"The Question Is, 'Do I Trust Senator Lieberman?'"

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid affirmed today that Sen. Joe Lieberman will remain a member of the Democratic caucus and chairman of the Homeland Security Comm.

Per Hotline's Maura O'Brien, here are the highlights of Reid's remarks:

"Joe Lieberman is a Democrat, he's part of this caucus."

"We accepted the statement made by one of the more senior members of the Senate that this was not the time for retribution. It was a time for moving forward on the problems of this country.“

"We have all kinds of problems that we need to move forward on, and we need to be unified. We need to be unified as Democrats, we need to be unified as a Senate, and that's what this meeting that we just complete was all about: Moving forward."

"I pretty well understand anger. I would defy anyone to be more angry than I was. ... But I also believe that if you look at the problems we face as a nation, is this a time we walk out of here saying, 'Boy, did we get even?' I am very satisfied with what we did today. I feel good about what we did today. I don't apologize to anyone [about] what we did today. We're moving forward."

"The question is, 'Do I trust Senator Lieberman?' The answer is 'yes' I trust Senator Lieberman.'"

Hopefully this is symbolic and they can boot his ass out next year.

No, I have watching him since 2000, Gore's running mate, he is snake in the grass. He is not to be trusted. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!

They rewarded him for his spine in opposing the far left by giving him the most rarest of gifts, they gave him free time. They'll now dump this minor committee in someone else's lap giving Joe has more time to go do his own thing.

There are none so blind as they will not see--the far left movement to 'dump joe' has always ignored that they're up against a political jedai master. When it comes to politics in Conn, Joe Lieberman literally wrote the book.

It's Lights Out on the left--the Democratic Caucus has spoken. Spine matters more than support.

"It's not time for retribution"
Does it mean the traitor will pay for what he did in future when the Democrats get 60 or above senate majority or when this traitor run for re-election in 2012?
It's just ridiculous.
What is the truth of party loyalty?
Do democratic members need to have this basic concept and integrity anymore??
Stupid and foolish move today.
Any decent human being will make himself disappear if he/she did something so disgraceful and contradictory to his/her own principle solely because of his own interest. UNFORTUNATELY, this shameless traitor has extraordinarily thick hide to face the world!!!!

Joe Lieberman is not a vote for Change We Believe In. His presence is an INSULT to the idea of responsible political conduct.
My money and time and support for this operation is closed for business.

This is sickening! Literally, I feel nauseated. As a life-long Dem living in the South, I've taken some real heat for my views dating back to the Civil Rights era.As a white voter supporting Obama with great enthusiasm,I got some snide comments and cold shoulders from people I don't like anyway. But if I can demonstrate this tiny bit of backbone, why can't the Democratic leadership do as much? No wonder this Congress accomplished so little since the 2006 elections. Despite heroic efforts by honorable Dem Senators,Dem leadership caved to Pres. Bush on almost every issue of substance. Allowing Sen. L. to defect when he didn't like the election outcome in Conn and then actively work against our Presidential candidate in this historic election makes the Dems look whipped instead of gloriously victorious. Better to lose one Senate seat than lose the respect of all Americans, including your own party members. While the Dem Caucus cowers, Sen.Joe, self-seeking, narcissitic and victorious, dons once again the persona of the mild mannered uncle who meekly stays in the background, just doing what's right.Ha!
Henry Reid says good ol'Joe usually voted with the Dems "except on the Iraq war" resolution. Well, Henry, more than 4000 American combat deaths of our finest young people, their horrible injuries and the toll on Iraqi civilians, makes that a Gigantic "Except" And none of us will be too surprised when Sen L.votes along party lines next session. Republican Party, that is.

Good thing for Lieberman that Obama is a better human being than he is. One little nod from Obama and old Lieberman would be stripped of those committees. You can bet he has been told he either votes with the Democrats and keeps his trap shut or he will be out for sure.

Now we get to wait and see if he votes with Obama or McCain, huh?

I am also disgusted with the Democrats keeping this two-faced war-mongerer. I would have loved to see Lieberman booted not just from all committees but from the Senate altogether.

"The caucus did, however, strip Lieberman of his spot on the Environment and Public Works Committee."

GOOD, at least the party shows some backbone. He should have been stripped of all committees. He is a worthless backstabbing traitor. He may as well call himself the senator from Israel. He does not represent the United State's best interests.

Obama is a better person than I am for letting Lieberman keep his seat.
I would kick him to the curb in a second flat!

Democrats, famous for caving, were consistent and caved again, this time pretending it is because they were interested in governance, not revenge.

The reality is that Democrats are weak and afraid of a fight.

My congratulations to those Democratic Senators who understood that weakness can't disguise itself as generosity and will be known for what it is.

As for those voting to keep Joe as Chair: Joe dishes it out, serves it up, and the Democrats eat. Today it just became a lot clearer what Senate Democrats eat--and, I'd guess, will be eating in the future.
