PALIN AVAIL
October 17, 2008
Plane from Ohio to Indiana
QUESTION: (CBS) So how come you've dropped the attacks on Obama and Ayers lately?
A: Well, I think that American voters are understanding that association-that it's OK to talk about fact. Of course, Barack Obama had been bringing it up, even in challenging John McCain on that, saying if you want to talk about it, talk about it, too, so McCain did that, and the association is out there. It's up now to the people of America to decide whether that association is important enough to them to research and find out more about a person's judgment and truthfulness.
QUESTION: (CBS) Just to follow up on that, you said that, you know, 'Obama doesn't see America the way you and I see America.' Do you think Obama loves America as much as you do?
A: I know Obama loves America. I'm sure that is why he's running for president. It's because he wants to do what he believes is in the best interest of this great nation. I believe that our ticket can do a better job for America as we reduce taxes and reign in government and allow our private sector and our families to prosper, to grow, and to keep more of what they earn and produce so that they can reinvest according to our own priorities. I think that that is best to get the economy back on track. It's a better agenda for America. But I don't question at all Barack Obama's love for this great country.
QUESTION: (CNN) It's unusual for a Republican campaign to be campaigning in North Carolina and Indiana halfway through October in an election year, are you concerned you are spending resources in states and places you shouldn't be.
A: I think it's wise not to take anything for granted and assume that any state is a lock for either ticket, so if there were more hours in the day and more availabilities I would hope that we can be in even more states even those that maybe were down in maybe those that we assume are a lock. I don't want to take anything for granted, and my input has been let us get out there to as many states as we have time for.
QUESTION: (NBC) Governor, the Washington Post and Peggy Noonan both said independently today that you are unqualified to be commander in chief. How do you respond to that?
A: Well, we talked a lot already about my executive experience that will be put to good use as vice president and if heaven forbid, anything happened to John McCain, if we're so blessed to be elected president and vice president, that executive experience will be put to good use, as coming from a mayor and a manager, small business owner and a governor and a regulator of oil and gas. That's important, but as important is the world view that I share with John McCain and the intentions that we have there to put in place policies that will put government back on the side of the American people and we'll win these wars and help secure our nation. Those things all put together will be put to good use and if I felt I was not ready I would never have said yes, I wanna take on this responsibility, this challenge, this opportunity to run for vice president as his partner.
QUESTION: (WSJ) You talk a lot about voter fraud. How concerned are you guys about that and what can you do at this point when we're just 18 days out to kind of put any safeguards in place?
A: I think voters are very concerned about voter fraud and as more and more revelation comes in these 13 states that are now under investigation for potential voter fraud, I think that more American voters are becoming very very concerned. There are safeguards already that are in place but evidently they're not being adhered to or implemented certainly in Ohio if the secretary there not seeming to desire to reassure voters that all securities are being taken care of to make sure that there is no, there's no fraudulent activity at all, that those who are registered to vote are eligible to vote. And obviously there's proof that that is not happening right now. So American voters are concerned about this, I'm concerned about it.
QUESTION (Fox) Did you ask John McCain to bring up Reverend Wright more and if so what did he say?
A: No I have not asked him to bring it up.
FOLO: Do you think he should?
It's up to him you know and what he chooses to discuss. I think that calling someone--an opponent on their record and even on their associations isn't--it's not mean spirited. It's not negative campaigning. It is fair to the electorate to have the discussion - the debate about someone's record and associations, but I haven't advised Senator McCain on who he should bring up and what his topics of discussion should be.
QUESTION: (CNN) How often during the day do you talk to Sen. McCain?
A: Uh, a couple of times of day. And e really enjoy being able to campaign together and I wish we could do more of that together because we have I think some great synergy and really great chemistry and we get along so well that not only is it very productive but its also fun to be able to campaign with him he's got so much energy and its always a good time for all of our camps and our families to be together but we speak on the phone on the phone when we're snot physically there together campaigning together on the trail.
FOLO: What do you talk about?
A: We talk about the news of the day, about what the issues are that seem to be resonating that, certainly, that you all are reporting on. And just a lot of reinforcement and encouragement of each other that again we are on the right track and explaining to all Americans our plans to reduce taxes and to get our economy back on track. They're great conversations, and very productive, very helpful for both of us.
QUESTION: (Fox) Are you excited for tomorrow night? Can you give us a preview?
A: Oh man. I'm excited for tomorrow night. I have no idea what to expect because I haven't seen any scripts or anything else yet, but it will be fun. The opportunity to show American television watchers anyway that you get to have a sense of humor through all of this or even just this really would be wearin', tearin' on you so an opportunity to show that sense of humor and that side of all of this I look forward to it.
QUESTION: (CBS) Isn't Reverend Wright a lot more relevant than Bill Ayers? I mean he sat in his pews for 20 years.
A: That's up to John McCain to decide. (Crosstalk) That's true. He sat in the pews for 20 years and heard Reverend Wright say some things that most people would find a bit concerning. But again that is John McCain's call.
QUESTION: (WSJ) Last night at the fund raiser you made a comment about the area being a pro-America area of the country. I was wondering if you could explain that a little bit more, what you meant by pro-America?
A: Every area, every area across this great country where we're stopping and where also the other ticket is stopping and getting to speak at these rallies and speak with the good Americans, it's all pro-America. I was just reinforcing the fact that there, where I was, there's good patriotic people there in these rallies, so excited about positive change and reform of government that's coming that they are so appreciative of hearing our message, hearing our plan. Not, not any one area of America is more pro-America patriotically than others.
QUESTION: (CNN) Are you going back to Alaska to vote?
A: We don't know what the plan will be yet on there if--if I'm not there physically we will be applying for that absentee ballot and we'll do the early voting there. Yeah. And we'll do it fairly.

As someone who grew up in a fairly large city (Tulsa) with hardworking parents who taught me moral values, I am SICK of being put down by Sarah Palin.
Palin’s repeated glorification of ‘real’ Americans in small towns, and distinguishing between ‘pro-America’ parts of the country and others, is insulting and offensive. Here’s one big-city conservative who has had enough, and won’t be voting for McCain.
John McCain’s pick of Palin was a catastrophic error. Surely he wasn’t aware that Palin had such contempt for large numbers of Americans. His hasty choice has ended any chance for a McCain presidency.
Couldn't say it any better than eloquent Molly Green:
Palin's 'one of you' pretense insults voters' intelligence

What is it about Sarah Palin that gets me so riled up?
Belinda Luscombe's recent article in Time, "Why Some Women Hate Sarah Palin," gives several possible answers, including "She's too pretty" and "She's too confident."
But my Palin problem has nothing to do with the fact both of us are women, and I don't have a problem with her being pretty or confident.
I do have a problem with her being wildly unqualified.
Two years ago, Palin was mayor of a town with 1/25th the population of Lexington. She is now governor of a state whose population is less than Jefferson County's.
Palin's unpreparedness for national office is painful to watch. Her acceptance of the vice presidential spot on the GOP ticket and her belief that she has a chance of winning reveals her assumption that American voters are content to settle for a sub-par candidate.
But I'm not content to settle, and I'm not alone.
Palin tells us continually: "I am one of you." This façade is one of the few weapons in her political arsenal, and she just keeps shooting it off. Perhaps most frustrating is that she actually isn't one of us.
Her net worth is well over $1 million. When she isn't purporting to be poor or diverting questions with charm, she's engaging in "misery battles," contests in which candidates fight over who has endured the most hardship. Instead of discussing who is better prepared and who has the best policies, recent debates have featured "who really has it bad," as if suffering were in some way quantifiable.
Certainly candidates of both parties use this tactic. Trouble is, Palin doesn't have much else.
Palin supporters say she is getting flak for using a folksy approach that differs from that of the typical candidate. They say she is being discriminated against for using colloquialisms and "normal" language. They tell me Palin isn't stupid.
By no means do I think she is stupid. It is precisely because I believe she is a smart woman that her debating method and campaign rhetoric come across as patronizing.
Palin hopes that by using Joe Sixpack, hockey mom, pit-bull, you betcha' and darn, she will convince us that she doesn't have a personal hairstylist or own an airplane. She hopes to convince us that she doesn't support a party and policies that would work against her very own economic interests were she truly one of us.
She hopes that by winking she can hoodwink the American public into believing that a candidate's personal charm is somehow more important than experience and expertise.
What we forget is that our president isn't supposed to be one of us. There is a reason that the vast majority of Americans don't run for president: The vast majority of Americans are not prepared for the job.
Imagine meeting with a doctor to discuss your impending open-heart surgery. She tells you that she has never actually done surgery before, but she winks and says she got a B-plus on frog dissection in biology class.
I'd have dinner with that surgeon, but I wouldn't let her cut me open.
While I am happy to hear that our candidates are shining examples of the American dream, I don't want them to be Average Joes.
Palin has proclaimed that she is average in class and interests, but has not proven that she is above average in her understanding of critical domestic and foreign policy issues.
This isn't just unacceptable; it's dangerous.
Should Palin be elected, she, like President Bush, would be used as a blank page to serve the purposes of those in power behind the scenes, those upon whom she is totally dependent for counsel.
The most offensive part of Palin's condescending, self-conscious use of vernacular is that she thinks she must stoop to an unprofessional level to appeal to the middle class. The unspoken assumption is that the middle class isn't interested in a candidate who takes debate seriously.
But the truth is, we want a candidate who understands that different situations call for different behaviors — that winks and colloquialisms are appropriate in a casual interview or in conversation with voters, but are inappropriate and disrespectful during a formal debate.
Americans want a candidate who understands struggle, and we want a candidate with a wide appeal. But we need to know that our country's representative will conduct herself with grace and professionalism when meeting with other world leaders and that she will be able to deal with any situation that arises with the appropriate respect, gravity and expertise.
The average American is capable of understanding serious debate. Palin doesn't need to pander to us. We're not choosing a pal, we're choosing a leader who will exert a huge amount of control over our sons and brothers, our daughters and sisters, our money, our bodies and our lives.
Every American wants and deserves a leader who is prepared to lead. And Palin is not.
Every American wants and deserves a leader who is prepared to lead. And Palin is not.

That's why I wouldn't vote for Obama if my life depended on it. "Spread the wealth"...give me a break. Obama's un-American.
Waaahhhh...Good Lord. Shut up. All of you. Sarah Palin has more experience in her finger than your God, Barack Obama. And, yes you are all idiots.
Tulsa's a city???? Is that what they told you guys in school? Pfffft
Yeah, when Americans think of bourgeois, metro elites... we think of Tulsans. Too freaking funny.
Riiight. And Obama is ready to lead? God, you guys are simply stupid.

Isn't that woman, Sarah Palin, a wonderful gift to America (statement, not a question). I find it incredibly sad that people such as arcu waste so very many bits of electronic ink attempting to defame or put down someone who is such a role model. I'd vote for her more than once if I had the address of Barry's ACORN represntative.
ARCU....jealous much? "Her net worth is $1 million." Uhhh....so? I make 45K a year, my wife makes 40K a year, we live in a 1800 square foot house in suburban Tampa, FL. I and my employer invest monthly in a 401K and have since graduating from a small college in Alabama in 1996. Between my house, my 401K, my wife's teacher's pension built up in the last 12 years, our net worth is 1 million. Not hard to do for a hardworking, solidly middle class family. Get over it.
"I do have a problem with her being wildly unqualified"
@arcu
The above quote is very telling & wildy ignorant in relation to Obamas experience. Which if you actually ingaged your brain for a moment you would actually realize she has more experience in an executive position(regardless of size) than someone who is actually running for President, (which last I checked she was not) I know I know--she is a heart beat away, but in all reality she is the Vice President.
You will respond with the usual ignorant screed (Left) but one thing I do know, & please copy & paste this comment (it will come true)
The only thing you will see from voters of Obama in 6 months to a year is Buyers Remorse.
She did OK with the President of Pakistan!

Interesting that Palin is quoted as saying that no part of the country is any more pro-America than any other, and the very first "big city conservative" commenter here says that they are sick of her distinguishing between pro-america areas and others.
I love her! what a breath of fresh air she is! God bless you Sarah Palin.
I'm with Peggy Noonan - UNQUALIFIED.
John McCain what in the world were you thinking? I hate the fact that I even know of her. I say we take her off the endangered list and lock her up in a mental ward.

Bless her heart. She reminds me of my cousin Debbie.
I guess she's too inexperienced to know JOBS isn't a three letter word.
You're offended at her small town references? I grew up in a small town like hers in Minnesota. I have watched with disgust as she took shots from big city people who are just face it, SNOBs. They looked for her to fall on her face at the convention. She aced it. They looked for her to succumb to the brilliance of Biden. And she nailed him. AND SHE DOESN'T CALL "JOBS" A 3-LETTER WORD. When I read or listen to people trash her experience, I grin thinking of a 4-year Senator in the TOP spot for the opponents. And I think of Truman who was treated in 1944 and 1948 just like she has been. If Michael Reagan thinks she is just like his father, I simply say "You said it Michael." By the way, has Biden had 60,000 people show up at his rally yet?

Sarah Palin is one of the most authentic politicians I have seen in years. She doesn't bend in the political wind. If you want to get the garbage out of Washington, you have to vote for someone who is the farthest away from the slimepool that is Washington DC. Go Sarah! The silent majority will speak on November 4.

Sarah Palin has more ability than Obama & Biden combined. The Obama-Biden tickets radical marxist idea of taking money from the produtive workers to redistribute it to their cronys disqualifies them for the office of president & vice president.
Their naive desire for appeasement of America hating tyrants & Muslim jihadists makes them dangerous. Sarah Palin on her worst day is better than Obama on his best day.

The Democratic Party I loved all of my life is gone. The Obama Democrats are full of hate and rage. Nasty!!!!
I just had to bring it to Iblake's attention JOBS buddy is "4" letters JOB is 3 letters. A job is what makes it possible for people to "support themselves" with out needing someone else to take care of us. Well that is unless you are handycaped
Has anyone noticed most of Palin's answers sounded just like her script in the VP debate?
To those who buy into the campaign propaganda that Palin has equal or more experience than Obama, I'm sorry to say you are so misinformed you don't even realize how laughable that comment is. You would be well-served to read something besides Republican campaign material. Just read about his experience on Wikipedia, for starters.
Palin has has failed to exhibit the capability to discuss any significant topic in other than broad, scripted language---including energy, at which she claims expertise. However, T.Boone Pickens summarized his meeting with her (on energy alternatives) as "she wanted to understand"...not "she understood".
We can't even be sure about her "executive" experience. The testimony by her own staff in the abuse of power/ethics investigation reveal that Todd Palin is heavily involved in governing Alaska---having total access to staff, sitting in on meetings, getting copied her emails, et al. This is frightening; she has allowed him to blur the line between being governor, chief of staff, and spouse. I have to wonder how much their fundamentalist beliefs, as in the husband is the final decision-maker, have played a part in this blurring of boundaries.
I don't know which is sadder--the fact that she doesn't seem to know what she doesn't know (or doesn't care) or that her supporters are unable to watch her in any unscripted situation and not recognize her serious inadequacies.
If Republicans want to vote for McCain regardless of VP choice, fine...just please stop the contortionist acts to convince yourself that she's not in over her head. And that Sen. Mccain blew it. Which says something about him, too.

Did anyone heard about this? I can’t believe Obama did perform Islamic-Tambiko before starting running for president and pretend he was never a Muslim. There is book in Ebay my friend email me with title “Barack Obama: The First US Muslim President?” mentioned that he did perform tambiko. This is out of control!
As a Far left Lifelong liberal atheist american, who has voted up and down democrat in every election every year and plan to continue doing so after i am dead, i just wan't to say that i am deeply hurt and offended that the Democratic party chose an unqualified inexperienced fraud for a candidate and presented him as the post racial person but ended up setting race relations back 30 years with the constant cries of racism every time anyone questions his associations, lack of record, and questionable far left leanings. The fact that every other day, he trots out another surrogate or in the tank media source blaring the racism cry is revolting and out of line. For the first time in my adult life i am not proud of my party and will be voting a straight republican ballot.
THe democrats do not deserve the white house and i urge all felllow democrats with an ounce of decency and fairness and honesty and patriotism to vote republican up and down ticket and give the Democratic party the long overdue enema it needs.
"What we forget is that our president isn't supposed to be one of us."
Elitist much?
Se ya at the polls...
*** Her net worth is well over $1 million. ***
Not even close. The Palin's ASSETS are just over $1 million but they owe debt against that, including a mortgage. Their net worth is in the $500,000 range.
The concerns about Palin's experience are valid. I had some of the same concerns when I first read about her on a blog discussing possible VP picks (well before the GOP convention).
However, she is at least as, and in my opinion more, qualified as Obama based on experience. Early in the Democratic primaries, I was impressed by Obama and thought he would make a good V.P. candidate, or maybe gubernatorial material.
But, seriously... I'd rather have the Vice President undergo on-the-job training than the President. Early defenders of Obama were saying that he'll have advisors for those subject he's not expert on... why don't they apply the same reasoning to Palin?
"What we forget is that our president isn't supposed to be one of us."

The only reason I am voting for McCain can be summed up with two words: Sarah Palin. It was by far the best decision McCain has ever made. We absolutely LOVE her in the heartland. And Obamba? He is dangerously unqualified to be president. Sarah Palin has far more exective experience that Obama, and yet she is running for VP, not president.
When I see the crap - and I mean CRAP - spewed by the left in this country, I fear for her. I believe that the outright hatred shown by the left towards Sarah Palin, and the hatred shown to any Republicans will one day be the thing that starts the next civil war in this country. I do believe there will be a civil war, especially when I see rabid lunatics on the left state they hope to see Republicans die. This crap has got to stop, no matter who wins in November. As for me, I am voting for McCain.
What experiences do either Peggy Noonan or the Wash Times editorial board have that would make them qualified to judge her qualifications?
I've always thought it was silly for newspapers to endorse candidates. 100 years ago it made since; when the endorsements came from the newspaper owners, people who had acheived success in business and sometimes public service. Now it's ridiculous to think that someone with no experience outside the (very cloistered) world's of academia and journalism has any special insight into public issues.
No matter what else, Sarah Palin has far more experience actually RUNNING something than BarryO.
She has negotiated an international deal (with Canada, but still international). What has Barry done, that is even remotely equivalent?
She has met a payrool in the commercial fishing industry. Again, give me a BarryO equivalent please, NOT including 'running' a campaign.
In point of fact, the VICE-presidency is a learning position, the Presidency is not.
Sarah Palin is the ONE I have been waiting for to be in high political office for over 50 years. She is absolutely the most authentic, sharpest and savvyest person I have ever seen run for office. Fools who question Sarah's qualifications for Vice President and suggest Obama has adequate qualifications for President are brain dead. That includes "academics", "journalists", "celebrities"and miscellaneous Europeans. Vote McCain/Palin and preserve our American way of life.
