John McCain has been bombarding tweeple everywhere with a rolling, 140-character Mac attack on the omnibus spending bill currently before Congress. McCain is opposed to the thousands of earmarks found in the bill and has been twittering them one at a time. A sampling of McCain's least favorite earmarks:
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ): "#9. $143,000 to teach art energy - Art can produce energy? If so, then investing in the arts may lead to energy independence" - 3/2, 11:50 AM
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ): "#4. $143,000 for Nevada Humanities to develop and expand an online encyclopedia - Anyone heard of Wikipedia?" - 3/2, 3:57 PM
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ): "#9. $209,000 to improve blueberry production and efficiency in GA" - 3/3, 11:20 AM
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ): "taking a break for policy lunch" - 3/3, 1:11 PM

Live From Claire's Brain
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO): "Voted yes on McCain amendment. Awkward when I disagree with party leadership but I really think McCain is right on this one." - 3/3, 12:37 PM

Someone needs to take McCain's twitter account away from him. He is just broadcasting his ignorance to the entire nation.
All he has to do is send an email (if he knows how) to the Library of Congress across the street. They can explain to him that every discipline has specialized encyclopedias. Wikipedia is great for a generic encyclopedia, but a Humanities encyclopedia would be more specialized, specific and tailored to literature, languages, linguistics, philosophy, theology, art, etc.
I don't know what art energy is, I do know that there are other forms of energy than fossil fuels. Energy has more meanings than just illuminating a light bulb.
God, how could this person have gotten over 40% of Americans to think he could possibly handle the White House???
Is this a joke? The fact that he SUSPENDED his campaign to run back to Washington to push through the first stimulus package that gave billions to bankers with no strings attached. Nothing that said that they had to put the money back into the economy, so what did they do? They responded by handing out bonuses to execs and laying off everybody else. McCain supported THAT, but here he is going crazy over two hundred thousand dollars to improve the efficiency of a large Cash crop in Ga? Hey, at least the $200,000 to GA dollars will be paid for by increased production of the crop, we are NEVER going to see the hundreds of billions he couldn't wait to pass out to his friends and donors. This is so hypocritical of him but I suppose I shouldn't expect better out of a typical politician.
what a maroon!
No matter McCain's past actions, it's great to see these people get called out on the ridiculous things they are spending money on.
Beaver management....art energy...ridiculous.
Keep them coming!
Because most politicians aren't saying anything and are just buying votes!
All for fiscal conservatism... but before we deride these earmarks as silly and expose the limits of our own knowledge, let's take a closer gander:
Beaver management is a wildlife initiative to control the explosion of beaver populations in areas that have had their predator populations decimated by human beings. Also - a great deal of commerce in this country depends on clear waterways that lead to the mississippi. Is making sure the entire middle of the country doens't grind to a halt because of a beaver dam worth 650k?
I would say yes.
Take away his Twitter account? Please. McCain's porkiest lists on Twitter is the best thing to happen to the Internets since Gore!
