particularly memorable interview as of yet.
"I don't think I've had it yet," he said. "I'm still waiting on it. And I can't wait until it happens."
Hemmer, however, did offer his most memorable life experience: "My greatest experience was quitting my job and backpacking around the world for a year. And that was single greatest experience of my life."

Why do we care?
And Palin never ran the Iditarod...
Yeah, it was the Iron Dog, and it was her husband that won it.
Even though he got CAUGHT CHEATING on it in 2007.
Yeah, but at least he gets to suffer through it with Megyn Kelly.
