Dropping The Ball

Three weeks away from leaving office, Pres. Bush offers his final New Year's Eve wishes:

"As my time in office comes to a close, I thank the American people for trusting me with the honor of serving our great country. It has been a tremendous privilege, and together we have accomplished a great deal. Among other things, we have advanced the cause of human freedom; we have strengthened our military and our Nation's security; we have empowered parents to demand educational excellence for their children; and we have revolutionized the fight against poverty, corruption, and the scourge of disease around the world."

Bush plans to have a quiet evening with friends on his ranch in Crawford, TX. (Full statement after the jump.)

"New Year's Day is an opportunity to remember the events of the past and look forward with hope to the year ahead.

This New Year is an exciting time for our country, as the peaceful transfer of power is one of the hallmarks of a true democracy. We are preparing to welcome a new President into office, and we celebrate in a spirit of unity: one Nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.

As my time in office comes to a close, I thank the American people for trusting me with the honor of serving our great country. It has been a tremendous privilege, and together we have accomplished a great deal. Among other things, we have advanced the cause of human freedom; we have strengthened our military and our Nation's security; we have empowered parents to demand educational excellence for their children; and we have revolutionized the fight against poverty, corruption, and the scourge of disease around the world.

Earlier this year, I promised that I would sprint to the finish of my time as President. We are working hard to keep that promise. Despite the challenges we face, nothing encourages me more than the character of the American people, whose acts of courage and service sustain our free society and make this the greatest country on Earth.

Laura and I send our best wishes for a happy New Year. May God bless you, and may God continue to bless America."

He is either delusional, living in a bubble or straight out lying. I think it is the latter. He has done none of the things he mentions here and quite the contrary. I am so glad he is gone. These last eight years have been a nightmare of gargantuan proportions. On with the new and hope in a wonderful new strong, intelligent leader who will have to clean up the messes of the bushies. I have heard that Laura is divorcing george. This first lady did. You must read The President's Wife. www.presidentswife.com

I am sorry I take issue with your comments. It is clearly obvious which political affiliation you are. Here is your quote: "On with the new and hope in a wonderful new strong, intelligent leader who will have to clean up the messes of the bushies."

And we know this because of Barack Obama's vast experiences in all the issues we face today? C'mon let's not all jump on the bash Bush bandwagon.

#1 - Obama may be intelligent and may inspire confidence but one major thing he lacks is experience. He was inexperienced as a senator and quite franly the only reason he won is that people were so aggravated with Bush at the end and wanted a change. Change for the sake of changing is not always the right thing. Let's not forget that the House and Senate were and still are controlled by the democratic majority. Many of these issues are the fault of the demoratic majority and the laws enacted by the last congress.

#2 - The #1 isuse we face today is the current financial crisis. But please do not blame this one on Bush as this was actually started 10 years ago when then President Clinton signed into law the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which deregulated the banking industry. This is the cause of the credit collapse and the global financial burdens the world faces today.

#3 How many terrorist attacks have been carried out on U.S. soil since Bush declared war on terrorism? Zero. It may not be a popular opinion today but it was definitely the right thing to do. Do you think the Middle Eastern countries are just going to change their philosophies because we now have Obama in office? They still want to kill each and every one of us because we do not believe in their religion and outlandish practices of discrimination against women and those who do not follow their strict laws.

Obama is going to fail on many of his campaign promises because they are simply unattainable in our country. Media overload and the "me first generation" that is now blossoming into our workforce will make that impossible. Coupled with the fact that there are too many special interests groups and the obsence amount of bipartisan bickering is what is leading to the downfall of our country not George Bush. Sometimes I feel that our counrty has taken democracy too far

I would also like to say that while Bush is not popular today that will most likely change once history has time to see how things turn out in the Middle East. Iraq, Afghanistan and our commitment to worldwide democracy will be his legacy. Today's financial crisis you can blame on the Clinton's

Good day to you Hannah. We must all stand behind Barack Obama or we will surely have many more issues than we do today.

"...last eight years have been a nightmare..."? Talk about overkill, Hannah. Perhaps you are the delusional one. To paint Bush as you have is ludicrous. You are clearly a Bush-hater. Then to say that the new regime is going to "clean up the messes" is not on presumptuous but also totally unfounded at this point. President-elect Obama may be a God-send but that is yet to be proven, yet to be seen. You would be advised not to put the cart before the horse.

I guess this is where the right wing idea logs hang out. You are pitiful supporting the bush crime machine.

Hannah,

The Bush crime machine? Come on! I have a very liberal friend in San Francisco who also began to do this Bush bashing thing a few years back. To say Bush lied and committed blantant crimes is incredibly naive and simply jumping on a liberal bandwagon that has no basis in fact. As I stated to my friend, If you're honest with yourself, you will agree that president Bush is a good man. He's not a liar. And he's not a criminal. Has he been the best president we've ever had? No. Did he employ too many yes men in his administrative circle? Sure. After my friend got a grip on his liberal emotional sensationalism, he agreed with me. Now, that being said, I'm glad Barack Obama is our President elect. I hope and pray that he can make good on 30 percent of his campaign promises. He faces an incredibly difficult challenge and a very fickle American public. He will have very blind followers and very hard-hearted enemies (similar to what you seem to be to Bush). Soften your heart. Let Bush go peacefully and honorably. It's the right (and I hope the Left) thing to do.
God Bless America and God Bless you Hannah!

Hannah, Perhaps you would like to join Obama's Civilian Army. You seem militant to me. Then you can harrass Republicans and Conservatives to your hearts content. Maybe you can get some of the outrage out of your system. Actually, I like Bush, I voted for him twice and have no regets.
I am ashamed to say I voted to Slick Willie twice.

Sorry about the double blogs, still getting used to this link.

Hannah is spot-on, and there's nothing wrong with saying Obama will clean up after the Bush mess. He must or America will devolve into a two-bit third-rate country, if we're not there already.
George W. Bush has single-handedly ruined our country and I feel extra disgust for the people
who rationalize his incompetence and lies even more than Bush himself.
