Powell Endorses Obama

Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama this morning on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Powell:

"I have said to Mr. McCain that I admire all he has done. I have some concerns about the direction that the party has taken in recent years it has moved more to the right than I would like to see it."

Powell said McCain seemed "unsure" as to how to deal with economic problems facing the nation. "I was also concerned at the selection of Gov. Palin. ... I don't believe she's ready to be president of the United States, which is the job of the vice president. So that raised some question in my mind as to the judgment Sen. McCain made."

Obama, Powell said -- "I think he has a definitive way of doing business that would serve us well." The GOP's approach and appeal has gotten narrower, he said. "Mr. Obama, at the same time, has given us a more inclusive, broader reach into the needs and aspirations of our people. He's crossing lines, ethnic lines, racial lines, generational lines."

Here he is talking to reporters outside the NBC studios in Washington this morning: "Obama has demonstrated the kind of calm, patient, intellectual, steady approach to problem solving that I think we need in this country."

There is no doubt in my mind that the US will greatly benefit from the choice of Obama as the next President of the most powerful nation on earth.
The contrary will be a huge mistake. The priece of such a mistake the american citizens will have to learn to pay for four years if they choose to do so. The world and the US need someone with a more inclusive approach in dealing with international affairs.

AFTER THE LAST 8 YEARS MR. BUSH IS JUST ON HIS WAY TO A COMPLETELY UNAIRCONDITIONED PRISON IN DARKEST BELGIAN CONGO: yeah hi, do you believe a judge should go to prison for attempting to rule that attempted murder by forcible suffocation not only isn't a crime at all in florida, it isn't a tort at all in florida, in fact it's a medical procedure, for which priviledge i'm forced to give the state my whole life savings? doesn't that sound bad? this is a real lawsuit, orange co. case # 2003 ca 5314. i am totally unrepresented, haven't been able to find a lawyer in 7 years. the judge is cynthia mackinnon, and if i could fire her i would have fired her four years ago. after all this time i still have no clue whether she is republican or democrat. also, the united states ratified the united nations 1984 Convention against Torture in 1994, however, it is not held responsible in any way for acts of torture committed by government agents on its soil since it has refused to recognize Article 22 of the Convention. this will change as soon as possible.

this is the same colin powell who when in front of the UN and the american people and told a lie
about the same war that obama has called the wrong war this guy had a glass bottle and scare the american people now he wants us to beleive him as far as i am concern this guy should be put in jail.
he has lost our trust.just like obama

Well take it from one of the least effective Secretary of States in the history of the Untied States! I was always against Powell being appointed as one.

Stephen - he was one of the "least effective" Secretary of State because the administration hired him on and then expected him to play yes-man. And if you were, as you say, "always against him," what would have clued you in? His experience as Reagan's National Security Advisor, or his heavily-decorated military career?

I just got off the phone with a friend in Austin, Texas who has been a lifelong Republican and is now voting for Obama. His reason, Obama makes more sense for the future of his children and grandchilden. He said "We had our chance and blew it....we're not blowing it for the kids." He further said that with Colin Powells endorsement of Obama and his "geI nerational change" statement, the penny finally dropped and he just knew what he had to do. I also talked with friends in Arizona who have always voted for McCain, and the Republicans and they are voting Obama too.

General Powell was very brave today in giving his endorsement to Obama. Some Republicans like Pat Buchanan is already injecting race as a part of his decision. Pat is way out of the universe. I believe him and some of his party members really wants to make this election about race. They really do not want to see a person of color as head of the United States. Well I would like to let them know that they are people of color too whom like General Powell took a long hard look at the 2 candidates and decided who is better to lead this country with the turmoil it has been facing. Obama just happen to be the guy with the darker color skin and mix heritage that seems capable of being the next president to challenge the times America is facing. Look if Obama was a white man he would be getting the same support. Blacks and others have always voted for a white president, so this very notion to imply that blacks or people of color is voting for Obama is an insult. I for one was not on the Obama ship on the onset. I did not think so terrible of McCain, but after his reckless VP choice, and say one thing and do another has turned me off. He said he would not run a dirty campaign, the robocalls he was against he is now for. We cannot have a president who keeps backsliding, and can't figure out where he is. Most importantly McCain and Palin keeps talking about getting rid of "Big Government". Well, since they are so against it why not start by removing your themselves.

Sorry about the typos in my last post...I was just so excited LOL

I think the catch phrase for this election could be "it's about your kids and grandkids stupic."

This "race" rubbish is just not playing. I'm a white woman and I believe that just like McCain and Obama I am simply a member of the "human race." I repeat what Colin Powell said in his endorsement speech "it's time for a GENERATIONAL CHANGE". The younger generation couldn't possibly screw it up anymore than my generation has.

Mccain's connection of Islam to terrorism is completely naive and ignorant. Powell is absolutely correct in that it is an inappropriate approach from the Mccain campaign to connect Obama to a Muslim and connecting Muslims to act of terrorism. Regardless of one's religion it shouldn't matter, America is supposed to be the land where all religions are accepted and Mccain's campaign is taking the dangerous road of angering people around the world with this ignorant comment. Politics is politics and one has to get their hands dirty to win but this not only criticizes Obama but is a deeply offensive comment to Muslims around the world. This is not the type of president America would want or should be represented by.

Why does this not come as any suprise to anyone?

All of you Obama worshipers are like sheep heading for the slaughter. The great and powerful radical socialist will save us all. LOL. During the primaries the polls in PA, OH and NH had Obama up 10. We all know how that turned out. Powell's endorsement is really no big deal. I mean, wasn't it the media and democrats who said he misled the American people with his WMD presentation. Liberals are hypocritical idiots. Hope you all enjoy paying your new taxes to carry the less fortunate. How many underprivileged kids could Obama have sent to community college with the hundreds of millions of dollars he's spending to buy the election. It's disgusting.

Wonder what took him so long--oh, I know, he was waiting to make certain Obama was ahead in the polls before he made that commitment. That's his style.

The other big news is that Sarah Palin refuses to release her medical records. Could it be that baby Twig is nowehere to be found in the records. Powell did the right things. Once the Palin baby scandal hits, the GOP will be DONE.

I believe Joe Biden has not released his medical records either. Maybe his health is worse than McCains?

How come no one is talking about Todd Palin and his membership in a group that wants to seperate Alaska from the United States?

Is anyone disturbed by Sarah Palin "hunting" from helicopters?

It seems to me that there are some that have the same narrow views that have plagued this campaign....To look at someone based on their skin color and their individual fears to elect someone as president who will have a direct impact on their children's future. The selection of Sarah Palin was the first blemish with John McCain; The robo calls was the second mistake; How can you expect to bring people together when you put things out there like that. General Powell made it clear that the Republican Party has made it very hard for McCain to win the election. McCain made it equally hard for himself as well. It is time for our generation to take control of this country and lead it into the next century. What we have noticed is a shift in politics for the next 30 years. People are looking at the candidates based on their views and not their skin color.

I would like to hear Powel discuss the lies from the administration, maybe after the elections.

I do believe Powell has a story to tell. I like him; he needs our prayers and he should be careful.

I am a independent,if Powell had went with Mccain all you republicans would be jumping threw doughnut holes, dont lie!!!!!!By the way powell resigned in 2005 with these words (I am leaving the Bush administration,it has been the biggest disgrace and embarrassment of my career).
Hes got it right this time with Obama/Biden,sounds like Palin helped make up his mind, mind too.

IS COLIN A Traitor?
Fresh this morning is the news that General Colin Powell, has endorsed Barack Obama for President.
Does this make him a traitor? My answer is yes, and here’s why.
First I do not believe voting democrat when you are a republican is reason to call him a traitor. We all should vote people not party. For this I commend his independence. It is not easy to be so connected in a party as a public official and publicly vote against your party. On this point I admire his courage.
I believe he has displayed cowardice and characteristics of a traitor for other more serious reasons, let me list a few.
- I think he is a traitor for turning his back on the military policies he embraces for political reasons. He never said he was endorsing Obama because Obama was right about the beginning of the Iraq war, the surge, or weapons of mass destruction. He said he was endorsing Obama, essentially because Obama was an inspirational figure and John McCain was running negative ads. Does he not care that the military stands to suffer greatly if Obama is elected. Does he not care that Obama’s policies had they been enacted at the time of the surge would have created many more casualties in this war? Is he not concerned with winning the war on terror?
- I think he is a traitor for refusing to take responsibility for the problems of the war in Iraq that we have experienced. It was he and others who was advising the President on the course of action he should take from 2001-2004. It was Secretary Powell who sat in front of the UN Security Council making the case about WMDs. And now he can simply resign, point blame at the President and the administration and become this hallowed figure again in the political world whose endorsement is sought by every candidate of every party? Some say he was forced and coerced within the administration to follow the “Bush Doctrine”. If he was forced to go along and wasn’t able to speak his mind or able to lead change within the administration, If he had to against his own will go before the UN to make a case that he did not believe then he is not only a traitor he is liar and a wimp.
- Third I believe he is a traitor because of his refusal to report for duty when called. Colin Powell today could be President, Vice-President or could hold just about any office he chose where he could make a difference. Instead, when asked in the late 90’s to run for President he declined, when asked to be Bush’s VP he declined, He could have been either Party’s Nominee in the past 8 years, He could have been either Party’s VP nominee in the past 8 years and yet he refused. Now, however he goes on Meet The Press and scathes a sitting governor for not being experienced enough to be VP. There is an old proverb that says, “never criticize the work of someone who is willing to do a job you refuse to do”. Instead of stepping in and helping his country as his training has taught him, he chooses to sit back, refuse to engage and pick apart a person who has put their whole life and family on the line for her country.
- Finally, I believe Colin Powell is a traitor for voting on the “color of a man’s skin rather than the content of his character”. The fact is that Barack Obama doesn’t really share many positions on most issues with Colin Powell. He does share skin color. As someone mentioned earlier today, “show me the young inexperienced white liberal that Colin Powell has endorsed.” Colin Powell is not a liberal. He supported, Bush over Gore, (and had worked in the Clinton Administration), He supported Bush over Kerry and now he chooses an inexperienced Senator who is rated the most liberal Senator in America over an experienced leader and American military hero at a time when our country needs him most.
General Powell thanks for your service to our country in the past. My belief is you have failed us this time.

Wake up people! This is another sign that race is more important to blacks than any other factor in America. Forget any progress in the last generation to establish a colorless society. This election is making it obvious that blacks in american are clinging to racism as a rallying call. If Barack Obama is elected president I fear vindictiveness against whites that will create a race war.

Powell's endorsement of Obama does not verify Obama's judgement, but rather brings Powell's judgement into question. Powell says that Obama is ready to lead ... WHY? ... Regardless of Powell's last minute endorsement, Obama is still the most liberal senator in congress ... who accomplished nothing in his meager 3 years in office, except voting present 160 times, and campaigning for President, as well as associating with anti-American racists and domestic terrorists ... and, taking America down the road to socialism. Obama betrayed a friendship of 20 years, for personal ambition. Powell betrayed his friendship with McCain. McCain did not betray his fellow prisoners, even during 5 years of torture. These facts speak volumes about who these men really are, and whether or not we can trust them.
