Obama's Grandmother Has Died

Statement from Barack Obama and Maya Soetoro-Ng on the death of their grandmother, Madelyn Dunham:

"It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer. She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility. She was the person who encouraged and allowed us to take chances. She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and left this world with the knowledge that her impact on all of us was meaningful and enduring. Our debt to her is beyond measure.

"Our family wants to thank all of those who sent flowers, cards, well-wishes, and prayers during this difficult time. It brought our grandmother and us great comfort. Our grandmother was a private woman, and we will respect her wish for a small private ceremony to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to any worthy organization in search of a cure for cancer."

Please be comforted, because Grand'Ma is just comfortably seated at the very front seat of the heavenly father Tribune to watch Her favorite Son making the Greatest History in the Land that She loves and admires dearly.

We extend our deepest and most heartfelt sympathy. May you find comfort and peace in knowing she is at rest in the hand of our God. Peace be with you all.

To the next President of the United States who took time off to make one last visit to see his grandmother, I offer the following: Madelyn Dunham honored her family by the manner in which she lived her life. Barack will never forget her, nor the last time he saw her, as she prepared for her journey and both said goodbye, and now she has "slipped the surly bonds of earth" to "touch the face of God." May tomorrow bring more light and happiness into your life.

What a loss for the Obama family! And sad that she could not have savored the coming Obama election victory. Speaking as one who did not have the priviledge of knowing any of my grandparent, take comfort in the fact that you knew her, and she knew her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

I am very sorry to here of your Grandmother passing. Everything is going to be ok. I believe you will be the next President of the United States. Your family is in my prayers, both for you and the country.

Sadness from the loss of a loved one comes from the absence of their presence in this world. But remember your Grandmother, in spirit, is now able to be where her body would not allow. God bless you as you finish the race she was proud of you for running. I dedicate my vote to your grandmother. Obama '08

May her blessed and inspiring spirit reside over you, Mr. Obama and your family. May her story bring you great courage and resolve. May memories of her stay oh so close to your hearts. May she experience our collective victory tomorrow as you embrace this broken country and make us whole.

As we say in the Jewish tradition, and as is reflected in your own name: May her memory be for a blessing.

Blessings and symapahy to the Obama family, I so wish she could have seen you inagurated, but I'm sure she left this earth smiling to know what a fine man you are and her role in what you have become. Make her proud, you make us proud!

My God Bless your Grandmother, you and your family.

As a cancer survivor I want to share this these kind words.

WHAT CANCER CANNOT DO!

It cannot cripple Love

It cannot shatter Hope

It cannot corrode Faith

It cannot destroy Peace

It cannot kill Friendship

It cannot suppress Memories

It cannot silence Courage

It cannot invade the Soul

It cannot steal eternal Life

It cannot conquer the Spirit

I want to express my deepest sympathy on the death of your grandmother. I know she was your pillar. She was proud of your accomplishments and would have been very proud of you. Dear Barack and family,

I lost two aunts, an uncle, a young cousin, and my own dear sweet daddy to cancer. My heart goes out to you and the family in this time.

Over the months, we have come to have such a great appreciation for those who helped bring you to this moment in history, especially your grandmother and mother. We are full of gratitude for their lives, which will in time have such an impact on the whole world through you, we believe.

Please know that my husband works daily for a cure to some kinds of cancer, not much helped by the lack of funding now prevalent throughout our country for anything necessary for the growth of knowledge or the arts. But he and so many like him will never give up until they find what they seek. Someday there will be a cure or cures for this evil. I believe you will help bring it about.

May you have peace in knowing you did all you could for this beloved woman who helped raise you. And may you have courage to take her memory with you all through the coming years as you go forward from this time.

Thank you, Madelyn, for the fine young man who will lead and serve with grace, humility, and justice. What a gift to the world. Barack and Family: my deepest condolences. We love you

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my own Grandmother last year, and it was painful. The hope and wisdom in your words is a lasting monument to the greatness of your grandmother. She was a strong woman, and she instilled that strength in you and your sister. The gift she gave the world through her convictions that she passed down to her grandchildren will be realized, and the world is a better place because she was a part of it.

I know there's nothing that can be said to heal the pain in the hearts of all those who knew her, but know that she is in heaven looking down, and she'll be cheering for you and giving you strength for the rest of your life.

My prayers are with you, and I'm sorry for your loss.

Dear Mr Obama, dear members of this wonderful family,

it his with great sadness and emotion that, here in France (Paris), we learn that Madelyn just disapeared.
Of course, it is especially sad that she left you so close to a crucial time, but this certainly means that she just has to see it from the sky, and from there will protect you and bless you, for the great accomplishment of your first term.

You are a great family, that inspire respect, hope and love. Many people are convinced here, that you have exactly the mind and spirit to make the transition towards the new world and its challenges. And to make it in harmony, peace abd mutual respect.

God bless you .

Dear Senator Barack Obama

I am incredibly sorry to hear about your loss. She will always be with you no matter what. I am definitely sure that she is proud of you for what you have accomplished so far. It is important that you win this presidency. If you are discouraged just do it for your grandmother and what she would want you to do. You have deeply inspired me in many ways. Please continue to have the ambition to win this election and not only for.

God bless you

I will also pray for you sorry for the typo.

With our deepest sympathy,

The Farrells
A family in Oregon

My deepest condolences to you. Your grandmother will always be with you and her joy in your accomplishments will endure. I remember my own grandmother who was such a large part of my upbringing. I felt like I had lost a best friend when she passed, but now, many years later, I take great comfort in her memory.

I wish you success tomorrow. My prayers are with you and yours.

Dear Senator Obama:
The dreams of your grandmother had come true. We all admire you and so does the rest of the world. No matter what the future brings, you are a winner. That is what matters in our heart. We love you as a hope and think that your grandmother is in you, as a realization of a very simple and hopeful dream. Never give up! The world is with you. Please accept our condolences.
Love,
Luis and Roxana Garcia

My deepest sympathy. I believe she chose this time to cross over so that she could participate more fully in your victory of being elected President of the United States of America. Rather than languishing in a sick bed, she will be right there with you! How wonderful that she'll have an unclouded view of the exciting happenings of tomorrow. I know she'll be so proud. God bless you and your family.

Sen. Obama you are an amazing man, one that your grandmother I am sure was very proud of. Keep being a good man and doing the right things for you wife and daughters. Charity starts at home and spread abroad President Obama.

Im sorry that your grandmother died as soon as the voting was about to start

I'm sure her dreams came true.
