"Hey, Can I Call You Joe?"

That's how Sarah Palin greeted Joe Biden this evening as their first and only debate commenced in St. Louis.

Here we go.

Sarah Pralin can joke, laugh and call Him Joe but she is obviously not ready or qualified to be in the White House a VP.

Sarah Palin is not too bright, she proved it again tonight. It's annoying and patronizing to the American people how she talks with that fake "folksy" tone. Is that what she thinks of Middle America ? That the people are ignorant and use poor english ? Sarah Palin, you are not like me,nor how I wish my children to be. I want them and our Vice President to be smarter and better informed.

Palin is a joke. I can't believe she did a "shout out" to 3rd graders during a serious debate for the 2nd highest spot in the Executive Branch of the United States Government. Are you KIDDING me? She comes off as ill informed, unprofessional, dimwitted, and totally wrong for the job. McCain's judgement is so fouled up, it's ridiculous. The entire McCain campaign is a total turn off for me and every one I know. I agree with the previous poster; Palin is not like me. I would not strive to be like her, nor would I hang out with people like her.

Well..I think more people watched tonight...just waiting. Waiting to see if we were going to see a Katie Couric or SNL ( Tina Fey ) repeat.

I was surprised to say, I think Sarah Palin did very well.

I think that she had been so beat up....by the media, the comedians, etc. that her confidence level had fallen. The Sarah Palin we saw tonight was the same Sarah Palin we saw at the Republican National Convention.

My one complaint....she sounds like a hick.

She needs to pronounce her words the proper way...say "something"..instead of "somethin'...and the list goes on and on.

She needs to remember she is to represent America....and sound a bit more educated.

I am not too sure of Biden. One week before Barack Obama chose him, Biden said that he did not feel Obama was ready to become President or even qualified. The week after Obama chose Biden...he was playing the crowds kissing babies with Obama by his side.

He sort of reminds me more of a car salesman than a VP candidate. Well maybe...there isn't much difference.

It boggles my mind that a debate for the second most powerful position in this land is being judged by whether someone can exceed expectations that they will not look like a complete idiot. What have we come to?

"Hey Joe, say it ain't so"

What is this? Leave it to Beaver? I didn't like how she completely ignored answering the questions (although all politicians do it, she actually had the temerity to say she wouldn't). She basically read prepared points and attack lines, that's not a debate!

If I were the moderator, and she would've said that to me, I would've said "ok, you want to violate the rules of the debate? Then you can leave".

But more shocking than anything said by Palin was the desire to reinterpret Article 1 of the Constitution, and make the vice-president have more power than proscribed by the Constitution, thereby screwing up checks and balances.

And you what...McCain-Pain will win in 08 because people are so susceptible to fear-mongering and sound bites.

Palin did a good job sounding folksy and appealing to her base, the conservative republicans who embrace her ideas.

However, she failed to convince the swing voters that she has a true grasp of the issues that really matter in this election. For instance, the economy and foreign policy. She skirted around the real issues and chose to speak "directly" to the public rather than answer the questions that really matter to the independents: the economy and foreign policy. She gave no specific answers to any of the real questions. She did not prove herself to be an expert or even a novice on the economy or foreign policy. Instead she used her time to talk about her experience in Alaska politics, which does not translate to experience in the national arena. Palin simply stated her position as a maverick without giving any details as to why she is a maverick or why her running mate claims to be a maverick. Empty promises and empty examples. To her credit she seemed much more informed than she did during her recent interviews, but she did little to change the independents view of her lack of experience and knowledge. Only true conservative republicans will be energized by her debate. Others will still wait and see if she is up for the challenge.

Does anybody but me find it strange that "Todd", the babies dad, never seems to hold the baby. The times I've seen them together, the kids are the caregiver to this infant, and even Sarah never holds the child very long. Since she's the one running for office I kinda understand her not holding the baby, but the dad?? I just find it strange......They have made a point to say the baby is a special needs child, but neither parent seems to be too excited to show just how much this child means to them (at least in public). At least this is my read..

Why is it seen as positive that she's "folksy"? I don't want someone who can't speak professionally when she needs to! Even President Bush knows when to turn that garbage off and on. If a man that arrogant knows when to behave - why can't she? Because she can't?

Also, why is no one talking about the beautiful, REAL moment that Sen. Biden had in talking about single parenting? That's a man who gets it!

I'm from Texas, raised in the hill country surrounded by horses and cowboys. Folksy?? Who the heck are these people that say Palin is "charming" and "likeable" and "one of us"? I travel all over this big state every week. I'm in constant contact with a very diverse group of people on a daily basis. I've met NO ONE that think she's even likeable.
She's sarcastic, snide, condescending and just plain rude and annoying.
Are people saying these things because they think they're showing respect? Like how Obama always says he respects McCain as a hero even though getting captured and tortured doesn't make you anything other than a victim?
I'm a veteran of the first Iraq war. I served proudly in special ops with the best of the best. What I respect is that he didn't crack and held his own, but it doesn't make you a hero.
Start talking honestly about what this is: McCain picked a woman as a tactic. Period. He doesn't give a !@#$ about her - only what she can give him in terms of votes. Now, it's biting him in the ass because she is a novice with power ambitions but no depth at all in terms of understanding government or history. She's incurious in exactly the same way as George W. Bush.
The emperor has no clothes and somebody needs to grow a pair and start saying it publicly.
(btw I'll gladly supply proof of my service if you have doubts)

Folksy??? No, she sounds and acts like a rude, disrespectful teenager not a mature professional. America doesn't need a teenager a stones throw from the Presidency and she sure will not be respected by International Leaders. I guess that is why McCain had to chaperone her on Couric and why she has not been allowed to answer questions.

It appeared during the entire debate that Palin was selling herself for president more than McCain. Which, is fine and all, but when asked about what her duties would be as VP, it sounded like McCain wanted her to just sit in the shadows for 4 years. It seemed almost as if McCain didn't exist to her until Biden brought him up in the debate and she had to defend him on principle. According to the fact checker on CNN, she did a terrible and misleading job of that, as well.

I agree with the previous comments on her "folksy" mannerisms. I feel insulted that she believes the average American citizen speaks and acts in those ways. It makes me weep a little inside thinking that, with every word that falls out of her mouth, she's not only making female politicians look like uncouth, uneducated rednecks but possibly all American women in general (and the world is watching). She doesn't give me confidence that she's a leader or someone who could lead others easily. I would also feel scared if she were to ever have a hand in foreign diplomacy. There are idioms (plenty of which I'm sure she uses) and mannerisms that are OK here in the States and parts of Europe but could be possibly be misinterpreted as hostile or insulting to other cultures. The "folksiness" would end up being a double edged blade in those instances.

I expected Palin to do well doing the debate. However, I'm still not convinced she is qualified to be VP of our country. I am a republican and I want individuals in the White House to speak professionally when talking to the public...not "folksy". Maybe I'm wrong..but is it correct english to end a sentence with "also"? She ended many of her comments using also many times...during the debate and during her few interviews prior to the debate. I'm voting for the democratic ticket in November.

One other thing...

nuke-u-ler?!

Obama knows how to say it, McCain knows how to say it, so does Biden, Clinton, Romney, good lord Huckabee even!!!

I thought we were finally done with idiots that can't even pronounce the deadliest weapon in the history of mankind!

Go home Sarah and take your uneducated way of talking back to the wilderness. "W" will meet ya there.

HOW I RATE PALIN DEBATE PERFORMANCE
P - Pathetic Answers
A - Annoying Voice
L - Lacking Knowledge
I - Insignificant Responses
N - Nailed by Biden

Joe I love the nuke-u-ler comment. After she said that all I could think of is the Simpons episode where Homer incorrectly pronounced the same word the same way. I do not want anyone anywhere near the vice presidency who reminds me of Homer Simpson.

Biden was clearly the winner! And although Palen was coached heavily, she still acted like a giddy school girl who just won a prize by cheating (facial gestures looked at times like she just got even, or got caught with her panties down). She seems to get off by proving the male species wrong....Feminist Mentality. Says she's a "NORMAL MOM"? Normal Moms stay home and use their "Maternal Instinct" to nurture their children. Go Figure, Mammary's to feed child? womb to have child? And they clearly don't need a double income, like the rest of us "NORMAL FAMILIES" ...Believe me, I could go on, and on.......

btw. Who was the other moron who gave Palen all the kudos...ED ROLLINS? This guy is the epitome of "DUMBER THAN A BOX OF ROCKS" Watching him for years on Lou Dobbs, and the only thing he laughs at is his own stupid jokes. Rarely does he have anything intelligent to say, and if he does, it's in agreement with "LOU DOBBS" (butt sucker).

Palen? IMO, America's LAUGHING STOCK! Are we Americans that ignorant and uneducated? Hillary Blows her away (although she is known for lying), and OBAMA/BIDEN Make her and McBlame look like two bumbling idiots. The Answer to who best fits the roll of LEADERSHIP (INTEGRITY/INTELLIGENT/More concern for others than self), is BARRACK "The Rock" OBAMA and JOE (COOL) BIDEN.

Serving time in the Military, destroying 5 planes, bombing villages of farmers and children, getting captured, and being a so called "Maverick" in passing un-important legislation is imo, no pre-requisite for being a "LEADER" of an entire country, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE NEED A QUALIFIED LEADER MOST!

The answer is "NO" WE AS TAX PAYERS CAN NO LONGER AFFORD TO PAY FOR A WAR THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN STARTED IN THE FIRST PLACE! We not only lost those in the twin towers, but over 5 years of going nowhere fast. WTF? BUSH/CHAINEY SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH TREASON! Strike that, sent to a mental institution for the CRIMINALLY INSANE!!! Between them, Henry Paulson, and Ben Bernanke their bleeding us DRY! And don't tell me they "ALL" don't play "WALL ST." "The Blind Leading the Blind, We All Fall Into the Pit"...and were heading there fast!!!

And yes! it is "OUR MORAL AND RELIGIOUS OBLIGATION TO "ALWAYS" Do The RIGHT THING!
END THIS WAR NOW! Young Kids (barely adults) who've never really experienced life are being severely INJURED and are DYING IN VAIN! IMO, BUSH and CHAINEY'S HIRED HIT MEN! and all for the interest of BIG OIL....Uhhh GLOBAL WARMING! You can't reverse the melting ICE CAPS (and big weather changes...can the earth tilt from weight displacement?...and up to 2000 mile an hour winds? Not one grain of sand will be left standing...Read the book of Revelation), but we can at least try to slow it down! Which btw, should be our 1st and foremost moral and religious obligation/priority to the next generation, our Children and their Children's Children. MONEY and MATERIAL ITEMS do not feed you, it's those things you like to eat and breath that will soon be at risk, combined with a 3rd world war to end all end all's.

Again! Palen is a novelty act, let's get real people!

AMERICAN CITIZEN "NO PARTY AFFILIATION" INDEPENDENT Robert Hamblin

She makes George Bush look like a genius.

Im glad someone is finally speaking up. I cant remember the last time Ive heard anyone speak in the tones that Palin has. What does charm have to do with debate? You answer the question, quickly and as acurate as possible and move on. I didnt hear hear answer many question. I heard her blow off the same statement that McCain said in the previous debate. If the Republicans win.. I sure as hell hope McCain takes his vitamins and live to see 100. We would go straight through hell if something happenned to that man and she became President. You think things are bad now,,America you better wake up..Forget about race and Focus on whats best for America and your country!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! This is the person that MAY become the President of the United States if something happens to McCain? I feel like McCain is playing a joke! VP is a serious position and what is up with this folksy attitude? Plus, Palin answered jack during the debate. CLEARLY, she knew nothing and can only blabber the same thing over and over again. She was a broken record! Surely people can't want some average Jane, like Palin, running our country! Palin will run our country down to the ground! May as well have Tina Fay take her place, at least it'll be more entertaining.

Palin had good Britney Spears moments at the Veep Debate night and I actually felt bad for her during the Katie Couric's interview. I am a SAHM who was a Hillary supporter and had an open mind to McCain's possibility as President. But McCain has shown poor judgement in choosing Palin as his running mate. She came across as highly annoying, lacking substance (you could tell when she was reciting from memory) and tried too hard to be cute. What is up with the winks? In regards to experience, I have two words - Bush, Cheney -and see what that got us into. I respect Senator McCain, especially his sacrifice to the country, have defended some of his policies and think highly of his wife and her humanitarian causes. But he showed poor judgement in trying to appeal to "folks" like me by choosing Palin. She reminds us of some of the annoying PTA moms at school who can be quite condescending. The gorgeous babe who flirted her way through life. So, Obama has my vote for taking this country and its problems seriously. We do need change and it has to come from the ground up. I have worked for Welfare to Work with community organizers, and it has worked. You understand the plight of low to middle class Americans when you work with them on a daily basis and listen to their struggles. And I felt that Biden got it too.

Is this the dumb sizing of the executive office or what? We are facing global warming, an economic crisis of huge magnitude, an energy crunch that has driven the cost of living way beyond our means and all we can get is "drill baby drill". ANWR is not Sarah Palin's to give. Surely the Republican party could have done just a tiny bit better. The fact that the Republicans allowed their party to be hijacked is for them to straighten out, not for the rest of the country to suffer.

We would readily get past the affectation of the "hockey mom" shtick if she demonstrated a measure of intelligence. I am middle class America up from parents that came from rural poor. I was taught to value education by a mother who never graduated elementary school. Discipline and Christian values played a very large part in my upbringing as did keeping personal life matters private, and maintaining your equilibrium in times of crisis. Yet Sarah does not resonate with me at all.

John McCain and Sarah Palin have run the most sexist campaign I have ever witnessed. She has been sheltered from the press and when she is set free the best she can muster is a "cute" rendition of her party's slogans. If she regained her confidence last night Lord help us.

I am really more interested in the issues not shtick. There is an enormous difference between being competent, knowledgeable and able to communicate to a broad base of the population, and mugging for the cameras. Her choice as the Republican VP candidate belies Senator McCain's sexism and cynicism towards the American public.
Alaska and the rest of rural America has so much more to offer than Sarah Palin.

After what the Bush administration has done to this country, the Republicans owed us at the very least some measure of competency and integrity in ther nomination process. We've had it with the mindless slogans and branding. "Drill baby drill" is not much of an energy policy. She was an oddity and a diversion but this woman is neither presidential nor vice presidential material.

The questions that were posed were actually pertinent, however she chose instead to totally ignore them and sputter out a few slogans.

I'm going to have my latte this morning to get me going and a beer tonight to wash away the sound of Sarah Palin's voice.

I think her performance was almost insulting to intelligent women everywhere. As I listened to Sarah Palin I was reminded of a line from Shakespeare's MacBeth, "full of sound and fury...signifying nothing".

This is to Joe in s.a.

One of the things I've been saying is that I'm tired of people using the term "cowboy" for what McCain does.

I know cowboys and they are smart, thoughtful and focused, don't need an AK-47 to deer hunt or a plane - the exact opposite of McCain/Sarah.

You stand as an example of what I'm talking about.

Just because people might be in a rural or country area doesn't mean that they aren't engaged and involved with issues.

I knew she wasn't as dumb as she was portraying herself. But her politics and policies are still bad for America. She was said to not be able to string two sentences together. But she fooled people. But she didn't fool Biden. He did his homework. He knew that if John McCain picked her, there had to be something fishy about her. He says he likes McCain, but McCain has very wrong ideas for this country of middle-class to poor people. People don't like being fooled. It shows a deceptive quality in an individual's nature. But that has been proven by the bridge to nowhere deal. Palin is not an honest person. She is one of those people who can lie with a smile. That is a dangerous characteristic to carry into the White House.

If she winked one more time I was scream!

She seems unable to take anything serious. I saw a person smiling and giggling as they spoke because they did not fully understand the seriousness of what they were speaking of. She showed she can cram and memorize for a test but will she remember any of the answers she pulled off a week from now?

Oh, and Sarah, I have a letter to introduce to "YA" it is the letter G and it often follows the letters I-N!!!!! Maybe her father should have taught English rather than Science!

Sarah Palin did much better than I expected. However, if I wanted "Gee, Golly, Wow" in the White House, McCain could have nominated my next door neighbor, who is also a soccer mom, and much more current on international affairs than Sarah Palin. The best Palin can hope for is to be able to hang onto the few shreds of dignity she actually posessed before accepting the nomination. Sarah Palin in the White House, or anywhere near it, is a frightening thought.

It's a good thing she had her cliff notes with her. It was clear that she was using them to make her points. (She would of been lost without them.) I thought she would be good if she was in a high school debate.

Sarah IS a joke! Can you imagine her speaking with and foreign diplomat and sounding folksy when the questions are over her head? Most of them speak better english then americans. I guess in order to communicate effectively with her, everyone has to speak "folksy".
E-bonics out, Folksy in!

What a leftist extreme brainwash this is. Joe from Texas, McCain 52% Obama 43% in Texas. Your wide travelings of the lone star state listening to leftist radio stations, no you wont find anyone that likes her there, cowboy? Is that the new euphemism for leftist in Texas, See you Oct. 11. 11:00 AM

Sarah Palin's voice sounds like Megan Hauserman from various reality shows, currently I Love Money on VH1. There may be other similarities between the two.

I thought she avoided answering the questions she was asked and then starting discussing a topic she felt comfortable with and had prepared for. I also think her "folsky" style is a turn off-it makes her sound unprofessional. I am middle class and I don't need to relate to the person running for vice president on that level--they should be professional in their manner--no "folsky". I want someone who is running for vice president that is knowledgeable of our government and its policies and professional yet personable but not "folksy" and use terms like "betcha" etc. And if someone who is "just a hockey mom etc" can run for vice president then there are a lot of people out there qualified to run for vice president and I am sure many of them even more qualified and likable than Ms. Palin.

Dear moderator, there are so many duplicate comments on this blog. I think that people are either re-posting them on purpose or perhaps there is a technical problem. Would you please eliminate all duplicate comments? They do not serve any purpose other than cluttering this blog. Thank you!

I would give her performance a B- for memorizing her talking points. However, leave the shoutouts for Obama...oh hell he said that during a debate....OMG, then the Repubnants would say he was trying to appeal to the urban-hood base.

She is likeable. I like my friends, however I would never trust anyone of them to pay my bills on time, if I had to go out of town, for any length of time.

The fact that she could not name any Supreme Court Rulings other than Roe v. Wade, makes me feel she is not "in touch" with American minorities. What about Plessy v. Ferguson, Brown v The Board of Education?

New Ad:

Its 3am, Iran attacks Israel. Who do you want to answer that call?

Palin: "Hey can I call ya Ahma-getcha instead of Ahmadinejad? Can I get bact to ya? I need to call Katie Couric and Oprah and see what they think I should do."

Katie Couric & Oprah - More qualified to be VP than Palin.

Obama:

How embarrasing to have Sarah Palin as VP, we would be the laughing stock of the world. Even when she did answer a question, she had no substance to her answers at all. We have had a dim wit as a President for the past 8 years, America should learn from this, do you want another one as VP?
Folksy is not Presidential.

It is 3:00 AM, Russian bombers violate our airspace over Alaska...

Obama bin Biden answers the call and passes it to...the United Nations!

Is this what you want America?

Do not vote left-wing-liberal Obama bin Biden to be our next Commander in Chief. It took 3 statements by him and this after speaking to his 300+ foreign policy advisors to kind of condemn (he has still not even come close to it) Russia for invading a democratic and sovereign country....

And, this while Senator McCain, Senator Clinton, our government, and ALL our allies - blasted Russia's invasion of Georgia! Even China turned its back to Russia on the Georgia issue despite the fact that the Russian leaders - Medvedev (Putin's hand picked puppet) and Putin himself were courting China's support on the Georgia conflict!! Ahaha...ha!!

Wake up America - do not vote for "marxist" Obama Bin Biden!

Natasha,

I wont. I won't vote for Obama Bin Biden. I will vote for Barack Obama and Joe "Six-pack" Biden. They are in touch with the Middle-Class Americans.

Actually, we wouldn't have to vote for your Obama Bin Biden...if the current administration would have focused on Afganistan. Osama would not be a talking point...if he was captured and killed.

If Russian invaded our airspace via Russia...well I'd hope one of the Palin's would take aim and ask them, "What are you doing here?" "Shoo!" or kill them when their rear there head. But no, they will be busy killing mooses, instead of the real enemy! Where's PETA when you need them! :-)

A must watch for the obnoxious left-wing-liberal media and to everyone that reads this blog:

THINK BEFORE YOU VOTE!

Ahhh there you go Natasha-The-Name Caller:

:-)

When in doubt and your pissed, start calling stereotypical names that ivoke fear from the White people. Mobilized them around that bomb-fire and vote against that radical, racist brown man!

I am from NW Ohio, raised in a blue-collar, Polish community, attended all White Catholic shools from grade 1 thru 12. I thought about it, checked my wallet, bank statements that show I will owe 90k in student mba loans, I VOTED EARLY! Obama-Biden!

Cindy alone can can bail out Wachovia with what she spends on her wardrobe alone and 7 homes, alone. Yeah in touch.

This is just one example as to why Palin keeps referring to "Russia's proximity to Alaska".

To the obmoxious Catie Curic, Campbell Brown, and the rest of the media clowns:

Have you understood yet what Governor Palin was trying to tell you - idiots - when she made the comment about Russia's Putin peaking into our airspace?

Read on partisan media morons...(and this below is NOT an isolated incident, trust me).

Russia bombers get NATO escort near Alaska:

To the media morons and all other left-wing-liberals-socialists-communists:

Just do a Google search with keywords:

NATO+ALASKA+RUSSIAN+BOMBERS

Now, perhaps the media clowns can shut-up and stop making fun of Palin's remarks about Russia's Putin peaking into our airspace. Governor Sarah Palin is the Commander in Chief of Alaska's National Guard and she knows darn well what she is talking about when she speaks about Alaska's proximity to Russia.

Again, just do a Google search with keywords:

Perhaps you be enlightened!!

Katie Courice was just doing her job! From 1 Journalist to another Journalist that took 6yrs/6 colleges to complete, Palin knows what Journalism is all about. If she knows this is the season of "Gotcha Journalism" she should have been PREPARED for the interview. Yet she could not name 1 newspaper or magazine? What about Forbes, Wall-Street Journey, USA Today? We are all very busy people however, for the highest position, she's got to fit it in, just like her daily work-outs.

Hell Katie she probably had to BEG her protective father surrogate, McCain to talk to her! Now she's cynical? She's a pitbull, but all I hear is whimpering after her all-bark at the RNC convention and answers such as: any, all, Roe v. Wade and reform just won't do for any questioned asked.

I'd respect her more if she stated, "at this time I am listening to previous debates between McCain and _____ and viewing live video feeds, which has consumed my time away from daily mags/papers...."

Google search...
Results 1 - 10 of about 53,000 for NATO ALASKA RUSSIAN BOMBERS

Just one of the "eye catching" items about which Americans are clueless. We have fallen asleep a long time ago because the liberal media simply does NOT want the voters to know - they do NOT want McCain to use it as a campaign talking point, you know...(they think that we are stupid)

There you have it...

NATO fighters again accompany Russian bombers near Alaska

RIA Novosti

09/04/2008 12:11 MOSCOW, April 9 (RIA Novosti) - NATO fighters accompanied Russian Tu-95 Bear strategic bombers on a regular strategic patrol flight on Wednesday, a Russian Air Force spokesman said.

Four Bear bombers and four Il-78 aerial tankers conducted a patrol mission over the Arctic and the Pacific Ocean and performed aerial refueling, which is the second exercise of Russian bombers near Alaska in three weeks.

"During the flight over neutral waters near Alaska, the Russian planes were accompanied by NATO fighters," Colonel Alexander Drobyshevsky said.

Interceptions of Russian combat aircraft by NATO fighters have been a common occurrence since Russia resumed strategic bomber patrol flights over the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic oceans last August, following an order signed by President Vladimir Putin.

Drobyshevsky reiterated that regular patrols of Russian strategic bombers do not pose a threat to other countries, and Russia always issues prior warnings of their patrols.

He said that the main purpose of these missions was to train pilots in instrument flight and aerial refueling.

Go Sarah!!...Explain to the nedia morons and the cluless left-wing-liberals why you made the comment to Catie Curic about "Putin sticking his head out into our airspace" and why yopu keep referring to Alaska's proximity to Russia. The idiots think that you are going to go into "sensitive" information regarding "national security" issues. They are so naive to believe that as the Governor of Alaska - the top Executive in your State and also the Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard you are not involved in any contigency/emergency response plans/joint antiterrorism/chemical biological threats, etc. 90% of Americans are so naive when it comes to geopolitical issues - yet they always seem to express an opinion as they know it all!! Half of Americans can not even find Georgia on the map!!!!!

Just last month...

How is it that we are not hearing anything about this from our "24 hour news-for-dummies" networks???!!!

Russia restarts Cold War patrols

Russia is resuming a Soviet-era practice of sending its bomber aircraft on long-range flights, President Vladimir Putin has said.

Mr Putin said the move to resume the flights permanently after a 15-year suspension was in response to security threats posed by other military powers.

He said 14 bombers had taken off from Russian airfields early on Friday.

The move came a week after Russian bombers flew within a few hundred miles of the US Pacific island of Guam.

A few days ago Moscow said its strategic bombers had begun exercises over the North Pole.

Flexing muscles

"We have decided to restore flights by Russian strategic aviation on a permanent basis," Mr Putin told reporters at joint military exercises with China and four Central Asian states in Russia's Ural mountains.

"In 1992, Russia unilaterally ended flights by its strategic aircraft to distant military patrol areas. Unfortunately, our example was not followed by everyone," Mr Putin said, in an apparent reference to the US.

"Flights by other countries' strategic aircraft continue and this creates certain problems for ensuring the security of the Russian Federation," he said.

In Washington, state department spokesman Sean McCormack played down the significance of Russia's move, saying: "We certainly are not in the kind of posture we were with what used to be the Soviet Union."

"If Russia feels as though they want to take some of these old aircraft out of mothballs and get them flying again, that's their decision," he told reporters.

One of the reasons Russia halted its flights 15 years ago was that it could no longer afford the fuel.

Today Moscow's coffers are stuffed full of oil money, says the BBC's Rupert Wingfield-Hayes in Moscow, and the Kremlin is determined to show it is still a military power to reckon with.

'Shadowed by Nato'

Russian media reported earlier on Friday that long-range bombers were airborne, and that Nato jets were shadowing them.

Itar-Tass quoted Russian air force spokesman Alexander Drobyshevsky as saying: "At present, several pairs of Tu-160 and Tu-95MS aircraft are in the air over the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, which are accompanied by Nato planes."

Nato said it was aware of the flights but had no comment on whether Nato planes were in attendance.

In last week's incident near Guam, the Russian pilots "exchanged smiles" with US fighter pilots who scrambled to track them, a Russian general said.

The US military confirmed the presence of the Russian bombers near Guam, home to a large US base.

Last month two Tupolev 95 aircraft - dubbed "bears" according to their Nato code-name - strayed south from their normal patrol pattern off the Norwegian coast and headed towards Scotland. Two RAF Tornado fighters were sent up to meet them.

Russian bombers have also recently flown close to US airspace over the Arctic Ocean near Alaska.

Campbell Brown- Ditto the above. I'm so glad to see that someone else is saying the things I've been thinking. Some in the media are saying that Palin was "shrill" last night. Campbell Brown DEFINES the word "Shrill" and Soledad O'Brien defines the word "mean." They're both rude AND mean. Cafferty is disgusting. They are all a disgrace not only to journalism, but to themselves. I never watch their reports. I've been tuning in to them, though, over the past week to see what the other side is saying and knew I'd be sick about their lop-sided coverage of Sarah Palin. But then I took heart last night after Palin's speech. The liberal press was almost speechless. That was a real kick. I say - Go Sarah! Posted by Joyce of NY

To Joyce of NC:

Joyce, you hit the nail on the head! Governor Palin gave the left-wing-liberal media the medicine that they needed! It was about time that someone - an accomplished and intelligent woman like Palin - replied in "kind" to the "24 hour tabloid news circus"! And, the best is yet to come!!

To the above list of utterly rude and mean spirited left-wing-liberal media clowns - Campbell Brown, Soledad O'Brien, Zack Cafferty led by Jon Klein = Clown president of CNN, I suggest that they enroll in a "Swiss finishing school" to brush up in good manners! Their disgusting behavior only shows their character and non-existent moral values.

It would be a great omission if to the above list we did not include another rude and obnoxious left-wing-liberal clown - Keith Olberman of MSNBC!! Keith Olberman defines the word "idiot"!

To all media clowns: Get used to it as the best is yet to come!!

Sarah Palin, tu est intelligent...tu est magnifique!!!

P.S. If anyone can think of any more names of media clowns please keep posting them...They all need to be exposed - once and for all. They did the same thing to Clinton - enough is enough - we will not just sit and watch "news for dummies" by clowns like all of the above!

Reply to Cammie:

Oh please, do not go there... Perhaps the Kennedy family could have bailed out Lehman Brothers! Are you tryinf to tell us that Ted Kennedy - God Bless him - has not been in touch with the middle class or Americans in poverty because he is wealthy???!!!....Perhaps in your opinion JFK was not a great President because he was also wealthy"???!!!

Btw, you are behind in the news... Wachovia has already been bailed out/purchased by Wells Fargo and that is a fact!

Cammie wrote: "Cindy alone can can bail out Wachovia with what she spends on her wardrobe alone and 7 homes, alone. Yeah in touch."

Reply to Cammie:

Perhaps the left wing liberals like you can move to North Korea or Cuba, or for that matter to Russia (the KGB man still rules) where their leaders are very much "in touch" with their people - sharing their wealth with "the people"! Ahaha...ha!

Obama would be a great President indeed - in Cuba, North Korea, Venezouela, or...Iran!!

GO OBAMA/BIDEN!

THESE GUYS ARE GONNA GIT ER DONE!

IS THAT FOLKSY ENOUGH!!!

I was highly insulted by Palan's lack of usage or proper grammar. Does she not know the English language? Where does she think she is headed to a county fair or a hoe down, not Washington D.C. Not talking like that!!

WOW am I relieved to find out that I am not the only one who is disgusted and insulted by Palin's "folksy" tone. I don't want her anywhere near the White House!

Republicans, here's a news flash for "ya": A "folksy" tone of voice does not indicate that your candidate values the people's opinions at large. Rather, it's an artifice a politician uses to convince voters that he or she can relate to them and can be trusted to take their opinions into account. Republican reliance on "folksy" types indicates Republican desperation to get votes when their opponents are clearly superior in honesty, lingual clarity, knowledge of fact, and wisdom of policy.

Sadly, the "folksy" tactic is effective in persuading the least intelligent and least educated voters among us.

Wow! Talk about low expectations! Just because she didn't get the "deer in the headlights" expression for 90 minutes, does not make her any smarter. And the same republicans who were crying wolf about the sexist labels are high five-ing each other because the only thing that got reinforced last night was her sex appeal and her "doggoneit" attitude to world issues. We already have a "six-pack joe" president and look where it has gotten us.

Why is it that we crave our leaders to be like us - average? Shouldn't our leaders be the smartest amongst us? It seems we love the lowest common denominator. If that's the case, then we deserve Sarah Palin.

I would have voted for McCain - I relate to some of the conservative issues - but judgment calls like getting Sarah Palin on board are not winning indies like me over.

The only person I am concerned about after last night's performance is my namesake, Gov Bobby Jindal. I see his chances of a 2012/16 primary victory slipping away!

Am I the only person who noticed with Sarah Palin's hesitance for responses; that she looked as if she were being fed lines??

Am I the only person who noticed with Sarah Palin's hesitance for responses; that she looked as if she were being fed lines??

Erica C-- No, you are not the only one...

Erica and Amy,

You are not imagining things. Palin delivered THIS TIME, unlike Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric, because she devoted 24x7 to memorizing her answers that were written out for her by McCain. The little "wink" and "shoutout"...those were her personal touches, to get a rise out of the male independents who are still on the fence. :~)

For heavens sake, has anyone checked to see if she REALLY has a Journalism degree? You would think by her own Journalism experience that there are hard questions and easy questions and you should STILL BE PREPARED for both!

To had credence to the fact that Palin had rehearsed and rehearsed lines...her first statement out the gate was "I will answer the questions the way that I want. You may not like it but..."

She set the tone for the whole debate so she would not have to play "defense" later, if she was "stumped" by the question. 2ndly, the only reason she got away with this...by playing Debater and Moderator was because Ifill's d@mn book! If it wasn't for the book, Ifill would have corrected her and say, "Govenor, I'm running the show. You answer the questions that the people Dems and Repubs want to know." But Ifill let that slide right past her.

See the point is Palin doesn't want to get a "follow-up question" or "give me another example and please be specific" because she ONLY HAS 1 PREPARED ANSWER PER TOPIC, international, economy, social. The way she ditched and dodged the questions...makes you think she was trying to play hide and go seek.

I like her because she's funny, but I don't want her managing my future. She is only qualified to be Governor, at this time. If she starts to read some newspapers, magazines, legal statutes..then by 2012 she may be taken more seriously.

Natasha...go away and take Pathetic Pilan with you!

Are you perhaps the witch of CNN - Campbell Brownose?

Obama would be a great film star...

(Btw, he is the one running for President - not Satah Palin!)

1. Yes, Sarah Palin is being drug around in the dirt because she is a Republican woman and how dare the person call Sarah a Caribou Barbie! That is one of the most sexist comments, yet. Also, for the one who called her "trailer trash" that just shows to me that it is not the Republicans who are elitists but the Democrats. This should be very offensive to those whose homes are trailers and who don't make a six figure income.

2.It keeps coming up about the Bridge to Nowhere. Obama has ALSO been in favor of MANY things and then changed his mind....Israel/Pakistan...Russian/Georgia, etc. but NO-ONE dwells on that. In fact, he can't make a decision; he just goes with the flow after asking dozens of advisors. He is charmismatic, I will give him that but charisma isn't what we need. Some of you mentioned that McCain's heroism doesn't qualify him for the White House...well,okay then...neither does being a charismatic celebrity. Obama would be a great film star. He loves the spotlight. He's an eloquent speaker. I've heard that John McCain is not. Hmmm...someone who's become good at smoothly eloquent speaking probably has learned to make words work for him and twist them when necessary and people won't even notice.

3. I've noticed that some are comparing Palin's lack of experience and background to Obama. How come they are not doing the same comparison on McCain and Obama? Why is Joe Biden not the one that is being compared to her? At least, I have not seen much to that;maybe someone can fill me in on somewhere I could see this.

4. It seems Palin has so many sins in her life and McCain, too. Then,I guess the Democrats are without sin. They are presenting themselves as perfect. Too bad the voters are not nearly as perfect as Obama. In the Bible, there was a story about an adulteress that was getting ready to be stoned to death. Jesus told them "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." The Dems have done a great job of casting the stones and hitting Palin.

And, let's not forget the Democrat who was President, and even though I'm not a Democrat, he did a decent job of the duties in office, yet he was an adulterer while in the office that he was elected to, disappointing Americans, but in this whole election,no one, not even the Republicans (except this one) has brought that up;(which is right thing NOT to do)maybe, it is because we all have skeletons in our closet. Have you ever thought what would come out if you ran for office?

5. The newstands are full of articles tearing Palin down, but I've yet to see the faces of Obama (the liberal media's little darling) or Joe Biden on the covers presented in a negative way. I agree with one blogger who said that these publications are only ruining themselves. Let's do real journalistic reporting...report the facts, Jack on both sides, both negative and positive and let the readers decide. I would absolutely LOVE to see an article in a mag that compares Obama to McCain and in the same mag Palin to Biden, side by side on issues, skeletons in the closets, biographies, awards and honors....maybe in the form of resumes so the American public could compare and then at the polls hire the ticket they think would be the best for the job.

6. Finally, and then, I'm through. I understand it may be good to understand the candidates' views based on their faith but it is a little undeserving to undermine one for "praying" that God's will be done. Our country was founded on a faith in the One True God, The Creator and our laws and values were built upon the Christian faith, but now, it's not politically correct to be a Christian,no one must renounce their deep beliefs in order to please everyone. I couldn't see one bit of hatred in the video that has been circulating where she spoke at her church in Alaska. Praying for someone does not cause hatred or racism or sexism. Their beliefs in their faith did not say they hated gays, only that they would be praying for them. And, in the privacy of a church building, they may do whatever (within the law) that they believe. Now that Obama has disowned his pastor, no one has mentioned anymore about how that church shaped his views. They are afraid to because of the venomous rhetoric that came from the pastor's mouth. Does anyone know what Biden believes;have they gone to a church he attends or does he attend one? What about McCain? What are his religious values? So, then, why does that play into the equation with Palin? I could understand if she were part of an anti-government,hate religion. The most she could be convicted of in her faith is saying that she believes in praying to God, asking His will for the country. Go back in history to other presidents; many were men who prayed or sought God's will. At least, the great ones did.

Thank you, both Republicans and Democrats for letting me air my feelings. How, sometimes I wish we didn't have parties. I can't stand the division and hatred that ensues. Especially when we say "United we stand, Divided we fall." Let's just let each other vote our consciences or faith or whatever standard and quit yelling at each other. I really hope that people in other countries don't read our comments because it will show the United States are not so united after all. And...I will be praying for this election, that God will put in the candidates He wants (and, although I will vote Republican which is voting based on my faith) I know that whichever party gets in will be because God put them there "for such a time as this" and I will relax and support the Preident of the United States and respect the office.

Speaking of double standards....

Ms. Campbell Brown & Jon Clown - as in Jon Klein -President of CNN, and the rest of the "24 hour media circus" had the audacity to question the fact that Palin's husband had a DUI, 22 years ago! But at the same time I did not once hear the above clowns grilling Obama about his "drug use" and other "extracurricular activities"!!!

Go Sarah Palin! Give some of these pathetic far-left-wing-liberals in the media the medicine that they deserve...Better yet, IGNORE THEM!

Like you said last night during your..."little flash news" gesture to the obnoxious media, "I am not going to Washington to seek your good opinion"!!!

C' est magnifique !!!!!!

They are NOT going to question their "Chosen One" - God's Gift to America" per "Bela" Pelosi!!

Quote: Jake Lewis wrote: "I don't recall Mrs. Brown asking the same tough questions regarding Obama's lack of foreign policy experience, his drug use, his ties to domestic terrorists, to explain how he purchased a $1.5 million home (yea...middle class) on a state legislature's salary, his refusal to vote ya or na while serving in the state legislature, or why in his 3 1/2 years as a senator he has not sponsored one important piece of legislation? Oh! I understand now...he speaks well." Posted by: Jake Lewis | September 04, 2008 at 01:43 PM

BINGO!!

Dear Jake Lewis, you hit the nail on the head! But Ms. Campbell Brown and Jon Clown - as in Jon Klein - President of CNN - have been listening apparently to Nancy Pelosi.....they are NOT going to question their "Chosen One" - "God's Gift to America", as "Bela" Pelosi refers to Obama!

Can you imagine if Senator McCain had said that Sarah Palin was "God's gift to America"? They would be reminding him about the separation of Church and State!

Natasha--

I respect your opinion and your choice but you appear to just be SPAMMING UP THE PLACE with your posts. Its almost as if you're talking to yourself.

You alone are turning me off to McCain and Palin more than anything right now. If you really would like to help your candidate(s) of choice, you may want to have your own blog set up to keep your posts, links, etc. together and use a link to redirect others to that blog. Please refrain from spamming incessantly like this. My scrolling finger thanks you.

God wills certain candidates to win office? What do we live in, a theocracy? Plainly, we do not. Vote your values but do not make the ludicrous claim that God is only on your political side.

Want to know what else is wrong with Palin asking "Hey can I call you Joe"? It clearly shows she wishes to undercut him by removing reference to his title of Senator.

How well do you think this would have worked in the reverse-- if Biden had had the gall to ask Palin if he could call her Sarah rather than Governor? I don't think it would have. Biden, on the other hand, as gracious as he is, took the high road in the face of Palin's belittling insult.

Palin really needs to stay in Alaska. Her blatant disrespect of her political rivals-- and obvious unwillingness to follow the rules of engagement-- prove strongly that she is FAR from capable of performing properly as VP.
