Seriously?

There was a moment during the WH Dem primary when Barack Obama's campaign, facing a backlash for interpreting every critique as a subtle form of racism, backed off that strategy. Following their over-the-top response tonight to Obama's "lipstick on a pig" comment (complete with hastily arranged conference call and breathless demand for apology), is the McCain-Palin campaign facing a similar moment right now?

It was a smart move by Obama's camp in the primary. Their reaction only served to highlight the racial divide he said he wanted to bridge; it solidified his identity to a form of politics he vowed to move the country beyond. And then there's this: there's little that angers African-Americans more than racism. And rightly so. But as the Obama campaign learned, there's little that angers, well, anyone more than false charges of racism. And rightly so.

Same goes for sexism, folks. And rightly so. McCain-Palin, it's your move.

Don't believe me? Check out Mike Huckabee's thoughts on Obama's comment, expressed tonight on FNC's Hannity & Colmes: "It's an old expression, and I'm going to have to cut Obama some slack on that one. I do not think he was referring to Sarah Palin; he didn't reference her. If you take the two soundbites together, it may sound like it. But I've been a guy at the podium may times, and you say something that's maybe a part of an old joke and then somebody ties it in. So, I'm going to have to cut him slack."

And finally, let's not forget John McCain's own comments from 10/07, when asked about Hillary Clinton's '93 health-care plan. "I think they put some lipstick on a pig. But it's still a pig."

So ... was McCain calling Clinton a pig?

Please. Seriously.

That gang is the biggest bunch of Bush flunkies I've ever seen. Or what, are they ALL mavericks now? Please. It's just so lame.

Once again, we see nothing but lip service and distraction by the reality-challenged Republican Party.

Palin is not a "pig with lipstick" but she is "cheney with lipstick".

McCain has used the same line.

Mccain has been caught with his pants down.

please! why is nobody going after her extreme right-wing views? she is the Clarence Thomas in this race and McCain is being shown as the lying hack he has always been (despite his friends in the media) by his acceptance of her on his ticket. Country first? by bringing us more lies and hypocrisy, lies and bellicosity, lies and theocracy...not for this senior citizen, white, Jewish woman

There would have been no need for a Surge if Bush & Co. had not taken the U.S. into a Phony & Pretend War on Terrorism while the Real War on Terrorism in Afghanistan where Bin Ladin lived, was ignored! And if we do not Wise up this might happen in the future!

I agree with Barak Obama, Palin is a pig. Women have no place in politics, they should stay at home where they belong. They are incapable of making rational decisions concerning the welfare of our country. You can say that he was talking about something else but the truth is that as a man I know exactly what he meant, and he is right. I believe he was also using his head to leave himself a plausible deniability on this subject. women should have never been GRANTED the right to vote, this was stupid. Once the brother is in office we can start to right alot of other wrongs that have been around for the past three hundred years. Barak Obama is a change we can believe in, we will prevail.

Obama is not one to talk about flip flopping on the issues or change. However, if McCain had made the comment that this was the pot calling the kettle black everyone would have been coming out of the woodwork calling McCain a racist, when in fact, this is just an old country expression that has nothing to do with race. Its merely the color of cook wares. Of course Obama meant what he said. And he will deny it. He should not try to make up his speeches on the fly, hes just too inexperienced and not that articulate. I'm just glad he wasn't trying to communicate to someone of importance in a time of crisis. There's no telling how foreigners would take it. As much as he was stutering you would think his brain could have caught up with his mouthOn the lighter side, I think its safe to say hes not much of a comedian either.
