Breaking: Caroline Kennedy Will Seek HRC's Senate Seat

The New York Times is reporting that Caroline Kennedy will seek Hillary Clinton's NY Senate seat, despite grumbling from other Democratic officials that she has name recognition but no government experience. Kennedy has been calling state political officials to let them know of her intentions, the paper reports.

Gov. David Paterson will make the appointment. He was traveling today, however, and was not available for comment.

Others in the mix include: NY AG Andrew Cuomo (who was until recently married to Kennedy's cousin Kerry), Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, "a rising star in the Democratic party who represents an upstate district" and Tom Suozzi, Nassau County chief executive and a former candidate for governor.

Kennedy, a lawyer and Manhattan resident, has lived a largely private life. A graduate of Harvard University and Columbia Law School, she is an author and mother of three who has largely worked in the private sphere, as president of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation and a member of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award Committee. She is a director of the Commission on Presidential Debates, and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and serves as Honorary Chairman of the American Ballet Theatre.

Here we go again. The entitled will get the title, and get the job. The two party system is a corrupt horrible system. Just because the heir to the throne, wants the throne she will get it, and nobody will oppose it.

This is change? Sounds like the "same ole, same ole" to me. The Kennedy's have been around forever and certainly not a family that is without it's skeletons in the closet. Money buys alot and it looks like NY's senate seat is for sale; if not for actual cash, then for the legacy of a dysfunctional family. If anyone had doubts about Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin's qualifications, then anyone with even a small amount of gray matter in their cranium would doubt the political qualifications of Caroline Kennedy. She (if appointed) will be nothing more than a puppet of her uncle Ted and thus NY will become a province of Mass. Good Luck, NY'ers. At least Hillary was her own woman.

She has no personal scandle and being a graduate from Harvard is no dummy. She would qualify better than Palin did for VP. Come on. Hillary wasn't on her own. She was first lady remember? Get off of it.

Ah, so since she decided this year she likes politics - she figures she should be a US senator. Oh, and her last name is Kennedy - so obviously she is qualified besides her overall experience being in various organization's chairmen because - she is a Kennedy.

It doesn't matter that Hillary was First Lady. Hillary has a long record of accomplishments beginning with her job as a staff lawyer on the Nixon Impeachment Committee when she was only twenty-six years old. She continued to practice law and in the 80s she was named one of the top 100 female lawyers in America. She was elected to the Senate twice and received 18 million votes in the Democratic primary. She has earned everything she has.

What has Caroline accomplished that would qualify her to be a US Senator? Making a few speeches for Obama? If her last name weren't Kennedy, she wouldn't be under consideration at all. What message does this send to all of the elected officials in New York who don't stand a chance no matter how hard they work?

This must be her prize for endorsing Obama, a short cut to the Senate. No qualifications nor experience necessary. Name and money are all you need. Change you can expect.

Caroline Kennedy is well educaded, Harvard etc. and she seems to be quite intellegent. And most important I think she is honest. '' She won't rob us blind and bancrupt this country like the Bush Administration did. She should get the Senate seat. She will gain some good expiriance and may become our president one day.

I find this OFFENSIVE. IN THE EXTREME.

What, precisely, has Caroline Schlossberg done to qualify her for the Senate? Why should she get the nod as an appointee, and consequently, a leg up running for the post in the next election.

I've been a Democrat for forty years. I looked up to JFK. I find her pandering to the governor in an attempt to get the job DISGUSTING, and is just one more PUSH to shove me out of the party.

I have nothing against her as a person, I simply think she is NOT QUALIFIED. NOT FRIKIN QUALIFIED.

I agree with the guy who said hey, J-Lo has "name recognition" too. It doesn't make her any more qualified.

You want a Kennedy in the job? Give it to RFK Junior--at least he's been working on behalf of the nation AND the citizens of NY in PUBLIC SERVICE for many years....not "dabbling" and lunching and picking and choosing what she wants to involve herself in.

Rachel--You're an idiot to say that Caroline Kennedy is more qualified than Palin. I was not a Palin fan, but I think being a governor, former energy secretary for the largest energy producing state, makes her a hell of a lot more qualified than Caroline Kennedy.

It is unmitigated audacity and sense of entitlement that she would ask to be APPOINTED to the Senate when she has NEVER even run for public office. There is nothing to illustrate that she would be the choice of the people, represent the people of NY, etc. She has CO-authored two books and lived off her family name, connections, and legacy. I will be very happy to consider her once she has campaigned and undergone the pressures and scrutiny that a political campaign requires. As for the argument about being a graduate of Harvard...are you people serious? A Harvard education does not make one smart or intelligent. We can find a long list of people who have attended Ivy League colleges on the strength of their family name and legacies. We can begin with George W. Bush, an alumnus of Yale and Harvard.

I have always like Caroline Kennedy, but I must say that this attempt to by-pass the political system and just "ease" into a SENATE seat is absolutely astounding and arrogant. What the HELL kind of national experience does she have other than a bunch of cousins and an uncle who are still in politics. Because my Dad was a pilot, should I be allowed to fly a passenger jet?

She has pedigree. Unlike that uncouth Sarah Palin woman. Actually making something of yourself and not relying on your family name...what a stupid hick.

She has lived her entire life as an American icon not by her choice responsibly in a world where many of the same means easily may not have done the same for a host of reasons. She is remarkable and just in time. There has never been a bad word needed to be said of her. She is educated and has has kept herself well. There is no argument that could be won against her that would be of any sound reason. She is a voice from a generation that needs its best now. If name recognition ever did have to have any recognition, which it will- she really is entitled as she lived out the ultimate sacrifice. She certainly does not need the power or fame as She has passed that test with honors.

It depends how much the NY Dems are willing to subordinate themselves to Brand. If you've been a good pol working your way up the food chain it'd be tough to take, I would think.

But then again, maybe certain arrangements could be made so the non-chosen ones would feel a little better. Consolation prizes so to speak.
