Poll: Women Think Palin Pick Was Political

As the political world -- and, well, America at large -- gears up to hear AK Gov. Sarah Palin address the RNC this evening in what is shaping up to be the most critical address of the convention, the pro-choice, formerly pro-Hillary Clinton Emily's List is releasing a survey that shows Palin is not helping the GOP with moderate, female voters.

The national poll of 800 women, conducted from 8/31 to 9/1, reveals that Palin has not boosted the overall perception of the GOP ticket's understanding of women's issues -- 53% gave the advantage to Barack Obama and Joe Biden, while 35% opted for John McCain and Palin.

When presented with basic biographical information about the two veep contenders, Palin has less overall appeal to women than Biden, 41% to Biden's 64%.

And finally, voters were asked to gauge if the presidential candidates made their veep selections based on experience and qualifications or political expediency. Half of respondents said Obama chose Biden based on his experience, while 29% said he was chosen for political reasons. Meanwhile, 20% said McCain chose Palin for political reasons and 59% said her pick was all politics.

It's worth cautioning that EL is a progressive group, of course, and has a certain agenda in presenting a poll such as this as the GOP readies to hear from Palin.

Still, some political observers have suggested that given the fissure in the Democratic Party during the primary, women voters -- Clinton backers specifically -- might be up for grabs in the general. But polling post-Palin's pick indicates that women voters still lean favorably for Obama/Biden and that Palin has done the most good for McCain in jazzing his base -- not drawing moderate or female voters into the GOP fold. Also, the EL survey was not in the field for the revelations of Palin's teen daughter's pregnancy or her husband's DUI.

I have a hard time thinking Emily's List survey is unbiased. I think we can write this one off.

It'd be interesting to see a neutral(ish) polling firm conduct a similar survey.

Seriously folks... If McCain is grabbing 35% of the pro-choice feminist women of Emily's list, the Democrats are doomed. That should be the news.

Hey Patrick, if you know how to read you will see that this was a national poll of 800 women voters. This was NOT a poll of Emily's List. DUHH.

This is a one sided "News Network," Other than "60 Minutes," I will not use this network any more for a news source.

Why don't you take a look a O'bom's past? Does no one care what happens to this country?

Thank you, Ethan.

In light of Patrick's post(s), this bears repeating:

Thank you, Ethan.

Sarah has more experience than John when it comes to governing. But he is at the top of the ticket. Sound familar? God Forbid we lose Obama. But we have Biden. God Forbid we lose McCain. We have...a soccer mom? Come on, let's get real here. The Republicans and the media rode Obama like a horse over just listening to his preacher preach. Not preaching himself or even being in the room. Palin has done some pretty despicable things in her political life and the Republicans and many in the media are acting like she is some kind of pristine princess. It's not going to fly. The McCain/Palin ticket is polluted from top to bottom.

Poll: Women smarter than McCain gives them credit for.

A selection for a political position is "political". Must be an Ivy League observation, way beyond my comprehension.
Ethan, what do you think about them having that lunch yesterday and not inviting us?

I am an American woman, a Constitutionalist, who is bigtime in favor of gun rights, bigtime in favor of abortion rights. These have ALWAYS been the issues separating the Reps from the Dems.

I support John McCain in that he is an accomplished leader, an American hero, a wise older man, and the most moderate Republican running for President of the United States that we have seen in modern history.

As soon as Palin is removed, one way or another -- and this wise older man will realize that he was duped by her and his so-called advisers into picking a militant religious right anti-abortionist hypocritical bad mother -- John McCain will win this election and we will, as a nation, begin a reign of a thousand years of peace.

I hope women are not going to vote for a woman just becuase she is a woman. I think we are all smarter then that. We should be able to read, listen, study and make our decisions from that process and not becuase they put a female on a ticket. This is insulting. There are a lot of smart women out there in public life. The thought of having Palin as a VP is very scary, the thought of her (God forbid anything should happen to any of the candidates) as a President is dangerous. You could be mayor of a city with 8thousand people and a governor for a year and a half, but are these the only qualifications we are looking for in a VP that could become a President; and deal with the Putin's and conflicts of the world? So she has won a few battles in her State: great, good work; but it takes more.
Do you all have any idea what the world is doing at this time? they are scrathing their heads and asking "what are they doing or thinking about?"
We seem to have double standards when it comes to parties. I was not sure whom I was voting for because i was waiting for the VP choice. Who and how McCain chose his VP is making me think, "is this the way he is going to govern if he is President?" "Is this the way he is going to make decision?" I don't think that in the USA we have a 1 man government system. Of course the rest in his party are going to say Palin is wonderful;it is to be expected. But the comment I read and heard from Gulianni was that the most popular governor in the USA. Most people in the press were had never heard of her when she was nominated. Are we going to start on the wrong foot?

Somewhere along the way, McCain and Palin seem to think women are 'gullible'. Gov. Palin 'pales' in comparison to the other female Govs. and Senators of this great nation. The female votes she is going to get is from the women who were already going to vote for McCain AND she may cause the loss of some of those. The population of Alaska is about the size of Baltimore Md. (looked it up) why don't they run the Mayor of Baltimore for VP. I don't know who that is either. I am a woman and plan to vote on the issues, by the way haven't heard anything new coming from the McCain camp except BAU (Business as usual).

MANY AMERICANS CAN RELATE TO HER...

Not women, unfortunately. Palin has the life no woman wants; 5 kids, a low achieving husband and a pregnant teen.

You add VP on top of that, and its an accident waiting to happen.

What is really disturbing is...she is either on her back, or, on her feet working.

Sets woman back, at least, a, hundred years.

ON POLICY

On top of it all, she wants to take away other women's choices, so their life can look just like hers.

The last thing we want to see, for the next 4 years is this woman working herself to death. And, possibly pumping out more babies, herself.

Apparently, at 44 years old, she is not using birth control, either, and, she is a career politician. Not, good judgment. 7 distractions and counting...

I doubt seriously if her speech will matter.

ON ANOTHER NOTE..

It is quite clear that John McCain has a judgment problem, too. To drop this type of bombshell on a Friday evening, along, with all the mainstream media outlets choosing to show non-stop, three day coverage of a hurricane. Big, big mistake.

Since, we weren't getting any news on Palin from MSM, we hit the net. Traffic was heavy and the information on Palin was in abundance. Newspaper articles--Anchorage Daily News, New York Times, Washington Post, Huffington Post, Politico, etc. Too many to list. Between the newspapers, blogs, pictures and videos, it wouldn't take a high school graduate--to piece together the puzzle called "Sarah Palin". At one point, I couldn't keep up. I was on the computer all day intrigued by all the information.

Before, anyone, could vote for McCain/Palin we would need to see their medical records which is a standard request for any campaign. Psychological evaluations for McCain and DNA testing and medical records of the down syndrome baby which they introduced into the process.

I saw a professional video, by a film crew online, of Palin who was suppose to be pregnant, and was hiking around Alaska. Coupled with the high risk behavior; flying over 8 months pregnant. This cannot be true, somebody, get the airline on the record saying so. Not, tabloid but questionable, and we want answers.

The daughter, announcement of the 5 month pregnancy, was a bone thrown to dispell rumors.

McCain needs to produce hard evidence of such, not words. How do we know the daughter is 5 months pregnant? That could be a cover up. It dispells nothing without proof. That explains the feeding frenzy. To top it off, I am in shock the National Enquirer is on this thing.

If they come up with something before Mc Cain and Palin announce it; the Republican brand is officially dead and the laughing stock of the world, along with America. The British have bets going on this election. The odds are against McCain because of the Palin pick.

Oh, and go read some Jewish women, blogs. The debate is quality over quantity in reference to good parenting, and, one, Jewish woman put it...A good mother provides both.

She may be pretty, but her record and policies are not.

PALIN IN A NUTSHELL: A jack of all trades, and a master at none.

RedPhilly,
Your logic is convoluted and full of if's. If we loose Obama or McCain, Obama's ticket is going to have more experience, obviously. But you have to compare the top of the ticket. No Repbulican has said Palin has had more experience than McCain, only Dem's with selective hearing and/or a wild imagination.

Seth,
You're assuming that the primary reason for picking Palin is because she's a woman. Although she was picked in part to appeal to women, that's not the only reason. For one thing, she's the only one outside Washington, DC on the two tickets. The leftist media seems to have convinced everyone that it's a stupid (and obvious) ploy by McCain, when in reality their basic assumptions are wrong.

Is Geo Soros having a sleep over, or what?

>>>A selection for a political position is "political". Must be an Ivy League observation, way beyond my comprehension.

I would hope those high IQ numbers of yours would help you understand that politics chooses the leaders of this country. Politics is NOT just for politics' sake.

Again I say to the GOP: DUHHHH!

>>>Ethan, what do you think about them having that lunch yesterday and not inviting us?

No idea what you're talking about, sorry.

And she's obviously nothing more than just another GOP McShill, but I would still love to have lunch with Sarah Palin. I love mooseburgers and hockey is my fav sport. She's clearly a political embarrassment but then again, that has been the style of Alaska politics for decades. Cronyism and out-and-out corruption (usually centered around oil).

Time for the AK Dems to clean house! Go Begich! Go Berkowitz (and how can ya not like this guy Berkowitz, an Alaska Dem named Ethan! Love it. :P)

i agree with many previous posters in the fact that i for one woman would not vote for mccain/palin just because of a female being on the ticket. that is ludicrous.....john mccain has always been shallow when it comes to women. he craps on a perfectly good woman for a piece of eye candy...and now of all the smart intelligent republican women he could have chosen he chooses some unknown who belongs more on jerry springer than anywhere near our white house. her pregnancy /labor story is rediculous. i too am a mom of 5 and a nurse....and honestly her details are fishy. her family needs her.

No, it's actually people who have brains who are offended with GOP hackery.

Not like you'd know what a room full of smart, thoughtful people was like. You and your ilk are probably too busy searching The Google for "Palin hot photos". So easily distracted, the GOP.

But, I'll give you an 'out'. Tell me, oh great gullible friend. Why do you hate George Soros?

Is it his contributions to political campaigns that oppose yours?

Is it his work on behalf of freedom in Eastern European countries?

Is it that he is a wealthy Jew?

Please. Do tell.

We need to give up the thought that voters are making an informed decision. It is obvious to me that the GOP has learn without a doubt what psycho babble will work with the American people. I for the first time have actually taken note of the political process in regard to the Presidential election and I am shock we the Americans are not in a worst mess. It seems most of us vote based on our internal bias and could care less about the issues and what is BEST for our country. The GOP has successfully divided the country into a multitude of issues ie gender, race, religion, class, and other non issues. I am a democrat female and I believe without a shadow of doubt that the REPUBLICANS will prevail because the majority of the American people are idiots. So let me congratulate the 2 MAVERICKS NOW ON A CAMPAIGN WELL RUN. Today the GOP released to the media all of the talking points on the internet, TV news, and Democratic staff members revealing what GOP believe to be sexist remark another attempt to fire up the Females.

I am lost for words! I do not believe that the old deep rooted male shouvinist pigs of the republican party can stand idle-ly by and allow McCain to destroy this party with this person. She is certainly a maverick. She is backstabbing, devisive, obstructing, and scorn. All the qualities of an unstable person that has no clue about the struggles of real americans with real jobs and real challenges. Alaska is not even a normal american state. God help us! Her dirty laundry is much bigger than we know. Rumors of posing for playboy, her baby is her youngest daughters, and so on. If you notice, she never holds the little boy. Hmmmmmmmm!

desperate at this point sorry, we women are not that stupid. She will be just another puppet on a

Well I'm glad women have standards. Now lets talk about how nearly 100% of blacks are voting Obama, and why that is the case. Apparently they're not as sensitive about being manipulated.

I believe that is sexist to think that the democratic women voters would just vote for a woman because Hillary, who worked hard for the nomination will not be on the ticket. I would hate for all the hard work that Hillary has done to be used as easy access to a woman that has not put in the work, fight, nor believes in the issues that Hillary has championed for. I believe that Barack has similar to views as Hillary and respects women tremendously which shows in his record. I believe that he tries to make thoughtful decisions and thinks about the effects of them even if he must change his position for the betterment of the group. While Palin may be a nice person, I do not believe that she stands for the change that the country is looking for. She has got a lot of attention because of her looks (which is not a attribute that men have to be subjected to) and because she should shake up the Republican party with her reform and resistance. Realistically I have not known of the Republicans to really like a lot of shake up and change, unless there is a benefit to the party itself. So I do think that this impromptu decision was a political one and not the most logical or carefully thought out one for this election.

psycobabble? Have you heard Obama?

A Wasillan On Sarah Palin
02 Sep 2008 11:34 am

This was posted in the comments section on the Washington Independent by Alaskan and a Wasillan, Anne Kilkenny, someone who has followed Sarah Palin very, very closely - with too many city council meetings under her belt - not to say her piece. She seems the kind of person that a professional vetting system would have found, and debriefed. We're talking small town politics here as well, so bear that in mind. And I've reproduced only the gist here - go read the original for much more. But after you read this, you begin to realize that there can have been almost no vetting whatsoever:

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents. During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall campaign. Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%.
This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents. The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece of property that the City didn’t even have clear title to, that was still in litigation 7 yrs later--to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing. While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office redecorated more than once. These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.

As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state. In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today's surplus, borrow for needs. She’s not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren’t generated by her or her staff. Ideas weren’t evaluated on their merits, but on the basis of who proposed them.

While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing from the library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residents rallied to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin's attempt at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew her termination letter. People who fought her attempt to oust the Librarian are on her enemies list to this day. Sarah complained about the “old boy’s club” when she first ran for Mayor, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of "old boys". Palin fired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as Governor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people, creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally grateful and fiercely loyal--loyal to the point of abusing their power to further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the case of pressuring the State’s top cop (see below).

As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla’s Police Chief because he “intimidated” her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska's top cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure and she had every legal right to fire him, but it's pretty clear that an important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn't fire her sister's ex-husband, a State Trooper. Under investigation for abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozen contacts were made between her staff and family to the person that she later fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried to replace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimanded for sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrew her support.

She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in help. The City Council person who personally escorted her around town introducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She abruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn’t like the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness. Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything publicly about her.

When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah got the best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one of the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had no background in oil & gas issues. Within months of scoring this great job which paid $122,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about the high salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, the structured hours, the work. Sarah became aware that a member of this Commission (who was also the State Chair of the Republican Party) engaged in unethical behavior on the job. In a gutsy move which some undoubtedly cautioned her could be political suicide, Sarah solved all her problems in one fell swoop: got out of the job she hated and garnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint of ethics and as a gutsy fighter against the “old boys’ club” when she dramatically quit, exposing this man’s ethics violations (for which he was fined).

As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork from Senator Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigated his pork-barrel politics and publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the “bridge to nowhere” after it became clear that it would be unwise not to. As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budget guidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoing projects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislative action restored most of these projects--which had been vetoed simply because she was not aware of their importance--but with the unobservant she had gained a reputation as “anti-pork”. She is solidly Republican: no political maverick. The State party leaders hate her because she has bit them in the back and humiliated them. Other members of the party object to her self-description as a fiscal conservative.

Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah. They call her “Sarah Barracuda” because of her unbridled ambition and predatory ruthlessness. When Sarah's mother-in-law, a highly respected member of the community and experienced manager, ran for Mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her. As Governor, she stepped outside of the box and put together of package of legislation known as “AGIA” that forced the oil companies to march to the beat of her drum.

Like most Alaskans, she favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. She has questioned if the loss of sea ice is linked to global warming. She campaigned “as a private citizen” against a state initiaitive that would have either a) protected salmon streams from pollution from mines, or b) tied up in the courts all mining in the state (depending on who you listen to). She has pushed the State’s lawsuit against the Dept. of the Interior’s decision to list polar bears as threatened species. McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President; Sarah will be a heartbeat away from being President. There has to be literally millions of Americans who are more knowledgeable and experienced than she. However, there’s a lot of people who have underestimated her and are regretting it.

I was on the fence about McCain, but this pick ad basically showing us what the Republican
s think of women (we'll just vote for any set of ovaries) I am pretty sure I will give Obama a shot. He only chose her because he needed the Evangelical Christian vote. I am not a big fan of abortion, but if you are going to be against abortion in cases of incest or rape, them forget it. There has to be some limits, some flexibility. Fundamentalist beliefs are bad, just ask the Middle East. I want a separation between church and state. Remember the Constitution! The GOP has just made a Karl Rove play and it sure stinks.

I find it interesting that so many democrats on here are calling their fellow Americans "idiots." Let me tell you one thing: CNN and her liberal partners are doing an injustice to the American people. Viewers look to the news as a source of unbiased facts; however, CNN soley serves as a major part of the campaign for any democratic nominee. It truly is disappointing as I have watched CNN for years, but can no longer stand to see the hosts attack Republican guests and ask the easiest questions to the Democrats, allowing them to go off and make FALSE statements and themselves be the biggest hipocrits of all. Let me address a couple of their statements:

1) Sarah Palin is a hipocrit. What? Because her daughter made a mistake and is pregnant, Sarah Palin is a hipocrit? This is laughable. She did not change her politics on no sex education, did she? Her daughter made a mistake, and Sarah Palin is doing exactly what she would hope other Americans would do as well -- be there for her daughter and give all the support she can. In absolutely NO WAY is that hipocritical.

2) Palin has no experience. Again, what? First, I would like to point out that she has more executive experience than any of the four nominees on either ticket. Second, how can one say she has no experience when she's run a state and been the chief executor of Alaska's army for 2 years? Furthermore, she was mayor and has served her community...JUST as Barack has claimed he has gotten his experience...working in his community. If I were a democrat, which I was considering Barack before the Palin announcement, I would back off of the "experience" issue, as it only opens up a flow of criticism towards him.

3) Nobody even knows who Palin is. All I will say about this is: I had NO IDEA who Barack was a year ago, maybe less. She is a governor of one of our fifty states!

4) John McCain did not properly vet Palin. Just because the public is not "in" on the vetting proccess absolutely does not mean that McCain and his advisors and team did not properly vet her. He has all the resources possible available to him. I'm sure he can do a much better job vetting the lady than can CNN. It's laughable that CNN thinks they can find some trivial fact such as Palin's husband got a DUI at the age of 22, and that not be knowledge to somebody who has secret service working for him. Please! The vetting was PRIVATE - that's why CNN did not know about it.

If we want to attack any vice presidential candidate -- look at Biden. Hipocritical? ... I thought Obama wanted change? Yet, he picked somebody who's been in Washington for how long? Hmmm...maybe CNN should talk about that for once? But noooo...that would cause the American people to see a slightly negative aspect of its beloved party.

The 100% of Blacks are democrates that is why we are voting for Obama. Just as we voted for Clinton and Carter. Race has nothing to do with what we are doing. The question is why would you vote for Bush twice? Because he is the republican choice just as McCain is. To bad you have no real choice, Bob!

I have sat here and read all of the comments made by the "General public" I had to sit back and laugh at all of it. I am a neutral party looking to put my vote towards the candidate of the greater good. It is obvious that most of the comments were made by democrates tired of having a rebulican in the house for the last 8 yrs. However, I don't feel that people should throw stones... So what Palin is a women... So what her teenager is preagnate, ( if you haven't noticed there is alot of teen pregnacy. Her daughter is old enough by now to make her own deicions duh.... Now maybe politians will do something about it!) So what she is republican. On the other side I have Obama... He is the first colored canidate elect ever... with little experiance, who has had made his very own bad decions in his very young adult life. Drugs and bascially a drift in the wind it is in his very own book. Yet you don't critisize him...???? Just because he is black make everything okay??? So the point I am making is every politician has a scandle, has made bad choices, example. Clinton! He cheated on his wife in the white house embarrasse his country and his family and friends. Yet, we can forgive him. Pick your poison I suppose. I think Palin is the mold of the avrage american. She is a working mother that is in the spotlight. I don't care what color is who and what gender is they. I just want all of these judgemental people to stop and look at the bigger picture. Who has the most expericance... Macain and his team or Obama... I think it is obvious.

I was leaning strongly toward Obama so far in the general election and voted for him in the primary, but I have to admit that now that Palin is on board with McCain, I'm taking a second look at the Republican ticket. Maybe even a third look. She's mesmerizing, and anyone fighting corruption is bound to make vocal enemies, so I'm unconvinced about the really negative hype surrounding her since she was named the candidate for VP. Furthermore, Dick Cheney has been hugely involved, as was Al Gore, when VP, so it does matter who is selected. Experience is less important because that's what you pick talented advisors and personnel for. As for Palin setting women back, why on earth would they say that about someone who keeps her young children in the office with her? I would think that would be a great advance for women, so who exactly is being extreme and militant here by objecting to her? Politicians will make political decisions, what's to be so cynical about that? McCain has shown he's still got the goods when it comes to shrewd decision-making, no matter what his age.

To the post on Anne Kilkenny's letter.

It's very negatively biased against Palin (despite Dem's praising how balanced the assessment is), and to be honest, if she did all that, I doubt she would have the 80% approval rating she has in Alaska. Ms. Kilkenny should admit that she isn't just a Democrat, but a sore loser since Palin knocked out the corrupt Democratic governor before her.

This isn't limited to the Democrats though. It's the same slander tactic as what the Republicans did when Clinton was running the first time. Desperate people are the ones that usually do the mud-slinging.

The subject matter and tone of some of these blogs are beyond offensive.

“Independent Vote” (an obvious Democratic hack)

Are you really attempting to support the Democratic Party by criticizing a professionally successful mother? If there is any psychological examining to be done, “Independent Vote” clearly is an ideal candidate hiding behind a computer “all day” with a condescending if not repulsive attitude towards woman. No one seemed to question Joe Biden as a dedicated father because he has served in Congress. You can just smell the sexism reaping from the Democratic Party. Does a successful woman scare you that much that you have to spew hatful stereo types?

“Palin has the life no woman wants; 5 kids, a low achieving husband and a pregnant teen.”

If she were only unemployed, then Joe Biden could have told us a nice sad story about her in his speech saying that she was just a good American that just needs some help. But, the fact is she has worked her way up through the political system by fighting corruption in her own party.

Then there’s the sickening blogesphere accusations that you refer to regarding Governor Palin’s child. There is a special place in hell for those that exploit children for personal gain and there’s a special seat with your name on it.

Is it me or have the BAR to be come PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES HAS BEEN LOWERED just so we can declare change ?? Give me a break this woman maybe be a qualified for many cabinet positions but Mccain pick her over Romney and all the others guys C'mon. Can we be real here America!!! I know he had to do something and Yes she a great and drums up the based But Mccain met this woman ONCE! I repeat ONCE! . Sorry but thats impulsive no matter how we try to rationalize it, and for a 72 year old man running for president we have had 8 years of impulsive decision making. This was his first major decision and look at all the controversy and its not because shes a woman. I'am independent WE AS AMERICAN cannot afford either party to be careless on the direction our country is going. No matter what your party affiliation is.When we do we become blinded by party loyalty. Look what that got us in the last 8 years. Here we go again.

Why is this herald great example of a pro-life mother never seen holding her child or ever showing affection toward him?

Questions: If this woman knew the daughter was pregnant before she accepted McCain's offer; why would she choose to expose this poor girl to the nonsense of politics. By her own admission Palin did know. This seemed to me a very selfish thing for a mother to do. Palin has been reported as saying the girl only told her recently, excuse me but the girl is 5 months along. So is Palin saying that she; the faithful loving soccer mom couldn't tell if the girl was pregnant, apparently until a few days ago. 3 months can be hidden; but 5; is she stupid or too busy? Did Palin's husband know and when? No one has heard from either one of them.
Palin's Mayoral opponent was her mother in law; did the girls grandparents know, perhaps she could have helped the girl? She or some other family member could comfort the girl while mom's was off being vetted.
Question: If Palin told McCain when ever she did, why did he not make it public a lot sooner; especially if and he and the Repubs question everybody else's morals; not he girl, mind you, but the mother's and McCain's obvious attempt to cover this up.
Question: Why is it everytime someone ask these questions does the press allow MCCain and his cronies accuse people of attacking the girl. Or they bring out the family privacy thing.
I feel sorry for the girl, but we the taxpaying citizen's have a right to ask these questions and get something more than lofty, glittering answers.
We have a right to know if this woman if this woman can be trusted!!! We have the right ask questions about her integrity and questionable morals the repubs are so proud of accusing us lesser mortals of not having.
Palin and the father brought this own themselves and that poor girl; not the press or those of us who deserve not to be treated like Limbaughs ditto heads.
P.S. Will someone explain to me why Alaska wants to seceede from the US; apparently that's what Palin's husband thinks. At some point will we have to fight another civil war with the Alaskans. Some reporter recenty quoted Kinky Freidman, saying that John McCain needed a check up from the neck up. I disagree I think McCain and any body dumb enough to vote for him (no disrespect to his war record)or this woman needs a pre frontal lobotomy.
question: Does it bother anybody but me that James Dobson, Hannity and Rush prayed for it to rain on fellow Americans at the DNC. Folks; I think we have a problem and it's not Barack Obama.

Sarah Palin needs a priority check and the fact that she has put her young family "next in line" to her own professional advancement, and that McCain asked it and expected it of her, makes my decision easy.
Her life is at risk every day as VP. Her infant special needs son needs her, especially in the next 8 years, the first 8 years of his life. Furthermore, all this being said about her daughter's pregnancy - YES it matters because she is not just a pregnant daughter who is established in her own right, she is a TEENAGE pregnant daughter who is probably scared out of her mind and will be raising an infant/toddler of her own over the next eight years and could use a mother who is at her side once in a while. So to anyone who says this pregnancy should not have any bearing on Palin's nomination, I say you need to take a look at the greater picture.
I am a woman and a republican and I am ashamed of my gender and my party right now for putting themselves above and forefront of their families, when there were other choices.

Amazing what that link to HotAir will do.

I have been pandered to by the democratic party for a couple decades now with "If you don't vote for my far left extremist nut job candidate you will lose Roe v Wade". Well, I am sick of this red herring used to go after my vote. These sexist pigs are already toting how disqualified Palin is just as they did with Hillary... saying crap such as~You women remember-she is an IDIOT that will take away your right to choose you BETTER get behind us or you will be SORRY--You will be heading for back steet alley abortions...OH PLEEEEEAAAAAAAAAse! If some one wants an abortion they are going to get on the bus and go to Canada. So let's get past this red herring issue. I am just not going to fall for that stupid line EVER again. Let's move on to issues that concern me. Corporate taxes in the USA are the second highest in the world. making us less competitive and sending our companies to a more fiscally friendly country. Obama's tax code is a KILLER. Yes, according to Obama we are all going to get a chicken in the pot..and he will reduce everybodies taxes. That's right the deficit is record high but we are going to get a tax break. Reminds me of George H W Bush's comment--"Read my lips no new taxes" Right before we got slammed. What did Obama do with his donated funds he held an extravagaza befitting a Roman Emperor in the Coliseum before the lions were sicked on the Christians. His district has 10.25% sales tax the highest in the country. Actions speak way louder than words to me. Sarah Palin gave her constituents a tax break. I have met recently with people from Palin's home town (they have a second home near mine in PA) because I am the skeptic of skeptics. I have decided that Sarah is way more qualified that Obama at EVERYTHING! It's time for her hubby to step to the plate and take care of the kiddies for awhile. And as far as McCain being what some say--"Older than dirt" Heck his mom is still living he must have some awesome GENES. I'm not worried. Obama has to start on day one she does not! So yes, this Conservative Feminist is voting for the Better Qualified GIRL!--Oh, yes how old were Romeo and Juliet...I certainly am not blaming Sarah for her daughter...Teen Age love- that is an issue no parent, no how, no way is going to control as even Shakespeare knew in the 1500's!

IS THIS ELECTION ABOUT JUDGMENT?
Sarah Pahin uses poor judgment and the GOP makes her out to be a hero!
This election should not be about Sarah Pahin not having an abortion.
This election should be about her not using the good judgment to use birth control.
Any intelligent person knows that when you choose to have unprotected sex at 43
you have a very high probability of having a child with Downs Syndrome.
The republicans are making her out to be a hero because she used the bad judgment
not to prevent the pregnancy in the first place.

Wow. So you spent some time with people from Palin's hometown and decided she is the candidate to run our country with a 72-year-old man? My, you certainly are a skeptic. You really think it is okay for her to leave her family of five children with her husband to raise so she can travel the world and give speeches and read to other children? I'm guessing you do not have or have not had five children, one of whom is pregnant and one of whom is mentally and physically challenged? If you had, you would never have even suggested that any person tackle that responsibility single handed. And what about the other three children who have become virtually invisible? I never blamed her for her daughter's pregnancy. I do blame her for deserting her daughter now.
And if you think she will have anything to say about taxes, better put away those skeptic specs because they aren't doing you much good. She can't change a thing as VP. You know that, right?
I'm curious about your comment regarding the pandering you have had to put up with from the democrats. Do you not feel pandered to for any number of things by the Republican party these past 8 years?

The greatest job on earth is that of raising another human being to impart the skills needed for them to make it in this life successfully. Palin is a strong advocate for abstinence-only programs but was not capable to implement it in her own tenure as a mother. She has failed as a mother and if this is indicative of her abilities, God help the USA if she is elected VP.

Where do I begin?
My husband and I have on more than on one occasion, debated the unfair treatment of women – in business, in politics, and by the media. He said to me that he has “no problem with a black man as president but would never vote for Hillary”. Fine –I then asked him to name a woman – ANY WOMAN – ANY PARTY for whom he would vote. He said nothing. He stared at me as if a deer caught in headlights. He does not get it. Sadly, he never will.

Who am I?
I am a 48 year old, white, middle-class, suburb living, mother of four who votes issues – not parties. I work, pay my taxes, attend church regularly, give to many charities, serve on boards, and give as much as I can to my community.

Survey this!!!!
I own guns but believe that assault weapons and their ammunition should be outlawed. I believe that capital punishment does not work, education should be free, borders should be closed, and that the right to choose belongs solely to a woman. I applaud women who choose to have children. I support those who choose to not have children.

Again – Who am I?
I am a California Republican.

My Vote?
Undecided. But whomever I choose to vote for - you can bet on the fact that I will have thought it out and will be casting my vote based on qualifications, issues, and my personal values. I am excited about our choices and our future.

Ex-Hillary voter here. When McCain chose Sarah Palin, all I could see was his cynicism, even though I admit, I was still lingering a bit in McCainland. And every time they chose to speak Hillary's name to their advantage, I got closer and closer to Obama. After today's cry of "sexism" by some in the Republican party because of the scrutiny of Palin, there can be no doubt of their cynicism.
And as I personally scrutinize her more and more, I see that she stands for nothing I believe in, though McCain never seemed to me to be that far from me.
Will it work for them, this ploy?
I think it will backfire on McCain. This is Rove politics, but this is no longer a Rove world. Those days are over. The excitement behind Obama will speak louder once the GOP convention is over this week, and he'll be elected in NOV.

Assuming McCain wanted to limit his choice to someone female and from a key oil state such as AK, why not Senator Murkowski? She has been an Alaskan senator serving the country for about six years and is quite competent for the job. Perhaps she wasn't chosen because she wasn't who the Religious Right said was okay; after all, she is Catholic (gasp)! No, she's too highly educated and walks the talk. No premarital relations news on her kids either...and even though she is constantly cleaning things up and honest, she isn't cheesy pandering to the extremists...just doing the job without drama. Why isn't that ENOUGH? It's weird to see issue-laden Palin chosen as the first Republican VP candidate. As a Republican woman, I feel so disappointed. Why is logic tossed aside in favor of banal rhetoric?

In my above post, meant to say the first FEMALE Republican VP candidate...now, for some caffeine so I can keep up with all of this "goingson"!

Of course the media has coddled Obama and thrown obstacles in the path of McCain and Palin. Just read the ongoing biased headlines and articles on CNN's website ... and the way CNN's Jack Cafferty belittles Palin every chance he gets. CNN also moderates its blogs in favor of Obama, then closes comments after the load the posts with Obama bias. Also, slim balls like Daily KOS, Huffington, and US Weekly have shown gross bad judgement in their reportin. These irresponsible media sources have lost touch with objectivity, fair reporting, and responsible journalism.

Some of the criticism directed at Palin is, indeed, sexist--such as mocking her time as a beauty contestant. But coming from the Republicans, the claim of sexism is a red herring.

McCain had a lot more time than Obama did to vet potential running mates, given that he won his party's nomination months earlier.

Regardless of what he says, whoever was vetting her did not do a good job. I am not faulting her because her daughter got pregnant, but I firmly believe she should have declined McCain's offer.
With a special needs infant and a 17-year-old mother-to-be who needs her more than ever, what is she doing accepting the offer? Having a career is fine, but should be centered around the family as priority. That is just as true of her husband or any other man.

In addition, she is under investigation and the story about her political career in Alaska--from other Alaskans at that--is decidedly less rosy than the original story. She, undoubtedly,
excites her party's base. But I suspect that her policies will not endear her to environmentalists or most of the women whose issues Hillary Clinton represents.

I am a woman who has fought for womens rights before it was the popular thing to do. If Mrs Palin choose to have five children I respect that decision however, her first responsibility is to her four month old special needs child. I cannot support someone who will puts her own political ambishion first. Yes, perhaps this opinion is sexist but I believe that love and nurturing of that child and the others at home should be her first piority.

I hope America will wake from its slumber and see the insidious propoganda McPain and Palin are fueling.

I do not feel comfortable knowing that a VP pick like Palin is next in command should for any reason McCain not be able to fulfill his presidential duties, should he be elected as US President.

And for any and all Hillary would-be voters who falls for the McCain-Palin ticket just because Palin is woman, then it's a shame.

Since almost the start of the campaign, Mccain has been an incessant bug in Obama's ear buzzing that he has no experience, and THEN he plucks Palin from NOWHERE and has this cheesy grin on his face talking with Charlie Gibson on ABC News about how he believes Palin is MOST qualified for the VP spot over Pawlenty, Ridge, Romney, Leiberman etc! Gimme a break!!!

I just finished watching tonight's RNC and the remarks by Guilliani and the speech by Palin was a trail of diabtribe language toward Obama. Isn't it interesting how they stayed clear of mentioning anything about President Bush, whose approval ratings are the lowest they've ever been?

Did anyone see the camera shots on Huckabee? I think he actually looked uncomfortable, almost as if he was ashamed to be there.

I sure hope America wakes from its slumber, otherwise we risk becoming comatose should the McCain-Palin ticket prevail.

You have to ask yourself some questions regarding Palin.
If Hillary was the Democratic nominee, would McCain have picked Palin?
If not, then has he picked the best person for the job?

If the answer is no on both questions then you have to ask yourself whether McCain's decision making is good enough to be the most powerful person in the world.

Also, imagine if McCain and Palin were running America during the Cuban missile crisis in the sixties. Would we even be here today communicating across the internet?

The internet? Ha! Considering McCain doesn't even know how to use e-mail and has joked that he isn't "computer friendly?" It's not amusing. It's horrific. It is a crucial deficiency of his that our enemies will find very useful. What does the future hold if the leader of the top world country can't use the simplest of technology in a day when technology is literally connecting us to the world?

Palin is no Hillary...Period end of story. I am sicken by the women who are impressed with just because. We do have things in common, I too am a mother and a wife and a business women but that is it. We share none of the same political views. Wake up women!!! If you vote against your values...You will pay!!
