Palin: "I Didn't Blink" When Offered VP Job

ABC News released excerpts tonight of Charlie Gibson's interview with Sarah Palin, which airs over the next two days and during a special tomorrow evening.

Here's a snippet of Palin on John McCain's VP offer:

"I answered him yes because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can't blink, you have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we're on, reform of this country and victory in the war, you can't blink. So I didn't blink then even when asked to run as his running mate."

And a hint of her hard line on international affairs:

When asked by Gibson if, under the NATO treaty, the U.S. would have to go to war if Russia again invaded Georgia, Palin said:

"Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're going to be expected to be called upon and help. And we've got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable."

Georgia's not a member of NATO...

Yes, we need a VP who has this kind of history..

She does not even know the duties of VP!

In an interview just a month ago, she dissed the job, saying it didn’t seem “productive.”

In fact, she said she doesn’t know what the vice president does.

Larry Kudlow of CNBC’s “Kudlow & Co.” asked her about the possibility of becoming McCain ticket mate.
Palin replied: “[A]s for that V.P. talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the V.P. does every day?"

Palin - anything to take the heat off McCain. Have you seen McCain move around? He looks like he has severe arthritis that he states is from his old war injuries. Why doesn't he admit he is just old period? Old thinking. Dementia old. You cannot teach that old dog new tricks - he is hard wired for his trickle down economics -reward the corporations - maybe money will trickle down to the worker bees. Problem is - we don't have any more worker bees - they've all been off shored! P. Diddy the other day said "Alaska! We don't even have any Black people in Alaska!" How about Matt Damon? She reminds him of a "bad Disney Movie". I agree - she is either Goofy from the Mickey Mouse Show, or Dopey from the "Snow White" movie. Celebrities are the only ones who have the guts to say in public what we are all thinking. Another poster said it best - McCain looks like an old sock puppet - and is mouthing the words of Karl Rove, the old stinky puppet master.

As an independent I don't care what the conservatives say or don't say. Its all a bunch of spin to me. Moreover, I think the liberals are just as bad and I probably believe even less of what they say. I think Governor Palin did a much better job than most people would have done on their first interview. She definitely is not a Washington politician which is REFRESHING. She seems to actually care about people and seems like a throwback to the days when politics was about public service and not self service like it is with today's politicians. She has definitely distinguished herself as a knowledgeable, sharp, experienced person and carries herself like a CEO. I'm 99% sure she has won my vote. I love the idea that we could have a strong woman in the White House who will mix things up in Washington. I thought we'd have that chance with Hillary, but at least we can have it with Sarah.

Being a small town mayor, population about 5,000, and governor of a state with a population of
about 600,000 does not in my view qualify Sarah Palin to be leader of the free world. It's
like asking the manager of a convenience store to take over General Electric.

She is absolutely nuts.

Of course, she did not blink! She is too stupid to understand she is not a fit candidate, too arrogant, and has too many questions in her past actions to be legit.

However, this fits with the Republican election machine. It matters not if you have any intelligence, it only matters that you know how to kiss the right arse!

I just watched Charlie Gibson's segment on ABC interviewing Sarah Palin on National Security.

She doesn't know what the Bush Doctrine is!?

Then, Anderson Cooper asks David Gergen his opinion of this particular part of the segment and, if I recall his comments correctly, David says he doesn't know what it is, doesn't think most people know what it is, and, doesn't think it's a big issue.

What!?

If you're in Government, especially in some form of high office, you better know what the Bush Doctrine is. If you are a professional journalist covering poltics and government, you better know what the Bush Doctrine is.

Quick, somebody ask them if they at least know the Monroe Doctrine.

At least, I'd have some faith that someone paid attention in Junior High or High School.

Is this stuff really that difficult?

Fools rush in where Angels fear to tread!

Hillary must be rolling on the ground after watching Palin's "remarkable" interview last night. I have voted in every election for 47 years and have NEVER seen a candidate so unqualified. It's clear to me that some people would rather put their own country in peril than not have a woman in office.

Who's writing the republican script, Steven King? Because I'm scared and if you're not then tell what you're drinking so I can have a taste too.

You know there's a lot of people including the press who may not know the meaning of the Bush Doctrine. But if I were having knee surgery I would hope the doctor would know where my torn ACL is located. For that matter I hope my mechanic knows where the radiator is located, and is it too much to ask that my Vice President know something about the policies of this country that has led us into two wars.

Considering most freshman Pol Sci 101 students can answer this question, I would like to know why a Vice Presidential candidate doesn't have a clue.

For those of you upset with the mean interviewer, give me a break. Fact is if Gibson can shake her that easily, then how will she perform in a real national crisis when the pressure is on and lives are on the line. The bottom-line is she is not the person I want getting that phone call at 3am. As for McCain, his last minute choice in her demonstrates he doesn't have the judgment to handle that 3am phone call either. I thought about voting for McCain but he has demonstrated he’s too careless and Palin simply too ignorant of national and international policy.

We aren't voting for the next PTA president, this person must be able to stand up to the fire. I can see it now:

Secretary: Mrs. Palin, President Asif Ali Zardari line one

Palin: Now where is he from again?

Secretary: Pakistan

Palin: Now that's in the Middle East right. See I knew that because that sounded like one of those Middle Eastern names.

Secretary: Yes ma'am.

Palin: Okay now where did I file those flash cards, was it under P for Pakistan or M for the Middle East or Z of Zardari.

This country deserves better and McCain has given you a side show, media entertainment for the mindless mass, not a leader.

PS- If she carries herself like a CEO, then please tell me where you work. I need to put a call into my stockbroker. SELL, SELL, SELL!
Because the day the Mailroom Manager starts making decisions but doesn't know what a P&L Statement is, there's a problem.

Does "Don't blink" means don't think?
It seems so.

Ms Palin's cavalier allusions of war with Russia, of all countries, are dangerously naive and one wonders who in America still imagines she should be a heartbeat away from the presidency?

Certainly her teleprompter spelling nuclear phonetically for her was a good indication the Republican party is preparing themselves to use the word more often in the event of a Republican inspired nuclear confrontation with Russia.

The point is America has one more chance to get this right or all bets are off. I am convinced Palin really is an attempt to put lipstick on a disastrous Republican record over eight long excruciating years. Wake up and smell the carabou.
