Don't Let The Door Hit You ...

RNC Chair Michael Steele says Sen. Arlen Specter's decision is a purely political move.

"Some in the Republican Party are happy about this. I am not. Let's be honest-Senator Specter didn't leave the GOP based on principles of any kind. He left to further his personal political interests because he knew that he was going to lose a Republican primary due to his left-wing voting record. Republicans look forward to beating Sen. Specter in 2010, assuming the Democrats don't do it first."

Not a bad statement. At least Steele didn't do one of those 'democrat sounding' statements and get all weeping about this.

Specter will now have to stab the GOP in the front after a career of stabbing us in the back.

My thoughts precisely when I got the news alert on my cell phone. "Don't let the door hit you..."

He will not be missed.

Look forward to beating him? I think I just peed my pants laughing.

Toomey is a joke. The GOP should feel lucky that they're going to get 6 more years of Specter instead of any other liberal who also would have handily whooped the pants off of that far Right looney.

Anytime anyone says, "Let's be honest" it's a setup. The Republican Party just got that much more irrelevant, and Steele is about to lose his job.

Be careful what you wish for Steele. Arlen was certainly not the most conservative Senator in the caucus but his voting record was anything but "left-wing." If I had served my party and state for three decades only to be left hung out to dry because I didn't fall lockstep with what some hackjob chairman told me to do I'd be jumping ship too. Now, any chance the GOP had at holding the state is gone. This is what you get when you cast aside loyal, moderate members of your caucus - you become a permanent minority party.

"Anytime anyone says, "Let's be honest" it's a setup."

Really? Can we apply that standard to Obama?
