Sessions: GOP Insurgency "May Be Required"

Frustrated by a lack of bipartisan outreach from House Democratic leaders, Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said House Republicans -- who voted unanimously last week against the economic plan pushed by President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi -- will pitch a "positive, loyal opposition" to the proposal. The group, he added, should also "understand insurgency" in implementing efforts to offer alternatives.

"Insurgency, we understand perhaps a little bit more because of the Taliban," Sessions said during a meeting yesterday with Hotline editors. "And that is that they went about systematically understanding how to disrupt and change a person's entire processes. And these Taliban -- I'm not trying to say the Republican Party is the Taliban. No, that's not what we're saying. I'm saying an example of how you go about [sic] is to change a person from their messaging to their operations to their frontline message. And we need to understand that insurgency may be required when the other side, the House leadership, does not follow the same commands, which we entered the game with."

That agreement, as Sessions described it, involved a promise from Pelosi to preside over an "open, honest, ethical Congress." Obama, Sessions added, has pledged to diminish the political rhetoric in Washington and work in a bipartisan fashion.

"If they do not give us those options or opportunities then we will then become insurgency of a nature to where we do those things that are necessary to making sure the American public knows what we think the correct answer is," Sessions said during the 60-minute interview. "So we either work together, or we're going to find a way to get our message out."

When pressed to clarify, Sessions said he was not comparing the House Republican caucus to the Taliban, the Muslim fundamentalist group.

"I simply said one can see that there's a model out there for insurgency," Sessions said before being interrupted by an aide. The staffer said Sessions was trying to convey that the Republicans need to start thinking about how to act strategically from their perch in the minority.

Sessions' answer followed a question about the most effective strategy for Republicans in the lead up to the 2010 midterms. A Hotline editor asked if Republicans would have more leverage on the campaign trail by supporting the new president or posing, as Sessions suggested, as a "loyal opposition" working to hold back an onslaught of liberal Democratic policies.

Sessions and his staff said Democrats have shoved the bill through Congress without hearings or mark-ups, and they blamed Pelosi, not Obama, who has met with them, for the Republicans' unwillingness to back the economic stimulus bill.

"I think insurgency is a mindset and an attitude that we're going to have to search for and find ways to get our message out and to be prepared to see things for what they are, rather than trying to do something about them," Sessions said. "I think what's happened is that the line was drawn in the sand" by Pelosi.

Sessions said the GOP's 178 members stand by their votes against the bill.

"I don't think any one of our members today feels like they would take back that vote," he said. "... There's no remorse."

Asked to assess the political landscape for the midterms, Sessions suggested that the NRCC will back the best candidates in each district -- as opposed to targeting support to specific contests, as the group has done previously. He noted that Democrats hold seats in 83 districts that President Bush won in 2000 or 2004, showing that the GOP has opportunities, despite the party's losses in the last two cycles.

Sessions said he believes Republicans can take back the House.

"We believe our job is to aim to win the majority," Sessions said. "I've never aimed to come in second place."

First the GOP goes all hells bells and decides to pour fuel on the flame of the already expanding Taliban and Al Qaeda movement by going to war. It is not as if previous presidents also went after those people who openly attacked our Foreign Service members and those at home. Reagan, Bush and Clinton all had CIA programs and military programs aimed at stopping these movements from spreading and causing severe harm to innocent civilians. But Mr. Sessions is right the GOP does have to act like insurgents and that is exactly what we as Americans should call the GOP efforts to stall and delay the progress that America need right now. Doing the same thing over and over again is called insanity, so it does not take a genius to recognize the failed policies of the GOP. They have failed Americans on healthcare, they have failed Americans on Immigration reform, and they have failed Americans proper regulating our financial sector through deregulation (look up Phil Gramm's involvement in the repeal of the Glass-Steagal act of 1933). Yeah you can say this happened during Clinton's tenure as POTUS, but as our current times show, Congress is an equal branch of our government. From 1994-2006 the GOP had control of both houses and it is squarely on those members of congress that our current situation seems to be so dire.

Please call your Congressmen and women and let them now your feelings about America and the stimulus bill. If you think it is a bad bill that is fine but be certain there is no economist on either side of the partisan divide who is advocating doing nothing. They all support a stimulus; therefore no matter whether everything you or I might want to be in there, the over-arching concern seems to be one of inaction in and of itself. This should be called a job's bill but who am I to split hairs.

Spoken like a true redneck streaker from Texas!

The Republican party has ceased to be any sort of rational political body with a coherent philosophy. They have become nothing short of a threat to this country on multiple fronts, from their repressive theocratic impulses and aggressive militaristic behaviors to their articulated desire to destroy our government by bankrupting it through cutting off taxes.
It is imperative upon the citizens of our country that we bombard our representatives with phone calls and e-mails reminding them that this dangerous and destructive political strain has been rejected outright by the people of this country, resulting in Democratic landslides in the last two elections. We have seen what the Republicans have to offer; Taliban is a pretty good comparison, Senator Sessions.

His comments lead me to question his very sanity! What a partisan sicko. Just glad I live in his district in Texas so I can vote him and his Taliban/Al Qaeda tactics out of office!!!

stop crying over spilled milk and put your country 1st!! Ohhhh....Pelosi hurt my feelings!! wahwahwahwah - crying like a baby...tough'n up and think about the people who you are representing. Isn't that the whole reason why you got the job as a senator??? To speak for the people??? DO YOUR JOB!!!

The GOP has lost their collective minds. I hope they get the stimulus to pass without a single R and that is works wonders and this party is sunk for all of eternity. The GOP sux!

well that was a smart soundbite. "gop running a taliban-like insurgency against administration" it practically writes itself.

One for reason for giving Texas back to Mexico. The only reason we annexed it was to expand slavery and we don't have that anymore.

How ignorant. The entire process of formulating bills is to discuss the initial proposal and simply make revisions. They did not have to make such a big, pompous deal out of it. Remove those things that are obviously not stimulative and move on. It is rare that a bill passes exactly as it is initially proposed. They are just hell bent on posturing and exerting power, continuing the presidential campaign that they lost, pushing the same old failing ideas, because they cannot accept defeat. This is what they did with the last Democrat President. They do not know how to govern. Vote him out; we in Texas need to clean house across the state and it will take hard work since the Republican state house redistricted and turned us red. It was an ugly, crooked tactic and we need to fix it.

The party of Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin lives on. How unfortunate for this country...

They seem to hate America as much as the Taliban so the comparison seems apt.

After all, both the GOP and the Taliban are hoping for and cheering on the demise of America.

I'd change partries, but then how could I change my Party back? I was left behind. The crazies are all in charge, singing Rush's crazy rantings like a mantra. Do thay really want a one party system? They are working to make themselves as relevent as the many other third parties. Small minded wack jobs who are more worried about what we do in our own homes than in making sure we have jobs to pay for our homes. Kick the bums out. I did not give most of my 20's protecting America so some fanatics, like the GOP and Taliban, can destroy my beloved USA.

What a shame, Rep Sessions! Are you suggesting that Alqaeda is bombing, killing, and throat-cutting because the US has failed to listen to them? That's the most unpatriotic and dumbest stupidity i ever heard from the bunch of silly other whinings of the GOP. While the AMerican people is sick and weaken by the ailing economy, what you guys do is think ideologically, and think about the next election. I am so disgusted. How can you ever give credit to AlQaeda who killed so many innocent Amercians and who use insurgencey to keep jeopardizing the lives of millions of other innocent people, and American interests. Shame on you. If I were you, the next smart thing I would would be to Resign. But as a redneck, you don't get it. But be advised that you're being voted out at midterm. The people wants solutions, and pays you and other good-for-nothing representatives and senators to find these solutions. And what you do is enjoy your salry and practice ideology, and worse, be the sycophant and champion of AlQaeda. Do you even know what AlQaeda is, Reddy?

I KNEW the Republicans were the American Taliban. It's nice to see them finally admit it. They hate America and Americans. They just want to control everything and enslave women, minorities, and poor people.

I can't really hear what Sessions is saying, because all I see is his unfortunate nose job. Rep. Session -- which 16 year-old girl did your plastic surgeon use as a model for your current proboscis?

I think Republicans have a better chance of being successful once they take their thumbs out of their mouths.
I have never seen such a bunch of highly paid cry babies. What a waste of taxpayers money!

I'm sick and tired of Republican goofballs embarassing Texas. We are not all rednecks, some maybe. :) Every time one of these idiots opens their mouths, I'm compelled to donate more money to the Democratic party. Out with you, Republicans, one and all!

I am ashamed of the Republican Party. This dill weed is not addressing the REAL issues facing this country. He just wants to whine about not being power. They has the power and they stuck it to the American people and look at the shape they left us in. Now the Democrats have to clean up their mess. It's like chasing after a litter of puppies....and now they want to come after the Dems like the Taliban? Nice. More stupidity.
As a Republican? I am ashamed and emailed Senators Inholf & Colburn today to express my anger. EVERYONE should do the same with their Senators.

Wow! I don't really need to add anything, everyone has already summed things up beautifully. I thought I was in the Matrix the past few weeks, good to know I am anchored in reality and the Republicans really are insane. Thanks for the validation, folks!

The GOP is frustrated, that the Democrats were put in charge by the voters. So, Senator Sessions when the GOP has something to offer other than the same agenda of the last 8 years, quit your whining and threats. Get with the program or take a hike.

Why don't you Democrats simply have all opposition banned? Thats what you want anyway...a one party system.

TALIBAN??? As a role model/mentors??? End result = we/U.S. live in bombed-out caves, enslave the public, govern through FORCE with NO public vote or say. Perhaps sessions needs a good waterboarding, or he can go live with taliban elsewhere. AMERICA the FREE!, VOTE NO! TO INSURGENTS/CONFEDERATES!!! Is'nt that TREASON??? And CONSPIRACY when more than one is involved??? ENOUGH!!! TIME FOR CHANGE!!! CHANGE SESSIONS!!!

Mealer Economic Energy Plan

This plan was completed several years ago to introduce a replacement tax for fossil fuel taxes that would have been lost when Mealer American Motors Corporation introduced a certain automobile...

This automobile is different from others and very special. Once our non-fossil fuel , non-EV (Electric Vehicle) which will also power a home when it is not being driven down the road, is sold, the government fuel taxes would soon disappear.

This means, the coal power companies taxes, the nuclear power companies taxes, the taxes from hydro-electric power sources would eventually be done away with. The government would be in trouble. Today.. The government is already in trouble, but worst yet... The citizens of the nations with struggling economies are in worst trouble.

The following “brief” explains these new tax sources...

1.USA manufacturing and new USA manufacturing businesses PLUS the millions of jobs that must exist to feed the need of the manufacturing sector... The same jobs that grew this country and have since been replaced by retail salespeople and Walmart employees selling Made in China products.

A. The Mealer 3R Economic Energy Plan entails paid training by utilizing the hundreds of thousands of stores fronts that sit vacant throughout America. Many of these training centers are old, vacant Walmart stores and stores put out of business by the retail China import giant. The products made during training are resold in a host of retail stores throughout the nation and throughout the world...

B. These stores can be retrofitted and create immediate construction based jobs for those in the business and used for re-training America while the building/property owners receive huge tax breaks (through existing laws) for either donating or deferring lease payments until the 3R schools are producing a steady cash flow or until the following takes place...

2.As these smaller and solvent USA manufacturing companies come into existence, the newly schooled entrepreneurs who follow up with business law courses (community college works fine here) unless they feel confident or hire outside help, will go on and gather several other new small mfg companies and form them into one group to sell as a commodity and regulated as such. The market is huge!

This is within the scope of commodities exchange and we would expect some out of work Wall Street types to hop on board since they aren't doing anything as it is... Could it be any easier to supply funds for any moments of struggling new USA MFG businesses than to group them together like this?

Think about it... say.. Five to Ten medium sized US businesses who manufacture several different items for resale, all being collected together as one Trade Commodity. As these Commodities form, they are placed on the bidding block and portions of their value is
returned back into the individual businesses to keep them operating smoothly (rather than go to fund one owner, the funds are spread as loose-shareholder funds). American ingenuity and the desire to succeed will work out the products, and there are thousands to choose from. The jobs from the traders and marketers and local government alone will create a small new US economy in itself. This is something that can be done in All Free Nations.

3.New jobs that are unrelated to these new USA MFG businesses will thrive as the new cash flow from these students and employees is spent to purchase normal everyday products and services. The ratio to cover one purchaser average 3 to 1, so for every new USA MFG position, the outside jobs that will be created are three per each industry. Don't believe me? Compare this to Detroit as the automaker jobs move away due to the Big Three mfg overseas and in Mexico. Compare this to the increase in jobs when the foreign automakers move into non union states. The cities and local economies thrive!

4.More people working in a community means more government resources and jobs will be needed to serve the public.

This Mealer Economic Energy Plan is really very simple and may be implemented today with immediate economic benefits, jobs and that thing call hope for the future.. But this is real and certain hope that ends up creating money rather than costing it. No government needed, except to stay out of the way.
This is the only viable “renewable energy business plan” and by far the only viable “economic stimulus plan” that can possibly work.

All that it comes down to is I believe people are really, really going to be voerwhelmingly surpised with just what they actually get out of this last election

what an honest moment for this cowboy

Wow..and the Republicans are the ones that refuse to see both points of view? Seems you Democrats need a lesson in hipocrasy. Basically what the guy is saying is that the Republican party needs to make sure that everyone in the country understands what Democrats are doing. They are going to drive us into a deeper hole with this stimulus bill. 4 million jobs created or saved? So basically, if only 4 million people are working next year, it was a success??? I'm sorry, but they need to go back and review what started this in the first place. Mortgages to people that really couldn't afford their homes. The liberal left and their special interests groups are the ones that got it changed so that it was easier for people to get loans, usually using the race card. Those people went out and bought a house that they obviously couldn't afford...this caused a massive credit crunch that has been felt around the world. So before you go off blaming the GOP for the worlds problems, take a look at your own party platform. The government shouldn't have to support everyone, and that is what the Liberal Left (read communists) would have you do.

The Typical Republican is an angry white male or female; an exclusive club only for greedly, lying, thiefing, fornicators of the facts and the truth. The are against abortions and do not fund adoptions or foster homes. They are pro-life and Kill Texans on death roll even if innocent. The Governor and all his Republicans Mob are against taxes but spend tax payer monies on private firms even if it is not cost effective. They are feathering their nests with tax payer monies. The expense is neither cost affective and the quality of service they provided inferior. They cannot be audited and are neither responsible or accountable. The RedNecks are The US Taliban and I hope they are wire tapped in order to get to the truth and not the typical spin of misrepresentations, and diversion while changing the logic as it suits them! The Republican party is a criminal element and needs to be deal with as such. I am a Texan and the REDNECKS of Texas are Talban. They are for Democracy if they are in power otherwise they are subversives intend on detroying people of Color. They are Christian Zionists and like the Zionist Jews it is an exlusive club and they have their own rules and are accountable to no one. Anarchist and REpublicans are one and the same!!!

Please tell me there's audio to be posted of this interview.

Why doesn't obama come and just say he wants the US to be communists? Nationalize this and nationalize that. You have to pay him less but her more. Where does it stop? I thought it was patriotic to pay taxes? Didn't everyone need skin in the game. 3 and probably more we don't know about didn't pay their taxes. I guess it's one set of rules for Obama and his staff and Democrats and another for whoever opposes them. Those of you who voted for him will owe everyone an apology when he screws everything up. Spending was out of control and Bush got bashed and now its okay to spend our way into death like Iceland did because our lord and savior is in the. Good luck people when your in a soup line because he has taken the profit out of doing buisness here. Everyone thinks that people who own buisnesses make millions a year. It's always a little more take here and there from buisness and soon there is no profit. Do you wanna work for free. You democrats want nothing more than handouts and don't wanna work to get. It cam Barack Hussien Obama's lips " Redistribution"

Huh? What did he say?

Obama said he wanted " Redistribution" of the wealth. Sorry for the typos I was working on something else at the same time. I for one have my own small buisness and if I am forced to pay health care or get insurance I have to go out. I am just starting out and he will god to honest put me out of buisness. 3 of Obama's picks had tax troubles, but its patriotic to pay taxes and we need skin in the game. Who really believes if Limbaugh or somebody made a " mistake " on their taxes that it would be forgiven so easily. It shows the weak spine double standard arrogance of Obama.

ProudRepublican, it's idiots like you who are the real enemies of this country. All the damage to this great nation of ours took place during the last 8 years of GOP control. And it's HYPOCRISY, you illiterate redneck.

Rant all you want. This bill is a porker and will destroy what is left of the economy. And you on the left will be blamed for it.

I'm curious- the GOP opposes this plan, so what is THEIR plan?
In a Republican controlled congress, what would they, ideally like to see passed? It is very easy to take potshots at an unpopular (and uncertain) fix. But its harder to come up with a feasible solution. And lets face it folks, this country needs fixin'! So...what IS the answer? Do nothing? A selective stimulus that goes out to only 10 "key player" businesses? What?

I AM 62 YEARS OLD AND NEVER REALLY GOT INTO POLOTICS, BUT THIS SEEMS TO BE THE TIME TO INDULGE. THE GOP HAS AND ALWAYS WILL DO THE THINGS THAT THEY THINK WILL TURN THE PEOPLE IN THIER FAVOR. ITS NOT ABOUT PARTIES NOW ITS ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE HERE. WHO IS TO BLALLME IS NOT THE CRY ITS WHAT WE NEED TO DO. YOU FOLLOWED MR BUSH IN GIVING AWAY BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO PRIVATE BUSINESS WHO CHEATED OR LIED TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC WITHOUT A WHISPER, THE AMERICAN PEOPLES MONEY AND YOU STILL CAN REACH OUT AND SAY YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING FOR ME AND THE COUNTRY, WHEN YOU GOJ HOME TO YOUR FAMILY AND I GO HOME TO THE SHELTER, AND THE FOOD BANK, AND THE TRIFT STORE FOR MY CHILDRENS COATS,, PLEASE TELL ME THAT THIS WHAT YOU ARE FIGHTING FOR. I WISH I COULD HAVE A MARTINI OR JUST A BEER BUT IT WOULD MEAN SLEEEPING ON THE STREET AAGAIN, GEE I FEEL GOOD I AM ONLY 62 SO I DON'T HAVE MANY YEARS LEFT TO DO THESE AWFUL THINGS THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT.

LEO J. BAKER DENVER

The Democrats run congress and the White House. The Democrat's unability to get their way says more about the Democrats than the Republicans. The real reason the stimulus plan is being held up is because of the 37% public approval rating for the plan. The Democrats don't want to be the only ones involved with this mess because they don't have the backbone of putting their jobs on the line.

GOP = DOMESTIC TERRORISTS.
What will they stop at>?
Why do they hate the American People?
They are holding us down!
Mr. Sessions should be FBI investigated for terrorism along with the rest of the GOP.
Bush/Cheney and the 1994-2006 GOP led Congress:
Hurt our People.
Hurt our Families.
Hurt our Country!
God forgive me for voting for them. Never again.

This comment board is truly amusing and entertaining to read. All you sad, pathetic progressives, with your bloated welfare state, scam government-backed housing and student loan insurance programs, and radical environmentalism, have gotten exactly what you want--A one party state (and destruction of the economy and a flight of high paying producing jobs to foreign countries). There is no more opposition, there is no more bogeyman to point your fingers at. This ****ing ship is sinking, and your still trying to find evil right wing targets hiding in the shadows to blame, Rush Limbaugh, etc., WAKE UP! Welfare state politicians, radical environmentalists, state-sponsored ponzi schemes far worse than anything Madoff could concoct (Social security and Mediscam and Mediscare, Unemployment insurance), have literally trashed this country and the western world as a whole (yes, there are actually european countries that take these things further than this country). Yet comically, your in a hole of **** and you want to keep digging deeper with the shovel (more government regulation and taxation, and spending)--get a clue. Like a previous commentor, I am a small business person--I find it amusing government and progressives are so concerned about unemployment and yet make it virtually impossible for me to hire anyone--thank god I am a one man outfit. All I can say is, good luck as these people keep getting more regs and taxes have fun at the food bank, hope your irrational fear of right-wingers-plotting- against-you-and hiding-in-the-closet-belief system comfort you then. I'm making mine and getting the **** out of dodge--it's off to the Caymans or Switzerland for me--screw this place, I'll go somewhere where the country and its population appreciates those that work and produce--go peck at the leavings from the supermarket like the French.

The goal of the GOP is to kill the Government, they wanted to drive up the debt so high that social programs will be unaffordable. They now argue against more debt when they did everything to drive debt up, to say they are hypocrites does a disservice to the truth, they are evil. Republican know alot about disservice to the truth, they don't know what truth is, and they don't care. It will take 20 years to repair the damage they have done.

It's amazing how the rhetoric still flies. A nation divided will fall. Facts are twisted, slanted and abused. The bottom line is Obama can NOT change Washington politics as usual. When we went off of the gold standard inflation went out of control. After WWII all Americans wanted was the good life. Easy credit gave it to them. The American Dream. A house, a family, and a car. Social security for old age was a reality. Businesses shut down by the hundreds during the 70's and 80's as our society changed from manufacturing to service oriented. Credit finally failed during Carters reign` Reagon got it going again, but all credit based economies must fail eventually when there is no production based industries. It finally happened during Bush 1, Clinton, and Bush 2's reigns. There is no vision within Washington DC from either party. There are so many good ideas out there that will never bear fruit because of lack of funding. Read Popular Science and learn about all of the potential advances that the USA could be leading the world in Science and Technology. Manufacturing jobs could be created in almost any field but for lack of funding...and over regulation. Spend the money on these type of industries and put people back to work and you won't need government welfare or tax breaks. Think about that instead of playing the blame game.

Did the Retalibangelicals just declare a HOLY WAR AGAINST THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA???

DID THEY?

I am sorely tempted to take it to them...

REPUBLICANS F U C K I N G W R E C K E D AMERICA, AND NOW THEY ARE DECLARING A HOLY WAR AGAINST IT???

If it's war they want...

Remember Georgie said "you are either with us or against us". That was not taken by most Americans to include Americans, but that is exactly who POS Bush was talking to. The rednecks in this country already act like the taliban. It was so good to see an american taliban leader get up and admit that they will use whatever means necessary to destroy the US as we know it.
If the repugnicants can't join in the fight to save our country, every one of them needs to be shot.

Pray tell, what more can the House neocon nutjoober GOP members do? They have already shot their wad by voting 100% against the bill. Yet, despite that opposition, the bill passed. The House GOP members have only succeeded in making themselves and their rightwing nutjob politics just more irrelevant. The GOP House members have just achieved alienating the Dems who now control the House.

to Leo Baker above

Your the exact cause of this if I take what you said above factually. You have to go to the shelter and the food bank, but you have internet??????? retard. I and many other WORKING and TAX PAYING Americans are feeding your ass so you can get the internet. Do you have dish? lol

Your Confederate Taliban Insurgency: will fail, Republicans

Sessions said he believes Republicans can take back the House.
"We believe our job is to aim to win the majority," Sessions said.
Mat 23:15
"Woe to you, (Republicans) scribes and Pharisees;
hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte;
and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.

Senator Sessions, you anti-American Confederate Insurgent - by your own words - hey Confederate fellow fools lets all be insurgents. Your insurgency will fail, the Union will destroy you, I pray that the the United States of America will be less forgiving in its second victory over the insurgent Confederates.

Republicans like the Taliban? Whomever would give the American people THAT idea? If the shoe fits, Cinderella, wear it!

Pick your party poison carefully, America, so it doesn't choke you when you least expect it. Remember, you get what you pay for, and with Congress and the stupid 2 party system, it looks like more of the same old, same old from here.

The Republican Minority leader and the Democrat Majority leader are in a pissing contest while the rest of the Republicans stand around with their thumbs in their noses, screaming for tax breaks for their oil buddies and Wall Street skunks.

Aren't they supposed to be passing bills to get the new president to sign them? Oh, wait, they're too busy FIGHTING to get the job done? What is this, HIGH SCHOOL??

Good luck, Mr. President, in dealing with these goons. I don't envy him the job of trying to whip these losers into shape.

Meanwhile, we all lose our jobs, our homes, and more states crumble under the economic collapse. You'd just better HOPE it's not your state.

What a way to go out, America. No wonder Europeans think we're the laughingstock of the planet.

Iran doesn't have to do a damned thing to us except sit and wait while we tear each other apart from the inside out. And I wonder why we call these goons "leaders."

Yep, the Taliban is already here. Bend over and take another one in the shorts. Maybe it won't be too late and we can vote the morons out of office next election cycle... if we still have addresses to register to vote, that is...

"Who is the more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows him?" -Ben Kenobi

They've gone square around the bend. The only thing that they've learned from the past two election cycles is that they are "Not Conservative Enough" to hear them tell it.

Are we ready to either just ignore then in hope that they relent and go away, or are the people going to turn them out in the off-year election and give the Democrats the keys to city?

If this were not so important, it might be fun to watch. They are quite insane as a group.

I forsee the formation of a new self-help group. Republicans Anonymous.

The country will be full of Recovering Republicans, they will need some place to go.

We should give them our full sympathy and support.

An insurgency.
Taliban-like tactics.

That is the strategy of a bankrupt ideology.
If you can't get it through the process, disrupt and destroy the process.

I think the Republican Party, led by its radio talkshow leaders. has gone anti-American.

You folks are the most uninformed group by far. That's how the Democrats govern - keep you guys in the dark, dump lots of sh-t on your heads and you all behave like they want you too.

Have you not been paying attention to what is in the House verison of the Stimulus Bill - Republicans are not disagreeing that the Country needs this Stimulus, they are disagreeing with the HUGH amounts of spending that Democrats have "tagged" onto the bill that do NOT generate any jobs or improve the Credit/Housing sector. And guess what - YOU as a taxpayer are paying for all the frills. Your paying for Family Planning Services in Mexico - your paying for New Grass on the National Mall in DC - your paying for the New Swimming Pool in AK

And check your history TJ "This is what they did with the last Democrat President" - it was the Democrat House and Senete, not the GOP that made life difficult for Carter.

In a couple of years when your paying taxes so high you can't afford to live yourself. When you can't find a job because there are none available for Americans - you remember, remember that you voted for "Change"

Everyone should oppose this joke of a stimulus package. I'm fully in favor of jumpstarting the economy, but sodding the national mall ain't gonna do it. This package is so full of pork, it smells like bacon. We fixed the economy from the Carter years by giving money to the little people (us). Not by having central planning bureaucrats re-distribute money Politburo-style.

This is not a good stimulus bill. It won't create any lasting jobs. The people who wrote this bill have no clue. No bill at all is better than this bill. It's not about Republican or Democrat, it's like what President Oboma say's, it's about getting it right.

Sounds like we need to start dropping JDAM's on every Republican Party HQ in the country. After all, they'd want us to have a strong counterinsurgency strategy.

Republicans.

They hate us for our freedoms.

Can we shoot them like they were the Taliban? This ass certainly deserves it.

PO, I think that the people who wrote this bill do have a clue. It's just that they don't agree with you on what's the best strategy. The stimulus bill may not create many lasting jobs -- directly, but that's part of the strategy. No one wants an expensive government program that is going to last indefinitely. The idea is to provide a stimulus to the entire economy so that the private sector will regain its bearings and be able to hire and provide long-term employment. The real question is whether or not it's too late to affect the course of the economy. The damage done by the negligence of the past may be so great that we're all just riding on the Titanic and she's gonna go down no matter what.

The Conservative Revolution failed. Time to get these crumbums out of the way and back to the McDonalds Drive Throughs they came from. Somewhere in Appalachia the bitterest, meanest WalMart greeters ever hatched from leathery eggs are wandering around Congress eating the free snacks. Send them home to their natural habitats!

The Republicans get throttled in the last election and wonder why no one will listen to their ideas - which constitute more Madoffian leaching of the middle class, coddling of oil and Wall Street, blank checks for the military and Blackwater and tax cuts for the big execs who offshore our jobs? If there's anything left to steal, the Republicans will make it easy for the theives.

Here's an idea, campers. Grow an idea, stop worshiping Reagan and stop living in your own talking points. The nation is dying and you're all busy chasing Rush Limbaugh's frisbee.

As far as the stimulus, it's like they say: Lead, follow or get out of the way. Fine with me if you follow #3.

Where have the Republicans been all these years ? It seems as though they just woke up from a century sleep!

My recommendation would be to bring back farming subsidies with part of a stimulus plan that could immediately relieve the weekly stress of every american who actually pays for their food by directly reducing the cost of perishable items. which would in turn guarantee an increase in tax revenue back to the govenment. Lets face it everyone how do you cover nearly every American's daily life a better way or faster. The cost for groceries has doubled or better in the last 2 Years !!! that is unacceptable. The other means of directly relieving the pressure of the higher cost of utilities constantly gouging 2,3 times or more per year. TVA ....the sludge pit collapse in East Tennessee is going to pass the buck onto the rate-payers even though they have been recording masive profits. Those in control of TVA should recognize that their organization or lack thereof is responsible for that mess, not the ratepayer....go on and dip into your cash reserves and fix it without penalizing the little guy for your bad judgement. There are many small ways to stimulate the economy directly..... Enhancing HUD could generate jobs by building new homes that could serve to educate some jobless Americans in building trades and bring much needed housing to OUR nations poorest. I dont have all the answers ... just the obvious ones that cry out when i hear of our elected officials claim to help us by giving rubbers out at health departments....if Americans are to regain confidence in the system the system has to be adjusted to meet the greater good of the people who continue to build this country, by the means that would generate jobs that reduces unemployment, lower the cost of living for the masses. SO ......our GDP goes down for 2-3 years...lets keep some of our tax dollars in country and fix our economy. We have been too long the "responsible nation for the world" we have shared so much for so long that the deficit was sure to come.If we can make life less expensive for those who need it the most our economy will improve, but it will take commitment and a relatively short time to show reversal, but a sustained commitment to ensure the growth and deserved prosperity of our country to come back and warm every citizens soul. Please add other ways to improve the daily struggle to this and lets give the officials our thoughts. thanks

A poor choice of metaphor.

Just asking:

Did the Taliban Republicans ever go to the President and the Dems to offer help writing the Stimulus bill? Hell no. That would have been the right thing to do for our once-Great America. They'd rather do what they're doing now, obstructing progress.

Interesting, isn't it, how these Republicans (and those who support them on blogs like this) have also forgotten all the destruction they've done to America and the World for the past eight years, albeit enbled by the Dems.

And I've watched several of them on TV programs recently (still) blaming President Clinton for this mess we call an economy.

Sad, too, that they have all conveniently forgotten the horrendous deficit spending on this illegal war on "terror) they shamelessly promote.

Yes, they are insane and do not have OUR Country's best interests at heart.

Insurgency, in the United States?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jefferson Davis, et al, already try that?

Brock:

No, Rod Blagojevich comparing his arrest with Pearl Harbor is a poor choice of metaphor.

Implying that your political party is going to emulate the Taliban is a colossally *stupid* choice of metaphor. I can only imagine how many of his staffers were wondering if they should just sucker-punch him and render him unconscious before he could do any more damage.

So a Republican leader is looking to the Taliban as an example of how to lead an effective opposition. How would that work, exactly? Planting car bombs in front of public schools? Throwing acid into the faces of women who walk around outdoors without a veil? Blowing up works of art because they were created by "infidels?"

That a leader of the GOP would suggest the Taliban as a role model for an American political party is truly bizarre, not to mention frightening. I wonder, aside from their "tactics" if there's anything else about the Taliban that Republican leaders find admirable.

See the cliff. See Pete Sessions at the edge of the cliff. Like a good Taliban, Jump Pete Jump. Maybe your fellow obstructionists will follow.

After reading Sessions comments and some of the wingtard comments on here,it's plain to see that one has to be an asshole to be a Republican.

The opinions here are interesting, I suppose...
Its hard to understand how so many, grew so quickly to feel that society and government owed them a living and were put in place to "take care" of their every need.
You know, they have a name for that and it starts with an "S"...

Oh yeah, your all missing Rep. Sessions point entirely... if it were the socialist in the minority do you think they would act any differently?

Little known fact: Rep. Sessions' full name is Pete Osama bin Laden Saddam Ahmadinejad Sessions.

The GOP has boxed themselves in over this stimulus bill. I will explain why... First I agree some items should be removed from bill. But here's the issue regarding the GOP. We (America) and the world are in a very bad recession. The worst I have seen since early 80's when I was just out of High School. The stimulus plan is not going to "save" the economy but it may do alot of good or maybe not. If economy does get better the stimulus will get some credit. Everyone wants us to get out of this recession right? If bill passes and we get out of recession then those who pushed for bill can say the stimulus helped even if just a little. So this is where the GOP is trapped. GOP is not going to get what they want in bill and by constantly ridiculing bill and playing hardball over bill. GOP is making it very clear they are against bill. If bill is a total failure then the American economy will get alot worse and who wants to see that happen? IF ecoonomy gets better the stimulus will get some credit. So in effect the GOP is fearful that bill will be successful and this country needs the bill to be succesful. Dems can say they created bill and it helped economy. Where will the GOP be in this argument. Finger will be pointed at them as trying to obstruct a bill to stave off a depression. This will be used in future political campaigns against the GOP. Do you see now how GOP is boxed in? By refusing to vote for bill they are disowning themselves from any credit if stimulus bill helps the economy. GOP is betting against $900 Bil infusion. That's alot of money to bet against... GOP is fearful the bill will do good and the DEMS will get the credit. GOP cannot hope bill fails for they will be hoping America fails. GOP is trapped!

Tim H: When the bill is finally passed, Obama will declare it a huge success for bipartisanship and will hail the contributions of those on the Republican side of the aisle. He will diminish them with praise. Romans 12:14-21.

If he wants the GOP to be an insurgency against the administration, they should be forced to carry the "terrorist" label.

Looks like a psychotic pissant to me. Does anybody have a clear take on its taxonomy?

Buffoon, you are aptly named.

This thread is about a Republican leader, one of the most important members of the GOP, saying the party should model itself on the Taliban, and use the Taliban as an example of how to conduct a successful "insurgency." The fact that GOP loyalists such as yourself would prefer to change the subject (to "socialism" and people assuming "the government owes them" and blah blah blah) than to call Sessions out on his bizarre analogy speaks volumes.

If a Democrat had said this you'd be howling, and Rush etc. would be on the airwaves 24-7 demanding an apology and/or immediate impeachment. Just goes to show how low the GOP has sunk.

This is so much more of the politico-crap that we DID NOT need. I watched in horror, as the American people swallowed, hook, line and sinker, the democratic rhetoric which took the country by storm.
We just continue to swap one failed ideology for the other. When will real change be offered to the country? I am sick of the same ole slogans of change, they are nothing more than empty promises.
When do we stop falling for it? The only thing that changes, are the names of those who benefit from the pork.
Trickle-down economics have never worksed....so why do you keep falling for it? You people are ridiculous. You voted for change that you never was never going to come. In 8 yrs, you will fall for it again and change the ruling party again because you will tire of the lies of this party too.
How about demanding some real change? You think you can possibly do that? I mean, I know it requires some intelligence and some actual thinking for yourselves. Give it some thought, if you can get off your lazy backsides and give it just the tinyiest of effort...you would suprise yourself.

Sessions is a member of the pathetic, out-of-touch, irrelevant group of people who refer to themselves as "Republicans", but who are, in reality, fascists. A fascist is, simply defined, a person who will do whatever is necessary to enforce his own set of beliefs. And the Republican Fascists/Taliban, having been recently sidelined, will do whatever it takes to regain CONTROL. They are not interested in the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights, or helping America and everyday Americans. They are interested solely in one thing, and that is CONTROL. They are crazy.
Here's a genuine solution for our economic woes: we need to let our American farmers grow marijuana, and the states to sell it through government-controlled stores. Last I checked, our number one trade deficit was the amount of cash we send to foreign countries for drugs. Let's face this thing, legalize it, CONTROL it, (that being the operative word here), and earn taxes from it. It'll cost people less and the government will rake it in. And please, no pontification, your holinesses. The same people who smoke it now will be the ones who smoke it in this scenario, and they'll be the ones who bail us out of this mess.

Doesn't this rant Sessions made make you sick?

Listen here, when they were in power, they made sure the Dems didn't have a chance to input into the forming of bills until it was a done deal. Now the shoe is on the foot and their bitching? Ain't so nice when you get done like you did others.

What really, really, bothers me about all this, is that the country isn't coming first. There is a lot of lip service to that but no real effort being put forth to do right by our politicians for years.

Why is our country's infrastructure in such terrible shape? No one had time to pay attention to it because they were all about playing politics. Fiddling why the country is burning.

I'm so sick of both sides playing this game but none of them taking care of business.

The Reps have no reason to bitch at all. Look at our national debt. It didn't get that high because of balanced books and being a good shepard of the public money and both parties are involved up to their beady eyeballs.

Once again, I hear the drum beat calling louder than the rhetoric for the need to throw yet more out of office. I'm sick of politicians that won't take care of the country they swore to uphold and protect because they are all busy playing games and drawing movable lines in the sand.

I hate to say it but we have the same political situation that occurred just before the great depression in power. You are not hearing about the truth from the government that things are worse than they are portraying. Because the yardstick was changed to make unemployed people look like it is less than it is, the present sounds really good to look at the claimed number. Truth of it is, the estimate of the true amount of unemployed is near double if not more than what is claimed.

Why has it taken a year to hear the word recession? It's been going on that long yet not a peep been really said about it.

I can tell you one thing. I am not happy with what passes as a politician today and what is getting done for our country. I'm tired of seeing corporations and businesses buy the laws yet there is no real consideration for what is good for it's citizens.

This whole mess is a disaster. One that was brought on by deregulation fanatics doing their dangest to allow more would be thieves to get a cut at the public's expense.

All the Democrats complain about how the Bush years have put this economy in the tank. Pres. Bush raised the national debt over 6 trillion dollars in eight years. Your new president and democratic congress want to add 5 to 6 trillion to the debt in just 6 months (stimulus and the bad bank program). If they are allowed to add this much to the debt in 6 months how much will they add in 4 years? Ms. Pelosi has already stated that there may be a need for yet another stimulus package before the year ends. Will that be another trillion dollars passed on to our great grandchildren? Lets face it we have to live within our means and so should the government. If you truly believe that this package will help the economy you are as ignorant as the democrats you elected.

Perhaps the Republican Party should accept the legal election for once and stop trying to emulate the politics of Nazi Germany. If they do not however - that is, if they do not accept the rule of law, then they should be treated as criminals and put in prison. They should be dressed in French Maid's Outfits and made to clean toilets on their knees for the rest of their lives. Or, is that cruel and unusual?

Just asking:

Did the Taliban Republicans ever go to the President and the Dems to offer help writing the Stimulus bill? Hell no.

bill darbyshire | February 5, 2009 5:40 PM

This is the ignorance of the socialist left ( they don't know this). Obama invited the Republicans to the WH and said they would have input in the bill. Pelosi and the rest of the marxists did not allow this. How friggin dumb are you? Today Harry Reid (that's the guy who runs the senate) said that his party (that's the democrats) have enough votes to pass this pathetic bill. Soooo.... What's the problem?
Could it be that the Democrats are not about to take responsibility for the failure of this bill to turn the economy around? If not this, than is Mr. Reid a liar?

Everyday on the news I see the lines and lines of people standing out side of unemployment offices around the country, hoping against hope for assistance and getting a job. Then I see on the news Republicans gripping and complaining about this stimulus bill, complaining about the US goverment trying to tell coporations how to spend the money they have bailed them out with. I'm sick of all of it! There is not a day that I dont drive to work that I dont wonder if maybe this will be the last day I will have to drive to work because the company I work for has already started laying people off. These Republicans that are stopping this stimulus from happening need to open their eyes and see that honest, hard working Americans are being driven into poverty because they feel like they have something to prove because they lost the Presidential election. I guess their going to show Obama, huh? Yeah they are going to show him by making sure this thing fails and we are all out of work, but hey they only care about the heads of companies and their rich cronies anyway. Republicans run around all the time implying that Dems arent patriotic but I think this is just about as unpatriotic as you can get. Why I was not a big fan of George Jr. I still not want to see him fail (even though ultimitley he did, miserably) because that meant we failed as a nation. We should all hope that Obama succeeds especially with this stimulus package, because we will all succeed.

The Republican party should learn how to accept defeat gracefully. They are acting like sore losers, and in doing so, are acting in ways which make them look bad, and ultimately, could get them in trouble. If the shoe were on the other foot, this Sessions person would be wiretapped and watched by Homeland Security, which I'm not so sure would not be a good idea. They are conducting political guerrilla warfare, at their own admission, and should perhaps be treated as insurgents.
Insanity seems to have taken hold of the Republican party....Perhaps psychiatric treatment should be ordered for them, until they can get hold of themselves.

I am simply in disbelief "Rep.Pete Sessions" at your comment about our President Barack Obama. Your comments were out of line. Quote "CNN" your comments about a Taliban or referring to that gesture. I think you need to apologize about your thoughtless remarks to our Commander and Chief. Barack Obama.

MORNONS ON THE LEFT....BEWARE!
Can you not handle the fact that what the left wing wackos have done for many years is feed you the garbage they WANT you to repeat. I have yet to find any lib who can hold a conversation more than five minutes with any substance.
President Obama does NOT have the solutions and I do hope that his policies, the liberal ones that is, fail completly.
This stimulus package will not correct the market but it will endanger our financial systems for years.
It's been 8 years of whinning and crying from libs on President Bush on everything he did.
I thinks it's great that wacko Obama is going far left, the sooner he destroys his party the better off our country will be.
This is going to be a fun four years for us conservatives watching the house of losers fall.

I love hard-liner GOP loyalists like Lou.

"I have yet to find any lib who can hold a conversation more than five minutes with any substance."

Yeah, I'm sure you've been out there searching high and low for liberals with whom to engage in intelligent conversation. I can tell because you start your end of the discussion with the phrase "MORONS ON THE LEFT." And why is it that folks who use terms like "morons" and "losers" and "garbage" and "wacko" when describing the other side generally have such poor writing skills? I mean: "whinning and crying" and "fail completly"?

I have yet to hear a single Republican call on Sessions even to explain himself, let alone apologize for his evident admiration of the Taliban. If a Democrat had made such a statement, folks like Lou would be off the wall condemning him as "wacko" and "garbage" and such.

"This is going to be a fun four years for us conservatives watching the house of losers fall." By "house of losers" I take it you mean the United States of America. Spoken like a true Taliban.

Me, I'm hoping President Obama succeeds in bringing prosperity back home and some measure of peace to the world, and that four years from now we will see this nation stronger, richer, more just and more secure than it is today. I'm especially hoping he can help the millions upon millions of Americans dealing with this ever worsening depression.

But that's just me. Obviously folks like Lou have a different agenda.

Sessions is frustrated and no matter what he meant, his remark provided fuel for those that want to disagree or find contention. I dislike it when a person does not use logic and truth to give me the information I need to make wise decisions. You should too.

The bill is going to pass, but it is only a part of the plan to dismantle what made this country vigorous. Obama and Bush needed some help. Don’t forget, when a people are made helpless, you can get away with anything.
Ohio

"...but it is only part of the plan to dismantle what made this country vigorous."

I see. It isn't that President Obama and his supporters actually want what's best for this country, and are responding in a time of crisis with that they believe and hope will work to ease the pain of millions of American workers. Oh no, according to critics like Lou and Ohio, it's all part of a "plan" -- a conspiracy if you will -- to destroy America. No doubt they have some documentation for the existence of this dastardly plan.

"Don't forget, when a people are made helpless, you can get away with anything."

Americans aren't "helpless." They're frustrated, angry, disgusted. They're also deeply troubled, and millions of them are looking for government to provide some much needed assistance until they can get back on their own two feet. It's called a "social contract." It's part of what distinguishes a civilized society from barbarism. Besides which, nothing in the President's plan will make Americans "helpless." To the contrary, if enacted as intended it will update our infrastructure, strengthen our economy, and restore this nation's competitive edge.

We've tried the Republican "government is the problem" "you're all on your own" style of leadership. It's brought us an economic disaster the likes of which we haven't seen since the last time Republicans had free reign to do whatever they wanted, that is, from March 1921 to March 1933.

"Sessions is frustrated and no matter what he meant..." Now, imagine if a Democrat had expressed his appreciation of the political skills of the Taliban. Somehow I doubt Republicans would be saying, as you seem to be, "Hey, he's frustrated, cut the man some slack." As I said yesterday, I've yet to hear a single Republican leader express one iota of concern about what Sessions said or meant. That silence speaks volumes.

On the other hand, the latest reports seem to indicate there are at least two or three Republicans left who understand that success for President Obama means success for us all, and that a campaign of active sabotage, an "insurgency" if you will, is not in the best interests of this nation.

"Country first," remember?

Good morning, Mr. Sessions -

I am American by birth, value freedom more than you'll ever know, am fiercely independent (by virtue and generally politically). I have chosen to align myself with Democrats & the American people because of people like you and those who think like you do.

I thought it would help to speak a language you seem to understand: Нравится вам или нет, но история на нашей стороне. Мы вас закопаем.

It means "We will bury you." Watch us, you f u c k i n g terrorist.

The GOP doesn't care about America. It's an organization geared solely to regaining control of the US government and continuing to force its pseudo-Christian, anti-Democratic, fascist agenda down the throats of those it deems unworthy of self-determination -- read anyone not white, rich and male here. And if that takes behaving like a terrorist organization, it will. Period. These people have sworn allegiance to one idea and one idea only -- "Me, me, and only me and screw you if you don't like it."

Henceforth, the response to any Republican attacks about anything should be, "We don't negotiate with terrorists."

Written above: "Iran doesn't have to do a damned thing to us except sit and wait while we tear each other apart from the inside out. And I wonder why we call these goons "leaders."

-- honestly, if you think about MILLIONS of people who've lost their homes and jobs, then watch as others get $15k to buy their home at 60% of CURRENT value (likely 50% of what their failed mortgage was)...

People w/out homes and jobs are very moble and it won't surprise me if we do see "insurgency" in the US. But it won't be the stupid (still w/a job) politicians. It will be the newly homeless/jobless Americans who've been pushed to far. While the steel mill workers may have been content to go sit it out at the local bar back in 1981, the displaced, highly educated will eventually grow tired of trying to come up with a "business" to support themselves and grow angry at having everything P***sed away by the political process.

A million homes taken so far, likely 1.5 million or more will be taken by end of year. Reaching 2 million jobless and growing. All of them watching BILLIONS given to the very banks that started the mess and tax breaks to the weatlhy.

You do the math. The Republicans need to get a grip and be VERY careful before they talk about "insurgency" because they're not very likely to be in control of it if it ever does start. They and their corporate buddies just might find themselves the target of such activities and not from "nice" political types.

"Frustrated by a lack of bipartisan outreach from House Democratic leaders,"

Note how this phrase is introduced as fact, rather than what it is: Rep. Session's partisan spin.

Clearly, the GOP's sympathizers at the National Journal also understand the ground rules of insurgency.

Of course, if the Republicans want to define themselves as the Taliban, I personally would be more thann happy to give them what the Army is giving the REAL Taliban in Afghanistan: A freaking napalm strike.

Sessions is absolutely correct - the GOP is the American Taliban - moral police, inflammatory rhetoric without regard for consequences, subversive activities in direct opposition to the desire of the people, obstruction of democratically elected officials and laws, refusal to abide by the Law of the Land (US Constitution), etc. . .

I believe this is the first time in American history that the United States is going to attempt to SPEND their way out of debt.

Hopefully those of us who still believe that hard work should be rewarded with financial and personal success will survive this.
