New CNN Poll Shows Obama Up 5%
A new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll of nat'l LVs, conducted 10/17-19, shows Barack Obama leading John McCain by 5%, down from his 8% advantage in the poll conducted 10/3-5. The margin of error for the data is +/- 3.5%.

He's not up 5% - he's up 5 percentage points.
Obama/Biden's polling has decreased by about 4%:
(53-51/53)*100 = 3.774%
However, they still lead McCain/Palin by 5 percentage points.

The only reason why this race will get close is because the media wants it that way so they can stay viable. The fact that the media is echoing the McCains "socialist" theme. Shows that they (you) are all about profit! When will the media return to doing the peoples work? I guess there will never be a "Watergate" incident again! The media needs reform too!!!!

Poll changed by 3% and the margin of error is 3.5%. Why would you even report that there is a margin of error if you ignore what it means.
This poll cannot distinguish whether there was a change in sentiment or merely a random variation between two separate samples if the change is under 3.5%.
Gallup has widened Obamas lead as has Zogby, both daily tracking polls with large samples. I have to believe the CNN poll is lagging behind. See RCP. Virginia has widend considerably. I hate to say it, but grab a fork, its done. He cannot win electorialy, IMO. Obama is SOLID in every Kerry state, and ahead/leaning in almost every swing state. Mcaine is struggling mightily to hold red states he should easily/must win. I am starting to think the real question is how big the landslide.
Look for a clue next week if Mcain changes strategy, in effect going out gracefully, and looking statesman like.
Can anyone tell me why this race is even this close? I think this is a total crock of bull... Obama has to be higher in the polls than this!

Rick Davis has been saying today that they are "rethinking" playing the race card by bringing up Jeremiah Wright. And blaming that on Rep Lewis. It doesn't get much worse than that. And it certainly won't help McCain's legacy as a politician. After this disgusting gutter campaign he'll have more than the Keating 5 on his tombstone.
CNN polls--what a joke!!! Wonder who they skew towards. Believe what you will, it will be a great deal closer than what they show. The media has certainly taken this inexperienced nobody to places he does not deserve or has earned. The attacks on Obama are not working on the Independents. They hate it. But McCain is 72 so when he is defeated he can just go home and relax. It won’t matter that he is forever going to be remembered in the history books for waging a very nasty, divisive campaign. All Obama does is fend off attacks. It is a good thing we already know that Obama will not raise taxes on you if you make $250,000 or less. That is a good thing for people like me, no matter how the Republicans try to spin it. It is fantastic that Obama made sure we knew about his tax plan because he doesn’t have a minute to tell us now what with all the defensive speeches he has to make. Hey…I just realized something. That is why McCain’s camp is attacking him. So that he CAN’T talk about his plan. But McCain, it won’t work. WE ALREADY KNOW THE PLAN. It is imbeded in our minds and on November 4th we are going show we heard it loud and clear.
I went to the emergency room and was looked at for 10 minutes and then given a prescription for anti-biotic. That's it. No special treatment at all. The bill from the hospital was 80$, that's fair--the bill from the doctor was 280$. That boils down to 2,800$ an hour. This is how the wealth is spread by Republican standards. I'm not looking for a handout, I'm looking for a fair handshake. Is it okay for the rich to get richer at the expense of the working class? If anyone is looking for a "handout" in this picture--it's the rich, not the poor. I have to work an entire month to earn what this doctor makes in an hour! Fix the problems with our country and our economy by voting OBAMA 08!

There were polls in Memphis for the mayoral campaign last year. The incumbent, the great mayor Willie Herenton, was running third in the polls to two challengers, Carol Cumney (a lesbian) and Herman Morris (an idiot). In fact, Chumney was way ahead in the polls. The results? Herenton won by in a landslide. His "Shake the Haters Off" phrase resonated with the people, and Herenton has a base whose love for him and loyalty to him is almost unshakable. The lessson learned from this? Polls can be very misleading. I hope Obama wins over McBush and Caribou Barbie, but this election is up in the air, despite what the poll numbers say.
