Obama: Even Palin Is Denouncing GOP Tactics
TAMPA, FL – At a rally to drum up excitement over early voting, Barack Obama said even his rival’s running mate has denounced her campaign’s tactics.
The Democratic nominee was referring to comments Sarah Palin made to journalists yesterday when asked about robocalls voters in several states have reported receiving. The calls link Obama to William Ayers, a college professor who was an antigovernment radical in the 1960’s.
Obama told the audience of 8,000 people at a baseball stadium here that power concedes nothing without a fight and that his campaign would fight until the end, despite the negative tone the race had taken.
“In the final days of campaigns, the say-anything, do-anything politics too often takes over. We’ve seen it before and we’re seeing it again today,” he said. “Ugly phone calls, misleading mail, misleading TV ads, careless, outrageous comments. All aimed at keeping us from working together. All aimed at stopping change. It’s getting so bad that even Sen. McCain’s running mate denounced his tactics last night. You know you really have to work hard to violate Gov Palin’s standards on negative campaigning."
His line was met with roars of applause, but upon closer examination does not appear to be totally accurate. The campaign confirmed he was talking about Palin’s statement on robocalls, but while the Alaska governor told reporters she thought robocalls were irritating to voters, she pointedly refused to denounce them.
Obama, a White Sox fan, was introduced by a group of Tampa Bay Rays, who encouraged people to get out and vote early. He congratulated the team for winning the American League pennant, even joking that he had considered sporting a Mohawk in solidarity. He then made his own pitch to get out the early vote.
“You can start voting today so I want everybody after this rally if you have not already voted, I want you to go vote,” he said. “Don’t wait until Nov 4th. You don’t know what might happen on Nov. 4th. Your car might break down; ou might have an emergency; the alarm might not go off, you don’t get to work on time and so take the advantage of early vote. If you don’t know where to go vote, call 877-2FL-OBAMA. 877-2FL-OBAMA. But we want everybody to go to the polls now. Go early. We’re gonna make sure your vote is counted.”
The mention of emergencies or problems that could delay or prevent a trip to the polls on Election Day echoed ones used by Obama's former rival Hillary Clinton during the primaries as she sought to encourage early voting in the states that allowed it. He was set to join the New York senator at a rally in Orlando tonight, their first joint appearance on the trail since the convention.
The event in Hillsborough County, which George W. Bush won in the last two elections, marked Obama’s sixth trip to the Sunshine State during the general election.

I saw Hillary in Fort Lauderdale today, stumping for Obama. She looked and sounded great. We are blessed to have such talent in the Democratic Party!
Let's go, Dems! Next stop, victory!
While you pointed out that Palin did not denounce actually the content of the calls. The point was made by Sen. Obama that she did denounce assaulting people at home with these malicious calls. If the calls had of been pleasant, informational, or inspiring then what would be the point in denouncing them? So the complaint is still acknowledged even by Palin that their tactics STINK.
John McCain and the RNC have really fallen face first into the gutter with the robocalls.
Can you imagine children answering those calls before parents realized what was happening?
They have no right to bring their filth into our homes.
I call on every decent American to tell John McCain and the RNC to stop immediately!
Why would anyone want to vote for someone who shows so much disrespect for our homes and our children?
You can't be any more out of touch than with this!

Neither party or potential President has me standing up to cheer. Neither Obama or McCain has convinced me, who I should vote for? Yet I'm voting for Obama. I'm terrified that he will give ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS a path to citizenship, even the they violated our laws. However, he will have a nasty battle trying to get it past the House, Senate and 80 percent of the American people. Taxpayers don't need to subsidize a war, plus an estimated 37 million illegal aliens, according to the Tucson sector Border Patrol union local 2544. I know I don't want to support illegal aliens or pariah employers who hire them.
However I will compromise for Health care for my sick family, members, building up our U.S.infrastructure which is falling apart, stopping job outsourcing and selling America to foreign governments. Taking our economy back from China, India and other cheap labor lands. Fighting for Americans, instead of the International globalists who have no loyalty to this nation.
If you are still undecided about which candidate to vote for maybe you are mentally challenged. Do you know what YOU stand for by now? I mean it's not like they are close in their policies...it's a case of polar opposites. I'm tired of the "undecideds". I think it's a case of knowing but not wanting to admit who you're voting for. Either way who cares? Make a decision based on the candidate you believe has your best interests and that of this country at heart. BTW Brittanicus stop listening to Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage....they are crazy. Obama is not going to let illegals come in and commit crimes and take your jobs. That is just scare tactics used by sensationalized radio hosts who thrive off ratings. There is no basis for these claims.
It is easy to be undecided in this or any recent election. The problem is that no matter who you vote for, they are not the person who is calling the shots. Their party, their fundraisers, their lobbyists are the people that they are working for. They say that they care about us normal working people, but that is a bunch of lies to get your vote. If you think that either McCain or Obama are going to "change" anything, wake up and smell the money!!!
Anyone who does not see that the taxation, health and other measures promoted by Obama will benefit the 95% of Americans earning $50,000 or less per year, and those promoted by McCain will benefit the 5% who are already rich enough, has got to be deaf, blind, brainwashed or otherwise mentally challended. In addition, he will make America again a country the world can look up to. And stop fearing immigrants - we all are or descend from immigrants, except the Native Americans whom earlier generations have ethnically cleansed and confined to their miserable "reservations".

Wow is Obama so scared that voters will change their minds that they must vote now, why not wait till the end of the election to vote. I thought this one was in the bag. Is he getting a little scared that McCain is gaining on him in the battleground states. OH NO!!! And could it be that McCain has another one of Obama's dirty secrets up his sleeve? Stay tuned folks....same bat time....same bad channel.
I'm in the Tampa Bay Area and I voted for Obama today! I'd say a fairly good turn out too. I waited an hour and a half to vote. By what I observed Obama supporters outnumbered McCain supports by about 7 to 4. But that's just based on what people were talking about in line and wearing. . .still encouraging. Though I am certain a large number of McCain's senior supports are opting for absentee ballots here in Hillsborough County. So we ALL need to vote!!

Wow George, I am glad to see that you have Obama's talking points memorized. I have another one that you can memorize, voting for obama=socialism=bad for America.
And I have news for you George, I am not deaf, blind, brainwashed, or mentally challenged. Good to see though that you care more about the illegal immigrants than you do the handicapped. Way to be the bigger person.
If you want to talk about being brainwashed please take a good look around. How do you propose that your candidate will pay for the 3 trillon dollars worth of new spending without affecting the middle class? Answer me that please because everyone that I have asked hasn't been able too and I am just waiting for the day that they can.
For the people like Nicole talking about socialism, do you even know what the real theory of socialism is? Please read your books.

Nicole, if you put your brain in gear for a moment, you'll realize that the additional spending is both necessary and inevitable, regardless of your party affiliation. Just as in the depression, it's the only thing that will restart the economy.
The difference occurs afterward, when Obama winds down the wars and brings the money home to spend here in the US where it belongs.
A note about "socialism": Please try to get this straight, by seperating your emotions from your logic. When a commune is formed, it is a socialist endeavor; a community is the result; communities decide on projects that benefit most or all it's society (Infrastructure, Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, schools, etc.); These social endeavors are true socialism.
For some reason, Americans refuse to realize this fact until society wants those who recieve the most from society to pay the most for it, then it's SOCIALISM!
Unscramble your mind, lady!
The truth is right at your feet like dewdrops on a spring morning. Savor it!
BTW, when the government owns a slice of things like banks, that's fascism, or "corporatism" as Mussolini termed it.
Nicole,
Way to go for you too, taking the typical Republican stance on these obvious lies that your party is spewing. Your comments are ridiculous.
Where were you four (or eight) years ago, when all of the voter fraud happened on election day?
That's why Obama is telling people to get out and vote today. Because who knows what the Republicans will do (again) on election day with all the Democratic votes? It's really too bad our voting system is so easily corrupted and we have to encourage people to vote either by absentee ballot or early, but it's reality.
So get off your high horse and stop attacking people on the post.

Nicole,
The Bush Administration is using a socialistic system right now in order to jump-start the economy. BTW..who do you think owns some of the banks and financial institutions, right now? Well, FYI it is the GOVERNMENT under the Bush Adm (GOP)...I BET YOU DID NOT EVEN KNOW THAT B/C YOU ARE SO FIXED ON GOP PROPAGANDA AGAINST OBAMA! THE REPUBLICANS ARE THE REAL SOCIALISTS!!!!!!!!
The Palin Jingle
Palin put the pain on McCain
Palin put the pain on McCain
The people wanted Change
McCain was just the same
Palin put the pain on McCain
Now Palin jump onto the train
Heading out to campaign
Her words could not come out
GOP’s began to shout
Palin cause some pain in McCain
Palin put the pain on McCain
Left Cindy standing out in the rain
Barack began to rock
Left John still in shock
Palin has McCain gone Insane
Palin put the shame on McCain
Wasilla just won’t be the same
The people got their change
McCain remains insane
Palin put the pain on McCain…..
God Bless America!
Nicole,
What Obama is certainly afraid of are the tactics that have been used to suppress voter turnout on Election Day, particularly in low-income areas.
Leaving people standing in line for hours because there aren't enough booths.
Sending the police out to stand outside polling booths and threatening people.
Changing the polling places on people so they have to get way across town.
These are among the many tactics Republicans have used in the past. Along with the expected last-minute barrage of push-polling, where they ask questions like, "If you knew Barack Hussein Obama was a Muslim, would you vote for him?"
Besides, there's nothing wrong with a candidate impressing on the public how important their vote is.
Some support for my post above, in the news today:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/20/mccain-employing-gop-oper_n_136254.html
"John McCain's campaign has directed $175,000 to the firm of a Republican operative accused of massive voter registration fraud in several states...The managing partner of that firm is Nathan Sproul, a renowned GOP operative who has been investigated on multiple occasions for suppressing Democratic voter turnout, throwing away registration forms and even spearheading efforts to get Ralph Nader on ballots to hinder the Democratic ticket...
Indeed, Sproul's history is filled with allegations of political misdeeds. During the 2004 election, Sproul & Associates (the former name of Lincoln Strategy) was accused of attempting to destroy forms collected by Democratic voters in Nevada. That same year in Oregon, Sproul & Associates allegedly instructed canvassers to only accept Republican registration forms in addition to destroying those turned in by Democrats."
So Palin said robocalls were irritating, but refused to denounce them? I think Obama's point is made either way.
Brittanicus @ 6:00PM:
You should be more concerned with our nation
recruiting foreign workers into our health care
systems who bring their tag-along illegal family
members who NEVER get green cards, then get housed and fed, AND EMPLOYED with your tax dollars
and everyone else's in the U.S., thus displacing
and depriving our own citizens of jobs when our economy is already depressed.
And furthermore our Universities and Community
Colleges should be training our own youth for these same jobs. Policies that George Bush AND McSAME created to cause the downward spiral
of this economy!

If you are talking about illegals be specific,
people from SOUTH of the BORDER are not the problem.
This is a brilliant tactic: What does Palin do: Even if she were allowed by her handlers to make a statement, what would she say? That she thinks the calls are fine? Saying anything is a no win - Just like the repugnicants!
I have watch the presidential coverage and debates for the past three months every night, missing my football, baseball, and great movies, which has been a luxury of being an AMERICAN! But all I am hearing and seeing is a group of people that are not happy that things are not going there way, not people that are concerned about the country as a whole. Our economy is falling, our faith is being divided, but all we can think of is negativity.Obama want change,THATS WHAT WE NEED! People are afraid of change! But I am concerned about EVERYBODY not just the financial stable ones at this time, I see people crying about there homes, cars, jobs and all you can talk about is someones credability! That means your issues are weak!your policies are weak, that dont work with the needs of today! I know this is true because every time you are confronted about and issue, you revert back to well Obama did this, or obama did that! You never answer the Question! Is that a GOP trademark? or is that the best u can do, because you know your candidate has no answer, facial expressions are a lack of confidence and control, but you want to run a country as big as the US!By the way! Stop comparing Governor Palin to Senator Obama, he is running for President not Vice-President! Just like McCain Quoted " He is not George Bush," and she is not the presidental candidate! John McCain is! I thought! But who am I, I am just a middle class 40,000 and below American!

AMen, repubs NEVER answer the questions you put forth to them. They just turn it around on how Obama is a mulism, arab, socialist, whatever.
Do you repubs even know that voter fraud happened in 00 and 04? Where was your concern then?? You only care about repub issues and not America. Do you realize that under Bush we have been bought and sold to the highest bidder? China owns us! And most of you voted for BUSH. I'm sorry you cannot be trusted after voting him in office and now you want Mccain? Just twisted. The same people running the Mccain Campaign ran things for Bush, yet you believe Mccains lies.
Look at the way their campaign has drummed up hatred. Some parts of america are more patriotic than others? who says that? Obama a muslim? shouting "Kill him" yes it did happen. It's on youtube, but instead of denoucing it you repubs deny it never happened. Why cant you slam those nuts in your party if you disagree with them? Oh but wait you won't answer any questions!
Vote early if you can - there will be long lines on the 4th.
Also, the GOP may cheat.
Here in San Francisco, many people have voted already!
There should be both an IQ and mental stability test for voters.
Too many crazy morons deciding how the sane people should live.
I have not seen it mentioned that Ayers was protesting the Vietnam War when he acted out "domestic terrorism." I protested, as well; long marches through San Francisco with three generations of my family. A student at Kent State had been killed for protesting; many families were sending their low-draft-number sons to Canada; it seemed that our Government would NOT listen to the voices of the people. It was not our war; it was a war against the ideology of Communism in a tiny, remote tropical, green country in a tropical, green country. These were "Across the Universe" days.
Please at least put Ayers' behaviors in the context of escalating attempts to gain the Government's attention!
I still have my "Make Love Not War" token.
Barack Obama was 8 years old.
People do not know the extent of voter fraud. They don't know that votes for Obama are switching to McCain on voting machines already in early voting. It is not reported in the mainstream media. The '04 election fraud was not reported even on NPR. The show Left, Right and Center refused to acknowledge it, yet they discussed the Ukrainian situation. 2000 and 2004 were stolen. '04 is still in the courts and Rove has threatened the key witness in the case so he's afraid to testify. It takes years to prove this stuff and it's always too late. I hope that early voting makes a difference. I believe that most Americans would want the voters' intent to decide, but the mainstream media won't tell us the truth. You have to dig for it. And spread the news. The Dems need to win by a landslide. The polls were dead right for years and years, up until 2000 and 2004. Now polling is overwhelming for Obama. But don't trust that it won't be stolen. You must vote. Vote early, and tell your friends. Document what happens and report all suspicious activity. This may be our last chance to save Democracy in America.
Here's how I see the undecideds. They've gotta be halfway-intelligent, given that they aren't rabid McCainists. They know voting for Obama is in their best interests, but there's something in their makeup that just won't let them vote for a "you-know-what." But they're smart enough to know they have can't admit that, so they remain undecided.

Palin isn't denouncing abything. McCain and his goons want it both ways. They denounce slander and tactics that might as well have come from a sewer but continue to use them. This morning Palin gave a speech and for all intents and purposes accused Obama of being a Socialist, not that she even has clue as to what that really is. While Acorn peole are attacked (one woman was punched in the face) and death threats are issued to Acorn and bear murdered and dressed in Obama signs thrown onto a campus lawn, not once has McCain or Palin issued statements that this kind of behavior is intolerable; they're not fooling anyone. Desperation often makes for extremism and the republicans during this campaign have shown they're as vile and as extremist as you can get. No wonder, on election day, their party will be dead and buried.
I am an Obama supporter, but I don't agree with calling McCain supporters stupid, ignorant, or even racist. (Well, unless they say something racist - then have at em!) If you want to have an impact on the way people think, you have to try to be respectful. Which is hard, admittedly, when you know that McCain's policies will hurt you AND his rabid supporters too. McCain's campaign is playing to people's worst instincts, and they are good at it.
